If Xavier wins 5 more in a row they're officially in at large territory. That 5th win would be over #1 RPI Kentucky.

10 in a row!!
Meanwhile, Scott Googins at Clifton Community is 14-19 while Billy OConner is 20-12.
Fair exchange??
UConn will be coming in this weekend ranked #20 in the polls.
However, they do get Wright State in the Joe Nuxhall Classic at UC's stadium tomorrow. Not sure why they never play any of those games at Hayden.
11 in a row with the win over Wright State 6-2 today. Love it
Rolling like the Blue Blob!
Also interesting that UConn is playing 2 midweek games before this weekend series. Would love to get into UConn's bullpen early in the series.
Gonna be a fun weekend.
Never been to an XU baseball game, would maybe take my oldest son this weekend. When are the games? Fri, Sat, Sunday? Can buy tickets there?
Tickets are $5 at the door - this weekend they'll have the Friday game at 3 PM, Saturday at 1 PM and Sunday at 11 AM. Guessing Sunday's time is for travel reasons for UConn.
UPDATE:
Saturday will now have a doubleheader starting at noon b/c of inclement weather on Sunday. Admission will be good for both games.
As for today's game, Xavier up 6-5 in the middle of the 6th. Alex Helmin had a 3-run HR in the 4th and Jack Housinger had a solo HR in the 4th.
Streak over 7-6 uconn
UConn hit back-to-back homers to take the lead in the 7th; Xavier stranded 5 runners (including a bases-loaded 7th) in the final 3 innings.
Oh, and Sean Miller to throw out the first pitch tomorrow before the first game. Gotta pull out all the stops for tomorrow.
Home run derby ends with uconn up 11-9.
Ended up being a split doubleheader, but Xavier's pitcher in the 9th took a liner off his shoulder and ended up getting a fielder's choice. He stayed in the game but ended up giving up a pair of 2-run homers after that.
Now the team goes on the road for the week with a midweek game at Kentucky and a 3-game series at Villanova. Could really use a sweep after this weekend.
Elsewhere in the Big East over the weekend:
Seton Hall won 2 of 3 against St. John's; the Pirates are now in a 3-way tie for 1st with X and UConn.
Georgetown won 2 of 3 at home against Creighton. Hoyas now tied with Nova for 4th at 5-4. Bluejays now 3-3 in the Big East and 6th place.
And yes, Nova swept a road series at Butler. Xavier better not overlook them this weekend.
Kentucky snapped us back to reality 13-2.
Regardless of what happened against UConn, winning at Kentucky would have been a huge reach for this team. Granted, that's potentially the kind of game they'd be playing should they advance to the NCAA Tournament.
On to Villanova - time to send them back to the Stone Age.
Weekend series against Villanova being streamed on FloSports - so far, off to a good start with a 2-run 1st inning on the strength of 1 hit and 4 Nova walks.
Only 2 hits - Xavier should be slacking.
But it's 6-0 because 1) the 2nd hit was a 3-run homer and 2) Villanova has walked an astounding 9 batters and hit another batter through 4 innings.
8-3 x bot 7th
And an 8-4 victory. Ethan Bosacker threw a complete game and saves the bullpen for the final 2 games.
14-1 today. The weekend is going to plan so far!
Big East contenders win series like these, NCAA Tournament contenders sweep series like these.
Guessing Brent Alazaus gets the ball tomorrow; today was a bullpen game with both Luke Hoskins and Luke Bell making appearances on the mound.
Meanwhile, Georgetown did salvage 1 win at UConn this weekend, so a Xavier win tomorrow puts the Musketeers back in 1st place by a full game.
Seton Hall has dropped their first two at HOME to Butler and needs a win to avoid a sweep tomorrow.
Creighton won their opener against St. John's last night.
Xavier ain't messing around - put up a 5-spot in the 2nd inning and now up 6-0 through 3 innings.
9-1 X 8th
9-3 win and now a full game ahead of UConn in the Big East. Outscored Villanova 31-8 for the entire weekend.
Now the lads come home for a midweek game against Eastern Kentucky and a struggling Seton Hall team for the weekend.
SWEEP!!
Rolling!!
Gonna be in Cincy this weekend and catch one or two games. Let’s SWEEP THE HALL!!
Sweet. Will definitely be there Saturday; probably going to be late for the Sunday game b/c of morning Mass.
As a heads-up, they DO sell beer at the baseball games now. Concessions are cashless, though.
And go ahead and add a 7-3 victory against Eastern Kentucky today. 5-run 1st innings gave the Musketeers a cushion they'd never relinquish.
Xavier 7-2 .778 26-15 .634 11-4 15-11 0-0 W4
UConn 6-3 .667 29-11 .725 11-3 14-6 4-2 L1

Uconn one game behind X is top 25 in D1
Yup, Creighton finally woke up last weekend with 2 come-from-behind wins against St. John's. Would love to see Xavier take advantage of regaining that 1-game lead now that UConn owns the head-to-head tiebreaker.
A question for Band and Go since you guys follow this team more than anyone.
Are most of these kids on this team Billy O recruits or are there some left over from Googins?
This is a pretty damn good team and if Billy is recruiting them, we are set for a good long time.
