Yeah they are tipping off as I type this....weird as hell.

Has the Pac-12 canceled yet? I am sure the Begas powers that be are begging them to not cancel.
Yeah, so it does transmit basically exactly the same as the seasonal flu, they're both respiratory transmitted viruses. There's also a company (again I didn't follow up) that has a vaccine that covers 19 or 20 different strains of the seasonal flu, not sure what their progress is. The thing is Coronavirus isn't as common as the seasonal flu, so we kind of already have an immune response built up to the seasonal flu, but not really Coronavirus. That's also part of the problem, plus there's much more research done on Influenza than on Coronavirus. So it's the same, but different if that makes sense.
Ultimately, pandemics have been something that has happened numerous times throughout history, and there's bound to be another pandemic again. I think this one has been worse due to social media having such a prevalence, and a vast spreading of misinformation going on. If we look at what happened in the past, this will happen, hopefully anti-vax people realize how dumb it is not to vaccinate their children, vaccinate them, and basically we'll forget about it until the next pandemic breaks out. These things are a ticking time bomb, and though you can take steps to adequately prepare for it, we're never going to be 100% in control of it.
So I was in the camp of canceling sporting events, etc. is a gross over-reaction. This article changed my mind:
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/health/2020/03/11/coronavirus-flattening-curve-quarantine-stop-spread/5021564002/
I had not considered the capacity of our health care system.
Canceling sucks, but it sucks less than having to choose who lives and dies.
If this thing had been called the corona flu (instead of VIRUS), would we all be in this position?
The Big East just cancelled the Tournament..at halftime of the St Johns/ Creighton game!
Would the NCAA still try to put on March Madness with current designated conference winners(per the conferences) and hold it at smaller venues with no fans, and still make their money?
This unfortunately is not helpful:

The latest news out of the White House is incomprehensibly dire. Politico is reporting that Donald Trump is "reluctant" to give the COVID-19 pandemic an emergency designation, which would provide emergency funding to states and allow a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) response in affected areas, because Trump believes calling it an "emergency" would go against his prior insistence that the coronavirus outbreak was no worse than the yearly flu.
He doesn't want to declare the emergency, said a "Republican who speaks to Trump," because it "contradicts his message." Worse, still, is this news: The coronavirus task force now led by Vice President Mike Pence will be holding off on its own recommendation on whether to declare a national emergency. The reason? They’re waiting on Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner.
According to a person "familiar" with the situation, the task force "will not give Trump its final verdict until Jared Kushner, the president’s senior adviser and husband to his daughter Ivanka, finishes his research and comes to a conclusion himself," Politico reports.
So the declaration of emergency allowing the response to an emerging and deadly pandemic will, if one comes at all, be on hold until Trump's son-in-law familiarizes himself with virus research, pandemic response protocols, and other applicable information so that he, himself, can make a decision based on his “research” rather than deferring to the government’s own assembled public health experts.
Upon which Trump may or may not do it anyway, because he believes it would "contradict" his message that his administration has the virus under control.
Fuck that guy. (dnftg)
Trump was clearly worried about the stock market and his ego, but I think he missed a golden opportunity here to ensure both would be in good shape. DeWine has essentially shut down a large chunk of Ohio and he is going to come out smelling like roses. It’s a win-win situation for him politically. If this ends up being nothing serious in Ohio he looks good for preventing badness. If it ends up being very serious he looks good for having hand sight to stop it in its tracks as early as possible and have good damage control. I tend to think he is doing a solid on slowing transmission since most data supports that approach. Good for him and good for Ohio. Now get us some tests....
So are we going to do this to ourselves every winter because there will be new strains of flu virus each year. Here's an interesting review of H1N1 from 10 years ago:
https://www.nbcnews.com/healthmain/a...nds-2D11657478
I’ll probably get flamed for this, but I really think the media in the US is doing everything they can to make this hurt the economy and therefore hurt Trump’s chances at reelection. They know Bernie can’t win, and doubt Biden can win. The worse this is, the more it hurts Trump.

And this is why Trump's messaging early on mattered so much. By throwing it out there as a hoax, a media plot against him, and that it was essentially under control while it was rapidly spreading, there is now a percentage of the population that believes that no matter what. So even though Trump announced in an primetime oval office address that it was a serious threat, people will not move off of the original position.
I don't think the majority of people realize what's really going on here. There are so few confirmed cases in Ohio (and somewhat, nationally) because there has been very limited testing. It has given people a sense that "well, it's not here yet, so we're fine" - not the case.
There was a confirmed case in Ohio where the person hadn't been to any impacted countries and that person hadn't been exposed to anyone else that had been sick (I forget the term they used for this type of case), and they still contracted the virus. The CDC stated that in situations like this, it means about 1% of the population probably has the virus (based on their research and trends). With the population of Ohio being 12 million, that's roughly 120,000 people likely infected in Ohio (that's where this new 100,000 number has come from). A stark contrast to the publicly communicated 5.
Knowing this puts a COMPLETELY different perspective on this and starts to make you fill in the blanks as to why everything is being canceled, schools are being called off, and large gatherings of people can't happen. This virus has likely been among us for a month and without any measures, it doubles every 6 days. So it gives you a sense of potentially having half a million to one million people exposed with 2-3 weeks, just in Ohio (and think of what that means nationally).
Because we are just starting the isolation measures now, there is going to be a huge spike before this gets under control (a spike we will likely never get our hands on since there isn't adequate testing). Prepare yourself for 3-4 weeks of this isolation (potentially even longer) and potentially even stricter measures from the government (like what's happening in Italy). Hopefully it doesn't get to that point, but it's certainly a possibility.
As a comparison, China is just now ramping down on this, and it was introduced to them in December I believe. We're in for a rough couple months. Be smart. These measures aren't political anymore (I agree that's likely where they started).
Kids daycare closed for 3 weeks...holy fuck.
COVID- confirmed in Cincinnati. Family of 4 quarantined at home.

