And South America and India are at the beginning of their pandemic. So is the USA and Mexico. We're seeing increasing numbers everywhere. And no, it's not because of increased testing. It's because of increased contraction. The US reported 24,000 new cases just yesterday. Our moving average isn't so different from April and May, which is to say it's a god damn shame.

What's amazing to me is Africa's largest country, Nigeria, is controlling the pandemic better than Egypt and South Africa, better than tiny Kentucky and Ohio...I mean the whole continent is huge and they've got their issues with lack of hospitals, etc etc. and they are doing better than places not too far away like Italy and Spain. I hope they can keep the numbers down.

I didn't realize that the total US number had remained as steady as it has.

So basically for the most part the cases are just shifting from the original epicenters to a more diffuse spread around the country.

To me it looks like it has come down. Around 36,000 cases April 24th and just under 18,000 June 11th. Good thing we are getting things opened up. Continue to protect the older population and people with health issues like we should have from the get go.

Not ideal, of course, but much better that way. As we were all told from the beginning, the goal is to keep the health care system from being overrun. A diffuse spread around the country allows for that.

Not our parish, but the next one over (our "rival") had its pastor test positive in the last day or two. He handed out communion to 200 people last Sunday. A fear of that is why we haven't been back to church yet (this is my story and I'm sticking to it!).

Aw, so you don't think the shutdown had anything to do with the case rate falling?? Look at the pattern across the US states, and perhaps you'll change your (hopefully open) mind on this.

It may have but the only way to know is keep it open and see what happens. Protect those that require it. Ohio is open now as is Indiana and cases continue to drop.

Religious services has been a very effective way to spread this all over the world. Some are even told that God would protect them, you need to come to service (and likely fill a basket with cash, of course). Some crazy stories.

Congrats! You may have eliminated some rivals!

Also I don't think the main transmission source of COVID19 is the media. If they stop covering it, it doesn't mean that it will magically go away. Deaths seem to have leveled off, but we are still looking at around 1,000 a day, which means 200,000 deaths by the end of summer is not that crazy of a possibility. A far cry from the number will be going to 0 statement in March.
