XU82 - can I offer some advice? When you debate someone, try offering some facts as a counterpoint, instead of whining like a little bitch all the time....

Nice try Paul.... I never said the scientists were making stuff up - in fact, as I pointed out, the WHO, ECDC and CDC agree with me - lockdowns do not work.
If you would've read a little more clearly you would see that my criticism was pointed at the tyrannical politicians in this country and around the world.
Do you work for CNN?
You are such a charmer. Read my link. The CDC and Dr Fauci are on my side of this. The side of the vast majority of people. Look around the grocery store. YOU are the kook Scientologist here. You provide worthless old links and think you make YOUR point. It’s a giant fail.
I am not for lockdowns, but I am for slowdowns. We will get through this, and it will happen faster if the no mask idiots had half a brain or an ounce of consideration.
It’s been (not so) fun, but I’m done with your garbage on this topic. Bring something real and current next time.....but given the history I’m unlikely to read it.
No, actually your link is not a counter to the CDC guidelines and studies I've provided over the last several weeks. It does not refute your claim that masks are needed in groceries. At least twice now I've provided you with the CDC's own guidelines on how the virus is transmitted - your response has been to whine and provide no counter arguments.
"the history" - what joke! In other words, if I provide information that goes counter to what CNN tells you, there's no merit in it - that's what you really mean, right?
Paul I have to take exception with your references. The first s from UC, so it can automatically be dismissed as garbage. :-) OK, kidding aside, the issue is it makes a "leap" argument that because asymptomatic kids have the same viral load, they can spread it. That's like saying because someone has as strong of an arm as Joe Burrow, they can play quarterback just as well. There's a lot more to transmission than viral load. Specifically in this case, the study used PCR testing, where there's no way to know if the RNA being detected is from live or dead virus.
The second is the CNN's interpretation of the CDC, and we've seen numerous instances of left- or right-leaning sources bending CDC statements in a way that fits their narrative. Not only that, but the CDC has changed positions on this multiple times in the course of this pandemic. Somewhere in the depths of this thread is discussion where they changed positions that asymptomatic spread is possible, after initially saying it's not. They then said over the summer that it's not possible, but apparently have changed yet again. I take that with a grain of salt.
Here is the actual research study released a couple days ago that showed no asymptomatic spread: Post-lockdown SARS-CoV-2 nucleic acid screening in nearly ten million residents of Wuhan, China | Nature Communications
The fact is that asymptomatic spread has not been a consideration in viral transmissions. Here is Fauci dismissing asymptomatic spread, and I quote: "In allthe history of respiratory-borne illnessof any type, theasymptomatic transmission is never a driver for major outbreaks. The driver of outbreaks is always a symptomatic person.

That's pretty clear.
Edit: adding a link to the significance of this study and how it’s not getting the attention it should:

Who on this board thinks this should happen in the US?

I'd say that already happened, except people weren't fleeing airports like O'Hare left and right back in March/April.
I think the "UC" was University of Colorado.
Science does change positions as more information becomes available (see, Copernicus).
It would appear most agree that asymptomatic people can have a viral load and pass it to others.
It's OK I think to change a position when more info becomes available.
Muskie, with all due respect, not a red herring. Have you visited a doctor's office over the last six months? Could it possibly be that medical professionals, medical journal authors, and (Gasp!) the media is taking note of the backlash and it's domino effect during this pandemic? This does not only include the health/mental well-being of our society, but also the economic situation in our country. The bigger picture is... if people can't breathe, they can't work. If people are dealing with death or sickness in the family, their lives are altered. And the studies that the anti-maskers keep introducing, put the "efficacy" of wearing a mask in doubt.
To be blunt, I don't need CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, Rush Limbaugh, Fauci, Breitbart, Ben Shapiro, Candice Owens, the CDC, WHO, a facebook group, or a highly partisan website to dictate how effective a mask or "social distancing" is. During this pandemic, my personal doctors have cancelled appointments, insisted on taking my temperature at the door, and ABSOLUTELY require me to wear a mask before entering ANY facility.
What continues to be astonishing to me is that people can spend over a decade studying, researching, and dedicating their lives to their chosen fields (in this case, medical). And in today's world, all it takes is a Google search, political grifters, and/or a social media group to undermine the majority's consensus. Dark times for our society.
If you think you have won in some way, you are wrong. I am just bored with you and your nonsense.
The CDC and Dr Fauci say wear a mask. PERIOD. No question about that. I trust them more than your random old links cherry picked to prove your point that it’s OK that you are the only jerk at the store without a mask because you are somehow miraculously smarter than everyone else. You are not. Death, taxes, and you are not smarter than the rest of us, Fauci, and the CDC. With that, I’m out.
Scientology is calling for you. Sometimes the minority is the minority for a reason.
