Some buddies and I are heading to Vegas, we are looking for a cheep hotel with a great location. A few poeple have reccomended Imperial Palace for price and location, but some reviews make it sound shady. We are looking for a place to pass out when we are drunk, not get pampered. Thoughts? When I have been in the past it was with my ex and her fmaily and they alwasy wanted to stay more upscale. So Vegas on the cheep and easy is new to me.

Stay at Bally's. Middle of the strip, accross from Bellagio, connected to Paris, fairly cheap, great casino (I liked it atleast) and an all around solid place to stay.

When are you going? There are so many deals in Vegas now you can stay upscale on the cheap if you do your homework. I booked three nights via hotwire and stayed at the 5 star Wynn for 75 per night. If you see a 5 star listing in Central Strip on Hotwire, that is the Wynn. 4 stars can be had for 50-65 bucks on these sites right now and will get you TI or MGM. If you use a service like hotwire or priceline...only go 4 stars or above. I use these services for travel all the time and am usually happy with 3 stars in any other city. In Vegas, on the strip, a 3 star could get you some crap like Barbary Coast or Sahara.

Probably heading end of june, we do not care much about amenities, just good location, and not a complete dump. Think drunken frat boys hit Vegas

I try to make it out to Vegas once a year. I use this website. It has great promo codes on it. Stayed at MGM Grand last year for about $50.00 a night. It links directly to the hotels own websites. Good luck. http://www.vegas-promotions.com/

I would recommend looking for deals at Treasure Island (TI) then. They just redid the rooms for more of a modern feel. They are trying to cater to 20somethings with the types of clubs but aren't crazy expensive like clubs at the Palms, etc.

If you are truly just looking for a place to crash, I bet you can find deals at places like Imperial Palace and Sahara for like $35-50 bucks...but I stayed at the Sahara once and felt like it took me a week after my trip to get completely clean.

Just for fun, I put in random dates for June in Hotwire...Check in Friday the 12 leave Monday the 15th. 5star condo central strip for $92...maybe I'll go!

Imperial Palace is perfect for what you are looking for. It's not very nice, but it's fine, and it's in a great location.

Imperial Palace is serviceable, but lacks the modern "flash" of the gitzier places. It also has the downside of being set back a bit off the strip due to a club sitting out front. Unless someone else knows another route the walk from the front door of the IP to the Strip is about as charming as a dark alley.

However, consider the fact you are accross from the Mirage which has a tram to TI. The IP also shares a monorail station with Harrah's From the monorail you can get around town quickly, just be mindful that it seems like the monorail stations, especially for the MGM Grand are like 2 miles from the vegas strip.

If the Bellagio/Ceasar's area attracts you then Bally's may eb the way to go - there is a skywalk out in front of Bally's that takes you to either Bellagio or Ceasars, and you share a monorail station with Paris.

Sahara's falls into the more dumpy side, and its sits off on its own, but does have the monorail station going for it and that's about it. In fact I would avoid the whole North Strip. The only think Stratosphere has going for it are some insane thrill rides (which is why I have been there three times), Circus Circus is the unofficial kiddieland of Vegas, the Westward Ho, Frontier, and Stardust are all memories at this point. Even the Riviera seems to have lost a lot of its luster.

Central strip will get you a good cross section everything from the glitz of the Bellagio and Venitian down to the grit of the Barbary Coast, Bill's Gaming Hall, and the like.

Besides wanting a cheap yet respectable place to stay, any other interests such as golf, theater, Cirque, clubs or anything that way. The gambling iyou can do at any casino out there, so chice of where to stay may depend on what non gamlbing activities you are intested in.

If you want to be center strip, the IP is the place to be Bally's or Harrah's are also pretty good ones. If location is not that much of a factor but you still want to be on the strip, try the Tropicana or even the Luxor - Luxor is at the end like the Trop but it's connected to the Mandalay which is a very nice casino. You could also try Hooters - it's just off the strip next to the Trop but across the street from MGM. I stayed there when it was the San Remo.

