I wouldnt be totally against the advance the ball rule.
However, if I get to be basketball czar for a day, I am banning the help defender charge 100000%.
Not good defense, never called correctly anyway, dangerous, get it out of here.

Yeah I totally agree. It just so happens that most of those who have seemed to do it for that reason were towards the end of their coaching careers anyway. Maybe it accelerated it a few years, no issue with that.
Jay Wright probably had a good decade left. Not sure if he left because of NIL and portal but if so, good for him, and I didn't hear him bitch about it at all. He's got a sweet gig it seems now.
Glad Syracuse didn't back down to Boeheim. He needed to go.
No sure I agree to get rid of the help defender change. I definitely dont agree that its dangerous any moreso than a handful of other types of plays.
If you got rid of the help defender charge, then you will see ALOT more hard fouls at the rim. Trying to draw the charge is 50/50 at best. So you may end up with a foul. So if you really need to prevent the bucket and drawing a charge isnt an option, then laying the wood becomes plan A. And near the rim, it's not always a shot contest as much as it is a hard foul with the intent to make sure they dont get the and 1.
Why would it be good that one of the BEST COACHES in the game left because of rule changes. The rule changes pushed out one of the Best "good guys" in the sport. how is that good? All the things that are happening is all of the things that i said would happen.
The NIL and Portal combination is akin to free agency with no salary cap. Any school with a whale supporter can just bankroll the entire program. Let me tell you this....if I had say, 1 billion dollars I'd call Miller right now and tell him he could count on $5M in NIL money next year and that he should attack the portal to get a FF level roster.
thats all it would take. Now, I'm just making up that scenario, but you KNOW thats occurring as we speak. How much budget do you think Pitino has for this upcoming year?
The reason the help defender charge is ridiculous is that it is not a basketball play. It’s a guy sliding into a spot to take a charge. I agree there is some skill involved in this but it is not a basketball skill. These guys are so fast and athletic it is an extremely difficult play to officiate correctly. The last thing we need are more replays.
