Just a note: had fish and chips at Cock and Bull in Hyde Park last night. Went with two English bitters to make the experience authentic (well as authentic as it can be with country and western music blaring). Fullers and Boddingtons. Of the two i'll that the Fullers please

Had a couple of really good beers on vacation last week I thought I'd share. I have no idea if they are available for sale in Ohio as I've never seen them before last week. One was brewed in Utah and the other in Colorado....so I wouldn't know why they wouldn't be available in Ohio but would be available in North Carolina.
Anyhoo, the first beer was Modus Hoperandi from Ska Brewing Company in Durango, Colorado. A very good IPA that comes in cans. Hoppy but a good clean finish. Affordable too at around $8.99 for a six pack. ABV 6.8%.
The other was Hop Notch IPA from Uinta Brewing Company in Salt Lake City, Utah. Very similar to west coast IPA's like Green Flash. Good hop and malt balance with a lemony/citrus after taste. Again, good bargain at $8.99 for a six pack of bottles. Especially at a whopping 7.3% ABV.
If you are a hophead and can get your hands on either of fine IPA's, you won't be disappointed.

These might have limited availability but worth finding.
Osiris - Sun King in Indy. Great IPA.
Palmetto - only in Charleston, SC. Very good Amber.
I have seen Modus Hoperandi around. I remember the name and thinking it was clever. Can't say if it was at retail or on tap at a tasting.
I tried the Horny Goat Hopped Up and Horny IPA. To quote Peter Griffin, I found it shallow and pedantic. Price point was right, but the SN Torpedo is a much better beer for the buck.

Besides the previously mentioned "light" Guinness, it is just plain weird to see Bud and Coors on tap in pubs, and prominent at the Galway Races, fercryinoutloud. I think the younger drinkers want to get away from their grandfather's beer, but come on.
Craft breweries were stronger in Belfast than in Dublin. I had some nice local brew in Kilkenny, which still has the village feel despite becoming quite a holiday mecca. I did not get into Galway's "Latin Quarter"(another WTF), where what apparently passes for Irish "knees up" debauchery proceeds after the races. But there were enough bare long legs and high heels to turn even an older gent's head. at the track. The only downside was the migration of the silly feather "fascintors" from Jolly Old. Please, take your hat OFF.
