Xavier Baseball 2023

Figure it's time to fire up this thread for the upcoming season as well. The baseball team opens up the following weekend with a 4-game series at Oregon starting on Friday the 17th.

Season tickets are going for $35 this year; there's also a complimentary admission game when they play against Northern Illinois at Prasco Park on Friday, March 31 at 5 PM. The Musketeers were picked to finish 3rd in the Big East behind UConn and Creighton; Georgetown was picked 4th.

I believe this is also the final year that the Big East Tournament is committed to Prasco Park; not sure what their future plans are after this season. I imagine UConn is going to make a push to have that tournament played in Hartford at some point.

No real Southern swing. 12 games on the Left Coast which should be fun time in SoCal.
And Wofford goes to Hayden field.

They originally had a West Coast trip scheduled in 2020 until Covid interrupted those plans.

The road starts at UC-Santa Barbara with a single game at Cal Poly and finishes with a series at Saint Mary's.

As for Wofford, I'd expect most Xavier fans to be preoccupied with another team that weekend.

For sure. There is supposedly a St X guy coming down next year to play at Wofford.

Oregon gets a run in the 1st inning after a 2-out walk by Xavier.

Promising stuff from Ethan Bosacker. Better if it had come in a win, but you can't have it all.

Hate to jinx it, but Xavier is currently leading a top 15ish Louisville team 6-5 in the 7th inning. It WAS 6-2, but Louisville got 3 in the 6th.

I get the sense that Xavier's pitching is still going to be an issue this year.

Their pitching at Oregon was decent at times, but the bats failed them during the 4-game sweep.

Not surprised they're losing home run derby games at this stage.

Winless no more! The Muskies played their first unranked opponent today in Western Carolina and came away with their first win, 9-4. Two more games in the series, tomorrow and Sunday.

Yay! No 0-9 start this year!!

Kinda surprised they lost 2 of 3 to them last season when they were at home. Would be real nice to get another win or two.

Xavier wins 15-3 in the first game of today's DH; now going for the sweep as we speak.

16-12 win in the nightcap. 6 Xavier runs in the ninth to nab the come from behind win.

Good thing the nightcap was a 9-inning game; thought it might be 7 innings since it was a DH today.

It appears our pitching is a dumpster fire again.
There are 18 pitchers listed on the roster. 9 of them are Seniors or Grads.
Can they really be this bad on the mound?
Edit. Luke Bell got shelled, and Bosacker gave up 3 runs in one inning.
Need a quality closer. Hope we can find one.

Boyle gave up the three first inning runs. Bosacker has been excellent in his two starts. 1 earned in 5 innings on Friday.

Apparently NKU's DH had quite the day yesterday - hit 2 grand slams in the 1st inning yesterday and ended up hitting for the cycle with 10 RBI in their win yesterday. Xavier and NKU meet up tomorrow.

Pretty good day for Xavier's midweek pitchers. Beat NKU 5-3, and they're obviously capable of being explosive. 4 game win streak for the good guys as they get back on the plane to the Left Coast. UC Santa Barbara for three this weekend, then one at Cal Poly followed by 4 at St. Mary's the following weekend. Sounds like a fun spring break!

4-5 is much better start than 0-9.
Mathematics tells me that.

The 0-9 start makes last year's 33-27 record seem pretty impressive, honestly.

2-2 on the West Coast roadie thanks to a win at Cal Poly tonight. Aggressive baserunning paid dividends on a night the Musketeers had great pitching against the Mustangs' ace.

But 4 more with St. Mary’s before coming home.

They'll be lucky to get 2 games in - rain has forced cancellation of the first two games. They also have to move today's games to a local high school that has artificial turf field b/c Saint Mary's field is unplayable.

Split a Doubleheader today. Lost game one but took Game 2 5-2.

Thanks to a heads up from 94, I see the Muskie baseball team is escaping the bad weather in Cincinnati, and heading to Spartanburg for the 3 game Wofford series.

I was hoping they'd cancel the series. Wofford is 14-2.

Xavier beat Wofford 9-1 in the first game of today's doubleheader. Wofford is #10 in the RPI and was 14-2 coming into the day.

2-2 in the 13th

Jack Housinger with a 3 run bomb in 14th. We win 5-2. 8-8 Thought they might have to bring in PaulXU to pitch after a few beers.

Back to .500 9-9.

Hansen shut the Terriers down in the 14th. I got to continue drinking bourbon.

X is up to #35 in RPI.