If location makes no difference the Stratosphere always seems to have dirt cheap rates.

That can't be right.... Nearly $1000 for 6 room-nights at the IP?

Looking at the harrahs.com website, the highest I see for any night for a room at the IP is $85 for Saturday nights. This assumes that none of you are holding any kind of player card for any ceasars hotel.

The most you should pay for 2 rooms for three nights is $200 per room total for the weekend, or a total of $400 for the weekend. (taxes excluded).

That is for our air and hotel.

I love the IP. It's my favorite place to gamble all day. You can find low limit tables, some cheap and fun poker tournaments and some of the friendliest dealers in my opinion you'll find on the strip.

If you're thinking that you might take some pool time during the day to take a break from the tables, sleep off the night before, or scope some ladies, I'd suggest the Flamingo next door if you're on a budget.

That is for our airfair and hotel.

Whew.

$330 per person air and hotel is not a bad deal. Direct flight? I might join you....

If there's one thing I screwed up on my first few trips to vegas, it was not taking advantage of players cards. Make sure you all get them (if you don't already have them) as soon as you get there and always use them when playing at all times.

leaving from Indy at 5:30 am, stop in Charlotte, then in Vegas by 9:30 am on a Wed. return flight leaves at 11:15 pm direct to Indy

On that return flight.... make sure someone is sober enough to drive home from Indy. A 4 hour flight is not long enough to sleep off Vegas.

Yeah, be carefeul when using Travelocity or any of the like for Vegas. Travelocity works great for most destinations, but most destinations aren't Vegas.

The way Travelocity works in partciular is basically the Gnome quotes you a price on the air, hotel, car - if you agree to the price, you pay the gnome and the gnome pays the service providers. As I said its all well and good in most cases.

But Vegas is different, here is my experience when I went to check out of the Luxor. The day before I was to leave the Luxor, the other guys who were going with me wanted to see Fantasy (a topless showgirl revue at Luxor), so I chatted up my local layers club representative and was able to get free tickets to Fantasy ($65 value each for a 75 minute show), some free buffets, some cash back, and then she broke the bad news to me. "Its a shame you didn't book your hotel directly with us!" I asked how so, and she said that had I not had a prepaid hotel room, she would have been able to write off part of the hotel bill. Suddenly the deal I had worked with Travelocity for a week at the Luxor and airfare wasn't looking so good.

The good news is my rated play for a week was in the thousands and my "net loss" for the week was $37.00 (You can go online and look up your player statistics, ain't that scary!)Add in all the free food I munched on, the free play I got at some of the tables and slots, the cash back rewards, unlimited free booze "I'll have another Long Island please!") and some free shows I think I did alright for myself.

But yes, the first thing you do when you enter a new casino, I don't care if you only plan on being there 5 minutes is get a player club card. You just walk up to the players club desk, show them your ID, and they hand you a card. You show that card to the dealer if you play tables or insert it into the meter if you play slots. Then they can keep player stats on you (time, total cash in, total cash out, total bets made, etc) that is the key to free food, free rooms, free shows, and more. A few years ago I was just stoping off to see the Sahara, they were literally handing you a slot card on the way in (a temporary card you had to exchange and get a real card made at the end of your session), we didn't plan on staying long, but by the time we left, we had each earned a $10 rebate and a free buffet. The Sahara buffest may not be the best buffet on the strip, not even close, but when you just flew into town and just want a quick free meal and get back on the gaming circuit it works.

Whats great is several hotels that have common ownership have linked their cards so you just pick up one card at the first MGM Mirage or Harrah's/Ceasar's property you visit and that same card is good at all of them. Which means you can rack up comps faster as you casino hop down the strip.

Hotwire has a 5 star condo for 99...can't do much better than that....single rooms from 19...had very good success there when price was the big consideration.
