I'm disappointed in the A10...no one playing in the CIT

I'm surprised SLU didnt get invited to any of them. They were a 3 games losing streak away at the end of the season from a chance at an NIT bid. They really fell apart at the end. I thought SLU was going to finish 10-6 in the league at worst 9-7 but they fell apart. I'm still surprised a little they didnt get an invite to the CIT. There are some bad teams in that bracket.

Edit: Apparently Majerus said he would decline either one (CBI, CIT) because the team was too beat up and he didnt want the players to miss class. So maybe they did get invited to one maybe not, not sure.

A-10 teams really shouldn't be buying their way into tournaments like the CBI or the CIT.

You should see the debate on the Richmond site about that topic.

Apparently one side claims Richmond paid $60,000 to host the game, and then gets to try to recoup that in tickets and concessions. They were charging $10 for admission, so they would have needed 6,000 there. Actually somewhat less if you consider most people get a drink or something from the snack bar. They also get another home game monday, no clue if they have to ante any more money into the pot.

Others claim the $60,000 was from last year, no clue as to this years financial terms. Yet a third side claims yes it was $60K but a well heeled donor paid for the game.

Another subject for debate for them, is should they hang a banner in their arena proclaiming they made it to the CBI.

Anyway to keep this thread on topic, the A10 is now 2-1 in post season play:

Rhode Island takes care of Niagara - wins right to play Penn State. - CHECK
Richmond helps in the exposure of the Big Least, wins right to take on Charleston - CHECK
Dusquene, after 15 years of post season irrelevance proclaims "We're not going down without a fight!" - Makes the Virginia Tech team actually have to work and pull overtime - twice. Star Dukes player collects 46 points before getting fouled out. I know there are no moral victories but for that particular program, last night was the brightest spotlight they have had in 15 years. If only they would have made that last free throw at the end of regulation. - LOSS (but don't be so smug, we needed 1 OT and a buzzer beater to take down the Hokies ourselves!)

Update:

Well the A10's hopes in the NIT are gone.

Duquense lost to Virginia Tech in a double OT heartbreaker earlier this week.
Rhode Island was able to secure a win over Niagara to advance to the Sweet 16, then lost to Penn State last night.

Things are better over in CBI world:
Richmond was able to help in the destruction of the Big East post season taking out Big East (doormat) St. Johns, they get to play, uhm, Charleston I think on Monday. At home again. Richmond fans are happy about making it to the Elite Eight, and talking about hanging a Final Four banner if they win.

But then there are the A10 teams in the NCAA. We have three teams in the NCAA this year, and none have been eliminated yet. Oh wait, none of them have played yet.

In the matinee session we have Temple starting their crusade by trying to ruin Christmas for Arizona State. In other news, the Dayton Flyers are just happy to be there, and have the daunting task of defeating Huggins and his Mountaineers. Dayton fans meanwhile are excitedly planning on when and where to hang their NCAA Participation bannner. They don't get to do that too often you know.

Don't let that distract you, those two games are merely the opening acts for The Show. The Show plays in primetime. Our Musketeers vs. Portland State Vikings.

11 hours to go until The Show!

Today, in NCAA action:

At Halftime Arizona State leads 26-35. (Yes, that was for you Cincypunk)

Okay, in reality Arizona State leads 35-26 at the half. So much for Temple's crusade to spread the Christmas mesage to Arizona State. (Christmas is 3/6 behind the 3 point line and leads their scoring at 13)

Flyers are leading Huggins 21-15 with 7:38 left in the first.

Oh also Pitt is only 1 point up on ETSU with 7:31 in the 1st 20-19, and Mizzou is up 13-10 on Cornell with 10:49 in the 1st.

The noon round of games all were chalk. (For those worries about the lack of upsets)

Jim Burr is literally handing the game to Arizona State. Very Very Very upsetting to watch
