I'm just curious. If there is a chance of one domestic terrorism act (say killing innocent children in a grade school in Newtown) because assault rifles are available to the American public, would you be in favor of banning assault rifles for purchase by the American public?

Nobody outside the military or law enforcement needs an assault rifle. I rarely take stands on topics like this, but what good is served?

I will say that I don't necessarily agree that citizens need to have assault rifles...the problem I have is the government telling me what I can or cannot have. I'm worried of the slippery slope.

There was a post that was deleted (and I can get you - unnamed poster - not wanting to get too deep in this, seriously!) but I wanted to comment on it. My wife is Lebanese, and her mother is at her family home outside of Beirut at this moment. It's less that I distrust the Lebanese or Syrians (where much of her family is also from) than that I don't trust our ability to vet the good people from the bad people. Hell, I'd like to ship some of our people over there! It's not about skin color or religion. It's just hard to tell who the crazy bastards are. Now I've broken my informal rule twice. Thanks Snipe! :-)

I fully understand that, but where is the line drawn? What if I want some plutonium because I like to make amazing bombs? There has to be a line, and I see no reason for assault weapons. What good has come of them in recent decades? If anyone can think of anything, does it offset the bad?

Can you please define what you believe to be an assault weapon? It's hard to have a convo about this since it is not a term used by people who have an understanding of firearms.

What does me knowing any Muslims have to do with anything? Great argument! I have nothing against muslims or anyone that is different from me by the way..except for those pesky terrorist groups. I'll tell you what I do know. Radical Islam exists, and they would like to destroy our way of life. Unfortunately, it is hard to tell someone's true intentions even with vetting processes in place. Maybe check out the story about the iraqi terrosits who claimed they were refugees and got into our country. You know that isis has infiltrated their way into European countries by saying they are Syrian refugees? Check that out. The same could happen here. I'd rather not risk it at this point.
