According to the article, this isn't just "someone says it", as if this was some person sending an anonymous letter. This was two people, who both spoke to the committee, and apparently gave details of this incident. So unless there is some basis indicating these guys are not credible (they are the wrong age, they grew up in some other part of the country, they lived together in the same psychiatric hospital for several years, etc) then yes, this is compelling evidence when two people come forward and say "That was us, not him."
