It's actually worth what anyone is crazy enough to pay. (See Bonilla, Bobby.)
Right but under normal circumstances, TV revenue generated by advertising drives most of that. Especially with golf. They aren't generating big dollars like the NFL and MLB with ticket revenues.
That's not the case here. LIV isn't generating anywhere close to what their paying out in dollars to the players.
So help me understand the end goal?
The players make shit load of money and then what?
I understand your overall point but making a million dollars a year or so to me is not grinding. Yeah I get it, you have to practice and play golf (oh the horror) and the pga probably kept more of a percentage than they should have, but millionaires whining to me is just that, whining.
Why would you think the Saudis are in this whole thing too make money?
There's no indication that any revenue stream (tickets/TV advertising/etc) will cover their expense.
They are in it for other reasons. Probably to burnish their image on the world stage; or to provide entertainment for their citizens (like a FI race or soccer).
They've got billions of dollars from the world for us to drive our cars. They are just playing with a fraction of it.
Wanna know why great players are going over to LIV?
Money and more time off.
Scottie Scheffler at his most relatable in the interview room at the Masters.
"It's weird, golf is a deeply unsatisfying career. Like, all I'm thinking about right now is getting home. I'm just trying to answer your questions. I'm not even thinking about the green jacket right now. I just want to go home."
The Reporter that won the Master's media lottery has never played a round of golf in her life. Her first ever round will be at Augusta. Should we set the over/under at 250 strokes?
Scheffler is ridiculous right now. Worst round this year has been even, and he’s made over 12 mil in 30 days beating his competition. Imagine that.
NIL for the PGA.

LIV is not a normal business model. 99.9% of companies actually want and need to make a profit. They have owners and investors that want and need to make a profit. LIV is just spending oil money and some these guys are taking advantage of it.
Rumor mc elroy getting 850 million plus 2%.

Not starting new thread for this. However, this is awesome from Scottie. Great season young man.

62 million not a bad years work.
Would much rather see PGA vs Liv than Presidents cup. Man that is an awful international team...
Baby steps. Will you watch this?

Sweet! Two guys with zero personality, one that whines about everything and Bryson.
YouTube golf is more interesting than the tours nowadays outside of the few majors
Interesting that LIV hasnt really added anyone of substance since Rahm.
Can’t say I’m surprised. The guys who wanted to go, went and the ones who wanted to stay probably aren’t going be swayed anymore. They have made enough money and realize the liv product really sucks.
I do wonder what the saudis end game here is. Their product isn’t gaining viewers, I assume they are losing a ton of money every single day, and they aren’t suddenly going to get more golfers. At least not ones that move any kind of needle. With the deal that the tour made with the U.S. agency, they now have the cash flow they needed and liv no longer has the leverage.
I know the two groups are still in negotiations but I’m to the point where I wonder if anything ever gets done.
Looking forward again to seeing Jason next week at the LIV event in Chicago suburbs (only 15 minutes away from my house!). I'm much less of a golf fan overall with LIV/PGA issues, but I've enjoyed seeing Jason and following him around a handful of events. The best was back in 2019 and seeing him hit close to a tight back pin on 18 at the BMW in Medinah and make birdie - just enough to allow him to finish in the top 30 on the tour and secure an invite to the Masters the next year.
