Don't tell Boris.
Got my COVID vaccine today, so far so good, arm feels good, no flu like symptoms.
A big THANK YOU to all in the medical field for all that you do! And the updates you provide on XH. Hope all goes well D-WEST & PO-Z!
Well, pretty sure my wife and I now have it. We both got tested just waiting for results but we both have the symptoms. My wife owns her own business and works in people's homes so it was bound to happen at some point. #f2020
Our whole family went through it in the last 6 weeks. Assuming you're pretty young and healthy, not a big deal but a pretty weird feeling. The thing that worked best for me was making sure to continue staying active/exercising. We went on long walks almost every day, and I always felt better/most normal afterwards.
Best wishes xville, hope all goes well. From what I've gathered, most have mild symptoms and recover quickly. My father compared it to a terrible cold/flu, still has some lingering effects, but is doing well. I think we all (probably) can agree on this... late 2021 can't come soon enough.
Stay safe and healthy fellow Xmen!
Thanks guys. Right now, it feels like a bad flu, and luckily my wife doesn't feel as bad as I do right now, so she is able to take care of the kids for the most part.
What's weird is the testing...we have hung out with a pod since this started and there are 7 of us plus kids. We all hung out this past weekend so we are assuming all of us are positive and acting accordingly but we all have gotten tested...only 1 of us has tested positive out of the 3 of us that have gotten our results back...maybe it is too early in the process for those that tested negative
Yes it is. Someone I work with has had it twice in his home. Back in the summer, one of his twin daughters tested positive. They quarantined her to her bedroom and had her use a separate bathroom. The rest of the family got tested and were all negative and never developed any symptoms.
He then caught COVID mid November. He woke up one morning with no sense of taste or smell and tested positive. The previous night, a number of us from work, including him, went out for drinks. There were 5 of us sitting at a small table with him. No one was wearing a mask while at the table. We all got tested and were all negative. Very weird virus.

My son had it, and none of the rest of us caught it. Three weeks later, the other 4 of us all got it at pretty much the exact same time. My poor son was excluded when he got it originally as we quarantined him in his room, and then he was excluded the second time when we were all home with Covid and he was back in school.
Household Transmission of SARS-CoV-2
A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
Not sure if this has been posted in the thread yet or not but it is a meta-analysis of household transmission. It reviewed and collected data from 54 studies that looked at secondary attack rates in households, and estimated overall secondary infection rate to be 16.6%. The rates varied quite a bit as you may expect, as everything with this virus does. I think living quarters and culture play a large role in transmission. Also as noted in the study was transmission rates from children to adult and vice versa.
Interesting stuff, we assume everyone in the house is going to get it if someone is sick, and the secondary transmission rate is much much higher than similar viruses and illnesses. However 16.6% is probably lower than most people would guess.
On 12/20/19 we drove 9 hours to Florida with a family friend who coughed for 9 straight hours. She had just returned from working in NYC. One year ago today, on Christmas, my wife had to drive the whole way back because I was sick as a dog (in the backseat), coughing so hard I felt like my torso had been beaten with a bat.
I thought it was too early to be the nasty Covid, but my wife’s doctor swears it was here as early as late November last year. It sure looked like a duck, sounded like a duck and walked like a duck! I coughed into February! My wife got it from me, but not nearly as bad. Someone mentioned blood type A gets it the worst, and O is often more mild. Don’t know if there’s anything to that, but I’m A+ and she’s O-.
Odd part was I developed this rash that moved around. I was too sick to care about the rash. When I started feeling better I googled it and found a rash was present in roughly 20% of cases.
Weird virus indeed!
Interested to hear if anyone here has been vaxxed yet and what the experience is like? My wife get hers tomorrow.
I had the Moderna vaccine dose 1 last week. I didn’t notice any symptoms other than a very mild headache for an hour later that day which may or may not have been related. Also all coworkers except one that got it have not had any symptoms. The coworker that did had a low grade temp increase that night, which is not uncommon and signifies a good immune response.
We are rapidly approaching 50% of the population having Covid this year (we will be there next week):

How in the hell can anyone say with a straight face that masks or lockdowns work? Quit fooling yourselves!! Even the CDC now admits that masks don't work:
"Individual who has had close contact (within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more)
* Person with COVID-19 who has symptoms (in the period from 2 days before symptom onset until they meet criteria for discontinuing home isolation; can be laboratory-confirmed or a clinically compatible illness)
* Person who has tested positive for COVID-19 (laboratory confirmed) but has not had any symptoms (in the 2 days before the date of specimen collection until they meet criteria for discontinuing home isolation).
Note: This is irrespective of whether the person with COVID-19 or the contact was wearing a mask or whether the contact was wearing respiratory personal protective equipment (PPE)"

Regardless of what the CDC is saying right now, the proof is in the pudding - with roughly 47% of the population having Covid, it's obvious that masks don't work!
I agree with your point - it’s become that it’s very clear humans cannot stop a virus, but you may have looked at the wrong number. It shows just over 19M cases to-date.
MID - multiply the 19M reported cases by 8 (per the CDC asymptomatic and unreported estimate study: https://www.npr.org/sections/coronav...ng-100-million) to get the roughly 152M total cases for the U.S. currently.
I ask for your prayers please. My 92-year old grandfather in-law has COVID-19. There was an outbreak at the nursing home he’s been locked in since March.
Before March we used to pick him up every Sunday to watch football, baseball, Xavier. He was sharp as a tack. Once the positive test came back they moved him from the room he’s been in for 2 years to a “COVID room”. Apparently he’s doing OK with the virus, but the unfamiliar room and staff has made him very confused and he’s fallen into dementia. This has me very sad and angry. There has to be a better way.
MID - so sorry to hear this. FYI and FWIW, I just saw this: https://www.naturalnews.com/2020-12-...us-deaths.html I've read similar studies/info from other sources as well, that say that Vitamins D and C, and Zinc are key for treating Covid and other flu viruses. I credit Emergen-C for helping me and my wife when we contracted Covid back in Sept. If it doesn't help, at least it doesn't hurt.
Prayers sent. I’m glad he’s doing well with the virus, and pray the mental aspect is temporary as he battles new surroundings and the understandable fear.
My 93 year old mother is in a retirement facility and the fear is overwhelming her. They just had the first positive test in the building and that really ramped things up even more. At 93 you expect them to be slipping a little, but the rate of decline is getting more precipitous. I sure wish I knew what the better way is, because this sucks!
Good luck with your grandfather in-law!
Thanks Lou. It’s most frustrating that he’s supposed to be safe and is sacrificing life for that safety. He’s a tough and generally healthy SOB so I think he’ll beat Covid, but to hear him making little sense on the phone today is heartbreaking. Also thanks for the advice - my family has been taking C and D during the winter for years, and I take Emergen-C when I travel for work - we have remained mostly healthy.
