WELP, not a ringing endorsement. CW channel? Who the hell is that? Streaming options? I guess we will see but this doesn't change my mind at all about the long term viability of this tour.
CW Network is the bastard stepson of what used to be the UPN and WB networks.
I wonder if they'll also get preempted for endless loops of MJ Frog cartoons like Xavier-Wisconsin back in the day.
Today? Shit changes so often. Used to be cable and satellite stuff. Now the streaming wars are intense. Obviously viewers on the hook with these wonderful contract negotiations.
All that liv has done imo is make rich guys, richer and cause my interest in watching golf, outside of the majors, to dwindle. I used to watch almost every week, but I don’t think I could tell you the last time I paid attention to a non major event.
Imo this fracture has been really bad for the sport overall.
Yeah, not a great analogy. LIV isn't all bad. They will force the PGA Tour to increase purses and change the way they do business. Maybe even alter the way tourneys are run. But, in the end money usually does win. I just dont see what the end game is for LIV? Clearly they are incredibly upside down on their investment and will be for years. What more can they be in this for is my question.
Sociopolitical motives. That's probably the main reason they are doing this. They don't give a F about golf, the same way they don't give an F about Formula 1 and all the money they have dropped there.
Speaking of Autoracing, Open Wheel Racing used to be a huge deal here in the US, and then the split happened, and its never recovered. Golf I think is way more popular than that used to be, but what I am getting at is this kind of split is bad for the sport as a whole. Yeah, some guys are going to get even more rich, but there's nothing good about that for the game of golf or the casual fan.
Welcome to professional sports where greed is a lifestyle. Some more than others.
PGA Tour golfers who win a Tournament in a season get paid less than backup 2nd basemen in MLB, PLUS, they have to pay their caddy, and both have agents getting a percentage. PGA Tour players make less than almost all other high profile successful “entertainers” - and rather than having a season with 3-5 months off, they have to work all 12.
The PGA Tour takes in huge money from full year TV, sponsorships and event ticket sales then “donates” a fraction to Charity to give itself cover while screwing the players that make it popular.
Nice grift. It’s long past time to level the field.
Screw the Saudi’s, screw LIV golf and screw all the greedy, soulless golfers (including Kokrak) who have joined ranks with those bastards. I stand with 9/11 families.

“Screw your own?”
Pretty sure the guys still on the PGA Tour are happy with the extra cash that they are FINALLY getting paid because of Competition in the game?
And I think that some of the sponsors on the PGA Tour events are pretty rich companies- some of them OIL COMPANIES? (Shell Houston Open)
And the Valero Texas Open.
Come on guys, hopefully you understand the difference between Saudi oil (which is state owned) compared to US based company with US based employee's. I'm no expert and reserve the right to understand better.........but this is why so many people have issue with LIV. Their govt denies basic human rights, erases free speech and does all sorts of horrible things.
Sounds a bit like Canada.
When I hear Canada I think “attic”.
It’s Kathleen Madigan’s fault. Funny bit.
Ok. Everybody boycott the Canadian Open in freedom restrictive Canadastan!!!!
By the way. The National Basketball Association bends over backwards to kow tow to CHINA!!
I don’t see Bleed pontificating on THAT professional relationship.
Pros are in it for money, wherever it comes from. That’s just fact.
Good for golf and players wanting to make guaranteed money are two different things. Just look at all the changes the PGA tour has made since Liv started. They where a true monopoly taking advantage of players for years (unless you where at top 10 player). We fans should be pissed
You have to be kidding. The PGA Tour has been the best golf tour on the planet for decades. The best Euro players came here bc that tour was inferior to the PGA. Best weather, courses, prize money etc. Fans being pissed? Not a single one. Norman tried for years to develop a competing tour. He finally found a soulless regime to bankroll him. True, the PGA has made some changes to counter LIV. They had to. Again, we will see if its good for golf in the long run. Right now, you have a product (professional tour golf) that has been spilt/fractured and that isn't good for the product. I want to see the best players competing against each other as much as possible.
Just because they where the best doesn’t meant jackshit. You really think these guys making 500k-1m are getting paid there worth? Look at all the other sports and guaranteed money. Since liv came along the PGA is now offering guaranteed money to all players. Would they have done that if Liv never came around? Highly doubtful, that was Mickileson’s argument for years. He has plenty of money but thought most players werent making their worth. So yes they where the best tour to watch but does that mean anything to the players who want to make more money?
And I don’t love it as well, haven’t watched a PGA tournament (minus the majors) since this all went down. I’ll watch some liv due to Jason but I’ll never judge an athlete on how to make money. Look at Ronaldo, he would have been silly not to take 75m a year from the saudis.
I don't begrudge the LIV guys for getting paid but I think your math is a little off. If you are making between 500k and 1m, you're most likely not on the PGA tour. In 2022 the 100th player on the PGA tour made 1.2 million dollars and that's before any endorsement/marketing money and earnings on any other tour. That golfer is Stephan Jaegger. I'm not sure there's an argument out there that Stephan Jaegger is worth exponentially more to the PGA tour than what he made last year.
How many millions/billions have guys made off endorsements via the PGA Tour platform? A platform that guys like Nicklaus, Palmer, Watson and many others before even them helped create and build? Of course those same players who have reaped the rewards have also helped sustain the value of the product and the PGA Tour. This enables them to negotiate huge TV and sponsorship deals. I see a product that's grown, purses have grown, players bank accounts have grown and very few negatives from my perspective. Of course there will always be those who want more.........
Of course players do well or they wouldn’t be doing it. But the argument again is should they be making guaranteed money like other sports. If someone comes along and asks if I want to grind it out and make 3 million a year or 30m upfront and probably another 3m during the year I’m probably going to take the upfront money all day. That’s why golfers like Rahm, Cantlay and Xander are keeping the door open. At some point in their careers they may want that guaranteed 50-100m.
And NONE OF THIS would have happened without a viable competitor to the PGA Tour.
The players would have kept getting used and screwed. The only alternative to force change would have been a players Union like MLB developed years ago, but that model doesn’t work in an individual contractor sport.
Golfers have to pay for everything!!!! Travel/Lodging/food/Caddy/Coaching. All those things are paid for in major sports throughout the world. Players outside the top 50ish aren't taking home the money you think they are.