This quote from the news article is quite interesting to contemplate:
“It is important to remember that the overall risk to any individual is far greater from seasonal influenza than COVID-19 at this time and that simple hand hygiene, respiratory etiquette and personal protective equipment are highly effective,” the UC Health memo stated.
That isnt really the point though.
Seasonal Flu is spread out of 8 months and doesnt have new cases exponentially every day. This is about limiting exposure and spreading so that our healthcare system isnt completely overrun.
I'm seriously confused why people keep referencing the flu is anyway. Unless it is just to compare symptoms to tell people what to look out for.
That's precisely why everyone is referencing the flu, it's because the virus is similar in structure, comparative symptoms, and transmission. It's an easy analogy to make because everyone basically knows what the flu is. You're also correct that it isn't the point, and that it is about limiting exposure and spread. I mentioned it earlier, but we don't have an immune response built up to coronavirus as we do the flu, so that will take our bodies longer to fight this thing off. The flu is something we can use as a comparison because it's relatively well understood by the general public.
I just went grocery shopping for my 92 year old mother to keep her from being exposed by being out. I have NEVER seen anything like that at a grocery store (a HUGE Publix). This was like the day before Thanksgiving times five. I couldn’t park in the Publix lot, had to chase someone down as they loaded the car to get a cart, then got the last banana (singular) in the store, there was no bread, the meat sections were bare. CRAZY!
The wife is working from home and I’m going to hunker down like it’s a different kind of hurricane situation. Thankfully, they still had plenty of beer and wine!

Your neighbor’s priorities are so far out of whack they do not deserve such fine things or a fine automobile for that matter...
I've been using the Walmart delivery for the past year. Get everything I need with little hassle using the promo codes available on the web. My grocery shopping is down to 10-15 minutes since I have everything logged in my "favorites". Delivery next day. Easy peasey. Still go to the butcher shop for meat once a month or so 'cause their meat ain't the best.
Weird opening my newspaper to the sports section this morning.....no sports.
When I got to my Rec Center in Indy this am and found it closed, I decided to get some things at Kroger. Toilet paper, gone, plain white bread gone. Other than that, plenty of veggies, meat, fruit and dairy etc. Headed over to a nearby mall, stores nearly empty. The media is trying to turn this into The Great Depression II. Someone said 4 people in Cincy tested positive. Out of what half a million ? Get a grip people. Yes take precautions, especially if you're old or your health is compromised, but this is not the end of the world.
I think some may be downplaying the virus but also see people putting things in perspective. Big difference IMO. Like the vast majority of things, I tend to let people feel the way they want. However, doesn’t stop me from giving them my opinion lol.
On a personal note, completely understand why you may take certain precautions because of what you went through last year and having a young family. Hope you’re doing well.
You don't get it dude. Those that don't get it, which is most, will extend this to a 3 month event instead of a 3 week event. Get yourself educated on what is going on here.
It's not about the severity of the virus, it's about limiting exposure and reach. This can be done in 3-4 weeks, or can still be around in the summer. Our choice.
I have little faith in humanity. The more people you come in contact with, the greater chance you will get or give this virus to someone else. Social distancing isn't to ensure you don't die, it's to ensure this doesn't expand.
4 cases have been confirmed in Ohio; however, the estimate is that 100,000+ people are carrying it (and likely don't even know it). The more people expose themselves to more people, the longer this lasts, the more become infected, the longer we sit in our houses, and the more people die.
Do your part and limit your exposure to other people. By far the best article I've read on this is below. It's long and detailed, but shows the impact of not putting in these measures. To put it bluntly, if we don't follow this distancing advice, we're screwed, and the government will be forced to intervene with measures like we've seen in Italy.

Trump on lag in coronavirus testing: "No I don't take responsibility at all"
That line is gonna be on a lot of commercials as we approach November.
I was not amazed at the continued refusal to ever accept any responsibility.
I was struck by his lack of concern for his family and staff.
Last week he was in close contact with the Brazilian president and his press secretary, who has tested positive for the virus.
The president sloughed off questions about whether he would be tested...because his doctors said he had no symptoms.
But, you can be carrying the virus and be asymptomatic.
So, he could be carrying it and passing it along to his family and staff, and anyone he shakes hands with.
Why would he not be responsible and get tested?
If I was in close contact with, had dinner with, etc. someone who tested positive, I would get tested.
I understand saving our (unfortunately) limited testing abilities for people who do display the symptoms.
So, maybe they wouldn't test me. Maybe I'd have to self-quarantine.
But he's the damn president. Get tested. Maybe Melania will thank you.
Perhaps Melania is hoping for the sweet release of death.
Thankfully the market closed before that presser...
The side by side comparison of Italy reported cases and ours is alarmingly close, just we are about 10 days behind. This is going to start to get scary and real very soon. I am no expert but I am trying to listen to them. Please stay at home the next few weeks as much as you can.
There are increased reports locally here (via cleveland ER personnel I trust) of people claiming travel to know countries or contact with positively tested individual in order to receive testing. Urgent cares and ERs are denying tests in some the most logical of scenarios to test because the ODH has actually denied testing and refused to run tests sent. I am not a conspiracy theorist by any means, but this is testing suppression for no logical reason.
