I thought his tenure at West Virginia was a reflection session.

Xavier doesn’t need to say anything. It’s kinda like res ipsa loquitor.
100%, I could not agree more. However, while I agree that a tone deaf response is a legitimate risk, I am at least as worried about the optics in general, even if the statement isn’t tone deaf. In every respect that matters, Bob Huggins is irrelevant to Xavier basketball. He has been gone for 16 years and it shouldn’t move the needle. Taking umbrage publicly or even relaying acceptance of his apology could make Xavier look small time. Xavier does not need Bob Huggins’ apology. Let him be the only one who’s still stewing over losses to a rival 16+ years ago. He’s the only one on either side of the rivalry spewing venom all these years later. My suggestion to everyone - laugh at the uncivilized drunkard, roll your eyes, and demonstrate the class that he so clearly lacks.
That said, it takes a special kind of bigot to express homophobia and religious discrimination in one short phrase.
I heard the local Catholic HS threw him in the JUG.
Xavier shouldn’t react in any way. Just ignore it.
Personally as a Xavier grad and someone that is raised Catholic, I’m not offended. I thought that it was just Bob being Bob and just him talking some smack. However, I’m sure that some people are. I am sure that some people that he disrespected are feeling very offended. I don’t see any way that this won’t result in either him being fired or him resigning. Either way I’m afraid that it’s the end of the line for Huggs.
I really don’t care how this all ends with Huggins. But today was one of those great days on social media where everyone (Xavier nation) was in on the joke and pulling in the same direction for nothing more than the memes. Man was hoisted on his own petard and we all got to roast s’mores around the campfire it created.
His only saving grace is that he also disparaged Catholics. In our clown world, that totally off-sets making a disparaging remark against gays. It’s like he said nothing at all.
If he had just say “that’s just them being Catholics”, would there be near the uproar? Probably not IMO. In our world today it’s more than OK to disparage western religions, in fact it’s often encouraged. But say something about any minority and you’re going to be canceled in every way possible. This is somewhat a backlash for the major religions and ethnic groups in this country having done the same to minorities for hundreds of years.
…….and that’s probably the last social/political post I’ll ever make here. Please forgive me for being serious about something for a few moments. I’ll not do it again.
Bigger question? Why does Cincinnati radio/media continue to have Bob on the air or interview him? He doesn't even like UC.
I need to know if the crowd really threw rubber penises on to the court. This is what the real question is here. LOL
Thank you. I am troubled by the fact that, with only two words, Huggins evinced both homophobia *and* anti-Catholicism, and yet hand wringers in the media and on social media are only rebuking him for the former. Why? Because anti-Christian sentiment, and anti-Catholicism most especially, is one of the last forms of acceptable prejudice… and we all know why. Can you imagine the field day the media would have had if he’d called a group of people “Muslim f*gs”? You’re damn right there’d be more ink spilled about it than has been spilled over his anti-Catholicism.
In short, while I fully agree that his homophobic slur was abhorrent, I also have no shortage of criticism for those who are outraged about the homophobia but have not a word to say about his religious discrimination.
I think there is some truth to this sentiment, but but if he had called Xavier folks....a bunch of Catholics....well, that would just be true. It's the INCLUSION of the other word that turns the statement about a group of Catholics INTO a slur. So yes, he's being both homophobic and anti-Catholic, but the bite is in the homophobic slur....and therein lies the pre-occupation with that side of it.
just my two cents
SORRY FOR the double post. Site was acting strange.

All you would have to do is hold it over your head and security would be fine with it.
It isn’t unbelievable that this could have happened at a game. What is unbelievable is that it happened and nobody remembers or talks about it. This story would have gone down in Xavier lore with each telling increasing the size and number of dildos.
Thought just occurred to me: most here - and I agree - have stated that we should stay out of the fray over all of this. A certain type of response from Xavier would not serve our best interests. I'm fine with that; I get that.
Here's our potential issue: we've been slandered - as a fan base, as tied to an institution. As "Animal House Funny" as it sounds to have fans throwing rubber penises at a clown like Huggins, it also is true that that is a bad look for Xavier and its fans in many quarters.
This drunk had to have made that incident up. No one here remembers anything like this every happening. In what is considered one of the top rivalries in college basketball, we have never heard a whisper about such a thing happening during that game. How is that possible if it, in fact, happened?
Bottomline: there is a lot of people out there now who have a rather negative perception of Xavier fans and Xavier (sorry, guilt through association in this society) because of what this drunk said on the radio. So, I'm back to going after him for 20 mill for the new football stadium!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streisand_effect No one but us is talking about the Xavier side of this story. Why bring more attention to the part of the story no one cares about?
I’d like to know the exact year that the object throwing occurred. Never heard a thing about that, nor anything said on TV and I have all the Crosstown Shootouts recorded.
Thuggins claims 1) Dan Peters was his Assistant, 2)that Bilas was doing the game, but the only games at Xavier when Peters was Assistant was 1999 at the Gardens, 2001 in Cintas when UC won by 20 when David West got hurt and 2004 in the Lionel Chalmers game. If it was 2004, Bilas wasn’t in the booth. Len Elmore was the color guy. And, at that game, UC Sucks shirts were banned from Cintas and Father Hoff and Nancy Zimpher actually did a mid court pregame ceremony together to lessen the rancor. If it was 1999, Bilas didn’t do that game either. It was Dick Vitale as the color guy. The other games were at 166.7% Arena.
I doubt that Huggy would be mad about a game that he won by 20 in 2001. I don’t think Bilas did that game either. I call total BS. Guess BeelzeBob was drunk again.
From the Canton Repository Newspaper a few days before yesterday:

I don’t see anything about plastic penises.
IF this really happened, I’d think somebody here would have some recollection of this. I don’t trust Huggy as far as I can throw him.
On the other hand, some Bills fan threw a dildo at Tom Brady during a game, and the consensus was that he deserved it. There is photographic evidence. Hey, we jump through burning tables, what do you expect?
Kerr Kriisa has announced he will be retracting his commitment to West Virginia and will re-enter the transfer portal, per source.
The former Arizona Wildcat has two years of eligibility remaining.
It was a stupid statement. I don't want us to lose Huggins. He is the gift that keeps on giving.
No opposing coach has deserved so much negative news like Bob. He fits the role perfectly.
Guess rivalry hasn’t lost its luster. Despite Paul D’s observations. Actually, Daugherty had a pretty somewhat odd (if you can call it that) article on Huggs today.
Looks like Doc has a blog.
