That doesn't look good.
I wonder how they got it down to around 100/day in the summer. And they have 30% more people than we do.
We've never been below 500/day running average since March and now are near 1000.
This could be a really tough winter.

Our 7 day average through yesterday is 890. The EU has about 100 million more people than the US.
Hopefully we stay more or less level on this through the coming months. If that happens, it might be that we're better off doing that than having steep shocks like Europe. But who the hell knows with this thing.
I think college basketball this season is a pipedream.
We're over 100k new cases again today.
Our school district has found that even when community spread rises, there's zero or virtually zero spread at school. So as community spread increases, the kids (and faculty/staff) are likely safer when school is in session (assuming good masking/distancing/hygiene protocols).
My kids have been in school since august, yes there have been a few covid cases...you quarantine the sick, and the ones who had direct contact, and move on.
My BIL is sending his college age daughter to France for a semester (French major of some sort). I’m shocked. He’s a doctor, and his wife is a doctor. Sadly, the wife has stage 4 cancer, so part of it is they are afraid to have people around, coming and going after being exposed to who knows what. What might be fine for the daughter might kill the wife.
I don’t like to judge unless it’s egregiously bad behavior. I don’t know what to make of this, but just praying for the best for everyone.
115k cases. We did it! We beat our record.
As for sending the kid to France, I'm not sure what difference it makes. We have Covid here, and they have Covid there. If you're going to go through a pandemic, I guess you may as well go through it in France.
One thing to consider in trying to figure out spikes in cases and incidence is the mutations this virus has had. It’s been some time since mutation analysis has been released but the virus has mutated several times that results in increased transmissibility. Perhaps the virus is more transmissible but less deadly? And certainly our treatments are better. Early on we reserved remdesivir for the sickest of the sick. If their O2 sats dropped we freaked out and treated it like typical ARDS. Currently, we can use remdesivir in pretty much anyone hospitalized, and the threshold for using a vent is greater. This should continue to decrease mortality.
In Ohio the trend is still poor though, and it is getting dicey in some regions that don’t have the greatest access to healthcare. Mortality rate still varies too widely by geographic region.
Also....If choosing between the US and France, I would have a tough time choosing France.
France is certainly a mess, but for a college aged kid (assuming she is generally healthy)....meh.
This Covid is hammering the job market. Still 11 million out of work. I hope it continues to trend up.

They have seen much of the world going to Irish dancing competitions. (This Irish guy didn’t even know there was such a thing!) They are both doctors, common sense is not a strong point. A French degree of some sort is right up their alley. Her older sister is in law school at Vanderbilt, but she’s basically the voice of reason for the entire family.
I honestly didn't know traveling abroad was available.
We have had a trip planned for almost a year. A few days in Italy, then a Windstar cruise (only about 300 passengers) basically from Rome (or the nearby port I can’t spell) to Barcelona. It is NEXT October, and I’m still not sure if it happens.
We are actually surprised the college is allowing this trip.

CDC Data Suggest Lockdowns Could Kill As Many People As COVID
Where have I heard this before?
So................how many hours was it past the election results were announced was it that we heard we had a vaccine that appears to be 90% effective?
Oh, apparently there is some kind of treatment too?
Curious shit there.
My kids' school just announced that they were closing and moving to all virtual due to significant community spread among school age children. I thought this was supposed to go away when Biden got elected!!!
These vaccines trials have been ongoing for months and it has been known for months that the first ones would start coming out by the end of the year. It's still not going to be until the spring or summer (or later) until there is a large enough supply for the general public.
But yes of course everything is a plot against the republicans by the liberal media, I mean the liberal pharmaceutical companies.
I never said Covid was fake, so you can check yourself right there. I did say it was blown up by the media, and continue to believe so.
The rest of my statement that you quoted is a little tongue in cheek. I just find the timing of the announcement of the vaccine to be quite coincidental.
I think they are also concerned about politicization of the vaccine leading to people not wanting to take it, so they are probably taking significant steps to appear as apolitical as possible. This is doubly true in an environment in which many people were concerned about the Trump administration rushing a vaccine through for political expediency.
I already know several people (all Trump supporters, although that may be a coincidence) that say that they are not taking the vaccine.
Talked to a co-worker who returned from a couple year assignment in China in October. Landed in Detroit and was shocked to see everyone masked up. Apparently China isn't masking anymore.

I know quite a bit of people Liberal, Republicans, Libertarians, etc. that all said they aren't taking the vaccine either, just because it feels rushed due to political pressure, which I think is completely fair. I'm sure a lot of people will stay away, but the Pfizer news is interesting, I definitely am about to read up on it and see what it entails.
The most painful talk I have to give is the vaccines don't cause autism, talk.. people who are curious, who don't know what to believe because of all the stuff in the media? I love talking to them, I love someone who is genuinely curious and wants to find out more about the subject matter, but holy shit the ones that completely dismiss any evidence you put forth against it and just start going off the walls are something else...

I would be interested in your perspective as to whether the vaccine fears are justified - i.e. is there anything used in the vaccine that would potentially cause long term issues?
My general thinking is that as long as it goes through a normal FDA approval process I would probably take the vaccine. It may not be entirely risk free, but getting COVID isn't risk free either.
Well, I have a COVID test scheduled for tomorrow morning. A number of us from work went out for drinks Monday night with someone who was in from out of town. The next morning, the person I was sitting next to lost his sense it taste and smell. He went to get tested and came back positive, so those of us sitting close to him are under house arrest until we get a negative test result. Yippee. [emoji2357]

Obviously I’ll let him answer the question you proposed, but wanted to give you a little background on the vaccine.
The Pfizer (and Moderna) used something we haven’t utilized before in genetic technology. It’s called synthetic messenger RNA and ironically it’s been around for 3 decades. Basically mRNA uses genetic material to cause the body to create a protein from the virus. Then, the immune system recognizes the virus and learns to attack.
With that said, we won’t know the scope of side effects until the third week of November. This will be when half of the patients in their study have been observed for any safety issues for at least two months following their second dose. I’m keeping my fingers crossed and committed to getting the vaccination at this point.
