How will X do with the tough OOC slate? :logo:
13-1 will be a very nice upgrade from last year's 8-5. I think we lose only one game, by one point, in the final second. It won' be to U.C.
59 days 'til Bellarmine!
I think we'll beat the odds and go 17-0 OOC. I know that's overly optomistic seeing as though we only play 14 games, but I think we can do it...
I'm counting Vandy and Memphis as our two losses. Those will be two very tough games, but aside from that, X will roll.
My guess is best case 12-2. Probably more like 11-3 though. Vandy is really good especially at home on their goofy floor with the coaches on the baselines. Then between Georgia, Butler, sUCks, Purdue, Gonzaga, Memphis, and possibly Clemson, and Kansas State if we get to play them in the Christmas tourney I think we will lose 1 or 2 of those. Is our team awesome. Yes. Is our schedule hard as hell? Absolutely.
If we go 13-1 and continue to dominate the A-10 like we have in past years I have no doubt that we are 3 and probably a 2 in the tourney. 32-2 or 31-3 would look pretty damn good come selection Sunday.
I voted, but getting expectations so high before January seems like a set up for disappointment. 10-4 would be just fine. 10-4 with a Feb win at Memphis would be fabulous.
The seed is not critical, it's how we are actually playing in March that will make a difference.
20 - 0
I'm pretty sure the 6 teams we beat in the NCAA Tournament will be from another conference.
The 2008 team got a 3 seed in a year with a number of elite teams, and that's with a weaker schedule and more losses. If this team only loses one non-conference game with this ridiculous schedule and then dominates the A-10, I'm thinking easily a 2 seed, maybe a 1.
We're running down the schedule at the blog.
One thing that didn't make it into my written interview with Rick Broering was a discussion of expectations for Xavier next year. Rick made the great point that, despite the talent returning and the exciting newcomers, there's a lot of integration and role development that has to occur early in the season. If you look at our roster breakdown -- or the one on this site -- you'll notice that Xavier has five newcomers this season plus a guy in Redford that's been on the shelf for a year. Last year the rotation was pretty much set (by necessity) by the Paradise Jam, this year a lot of guys will be scrambling for time. While this year's team far more talented, last year's team knew their roles from day one, in other words.
As a result, I'm not going off the rails with expectations for the 2011 portion of the season. I would be overjoyed if we held serve at home, split the roadies at Vandy and Butler, and won two of three in Hawaii. But given the difficulty of that post Thanksgiving, pre-Christmas stretch, 9-4 would not be horrible going into conference play.
