When I first heard about the coronavirus I was fairly dismissive. Even when the first cases were reported in the United States I wasn't worried. I was sorry for what happened to the nursing home patients up in Seattle, but I still chalked it up as an individual tragedy and not a national emergency. As recently as a week ago I was thinking about how I hated that the fear of the virus would sort of hang over the tournament and take away from it a little bit.
Yeah, kind of underestimated this one....
You're definitely not the only one. Still haven't cancelled a golf trip for early next month - holding out (unrealistic) hope.Quote:

I was at a gathering (which is probably a mistake right there) for my son's baseball team last night, and I listened to one of the coaches say that cancelling the NCAA Tournament was "definitely a money decision because the NCAA realized people would see how great the NCAA Tournament was on TV and wouldn't buy tickets anymore." I didn't have the heart to tell him about the TV contract for the Tournament. Also, the coaches were scrambling to find a replacement baseball tournament this coming weekend for the baseball tournament that was cancelled. Heard Minnesota infectious disease expert Dr. Osterholm being interviewed on CBS this am. He said one of the "bad practices" stemming from the precautions is the closing of schools. His point was children have been shone to be mostly unaffected by the virus. Closing schools takes out roughly 20% of the healthcare workers who now have to stay home with their kids. This is the same Dr who predicted 48,000,000 Americans could contract the virus and half a million could die, so he's not someone who is taking the whole thing lightly.
But the scariest thing I saw about this whole mess is a picture of long lines at gun stores of people wanting to stock up on ammo.
Got to be honest: in the midst of this, I kind of wish I was a "gun person". I'm pretty sure I've never even touched a gun, but I'm feeling like this is going to be a stretch where having one on hand isn't a terrible idea.Quote:
