I lived in 220...I remember being woke up at 6 am on saturday morning to find the RA outside my door with everyone else in the hallway, out of their rooms too. I found out from the RA that someone had shit in the sink on the bath room counter and it was overflowing onto the floor (there was that much shit)
No one would admit to it, so she randomly picked 2 people to clean it up, and guess who got picked...ME and this other kid!

My freshman year was '93-'94...can't remember what room I was in (215 maybe), but my roommate and I lived on the first floor, until he flunked out after the first semester.
Anyway, we had so many problems with our RA. Dude would camp outside our doors, just waiting to get a glance inside one of our rooms and see any alcoholic beverages or something so he could write us up. Anyway, our wing had far and above the most write-ups of any wing on campus. Our RA scheduled a meeting with Adrian Scheiss to discuss it, and Adrian wanted to show that out misbehaviour wasn't reflecting well in our grades. Well, along with the most writeups, we had the best GPA of any wing on campus. Adrian and actually speechless for the only time I'd known him from being at Xavier.
We actually hung up a large banner at the entrance to our wing: Worst to First, Worst behaviour, and First in GPA. RA pretty much to his room after that :)
Good times.

Can't remember my room number but I do know I was in the very last room in the building. Top floor, end of the hall. 1990-1991. RAs that year were a hoops walk-on and a ROTC guy. Interesting mix of personalities and "styles."

Hell, when I was at XU, they turned the Brockman lobby into a bar, really.
3.2 Beer was legal, and there was a concern at the time of guys walking off campus to go to Dana's or Woody's. So Father O'Connor just established a drinking establishment in Brockman, so guys could just quaff right there.
I don't know how long it stayed a bar, because I left, but that's just another part of the Brockman history.

The bar's name was Mother Tucker's Tavern. Most of the time they served 3.2 beer, on special occasions a local brew call "Sir Edward Stout" was substituted. I believe the last year for the bar was 1977-78.
I have been looking for the t-shirt for years. The t-shirt had oval with a side view of Susan B. Anthony. "Mother Tuckers" framed the top of the oval and "Tavern" framed the bottom. However, the font of the verbage was Old English. The capital T's in the verbage could be mistaken for "F"'s.
I spent 4 years in Brockman, at the other end of the hall from the bar.

Legendary performance by the Big Cat... That was my carpet... I'd like to also point out that he first attempted to clean the puke up using laundry detergent... that didn't work, so he resorted to dull scissors... this fateful night occurred in late March, and since it was such a great story, we decided to ride it out the rest of the year and just left the carpet frayed to hell with laundry degerent splattered on it... great times

'90-91 year. Room #214 with Schnarf.
1 night sticks out especially for me. It involved the implosion of some dorm over at UC that coincided with the end of the Xavier school year. Virtually no one was left in Brockman, so a buddy (Grubby) and I decided to drink the night before the morning of the implosion, all we had was iced tea mix and vodka and no money whatsoever. We also had moved all of our belongings out too, no bedding, no nothing. We were running around the dorm, throwing iced tea mix on whomever we could find, stacking furniture in weird post apocalyptic style configurations for absolutely no reason, taking as many doors off the hinges as we could, just being stupid.
The next morning was horrific, waking at 7 to the sound of some RA on a loud speaker yelling that everyone must be out of the building in 15 minutes or else, while I was flat on my back on the cold tile in my room, using a bed mat as a cover. Hooboy that was a terrible day.
I HATE dayton.

I had never heard of Mother Tucker's until about a month ago when my brother-in-law (XU 80) told me how he lived across the hall from it his freshman year. What a freshman year-living across the hall from a bar. He told me they closed it down at the end of his first year.
But whoever came up with and/or approved the idea of having a bar in the freshman dorm should have his jersey retired.

Of course on campus living sucks, but we had to do it as freshmen so we made the best of it. I actually think it's a good idea to require freshmen to live in campus because it prevents you from becoming too isolated. I certainly had a much better time living off campus, for obvious reasons, but I can see the merits in having freshmen live on campus.

Brockman Hall Rm 134 w/ SurfXu. Our RA tried at first but he just gave up after first 2 months. One night after drinking heavily. We cranked up the intro of the Talking Heads "Buring Down the House" 3 times in a row at about 3:00 am and our RA ran into our room and yelled, "Why", "Why"!!!?? and then left. We never got written up for it.
Like I said, we quickly controlled him and he sponsored a wing event w/a Univesrity van and we all headed down to the Spaghetti Factory and proceeded to order picther after pitcher and got hammered. I'm not advoctaing this but I'm sure our RA could have gotten into serious trouble. While he was more sober than the rest of us, he had a few beers too. Thankfully, we all made it home. It was stupid but very fun at the time.

Pit central room 10. God I loved Brockman. Best RA and great hall of guys. I recall having a good meeting or two with Adrian Schiess that year.
I always enjoyed the late late Friday nights when everyone would be up to God knows when outside on the front steps. There were many nights where I as well as several others would end up with a backpack full of beer sitting on those steps waiting until the campus 5-0 would roll by and everyone would grab their shit and run inside so the cops could not get anyone. We used to have a challenge after eating in the Cafeteria where guys would grab oranges while leaving and from the parking in front of the cafeteria\Kuhlman, you would see who was closest to landing the preferred fruit in the ashtray on the steps of Brockman. That was classic, although not the nicest gift for any student leaving the building at the time, they had a serious air attack coming their way sometimes.
Good times in Brockman.

I had two RA's during my time in Brockman. The first one was fired with about 2 months left in the first semester. Still to this day no one but Angie Kneflin knows why he was fired. We tried everything to get it out of her but she still remains quiet. Our second RA was cool. Didn't really do anything. Was like the perfect ref, you know he's there but you don't notice him.
One of the craziest memory I have is sitting on the front steps of Brockman at about 3 in the morning with two of the guys on my hall while they got high. What makes the story even better is that I had 3 prospective students asleep back in my room while we were outside.

Brockman 1981-1982, 3 North, I can't remember the number, but it was the one next to the bathroom (which was a good thing on some nights). We had only one legal keg that year and illegal kegs all the other weekends. Our RA did not care as long as we told him so that he could not be there...he would have us bring him a glass or two and then he would take off for the night. The custodians of Brockman would let us use the freight elevator at the end of our wing to bring up the kegs. Ahh memories....lets get an illegal keg and party on campus before a game....oh and my roommates nickname was "Balls". On 3 central one of my friends nickname was "Goddamn", because that was his word for everything, he would dink a 5th of Jack in 13 seconds and then say Goddamn....he drank a big bottle of Tobasco and said Goddamn.....I have to stop I am tearing up right now....

First, we remember the names because that group in The Pit was tight. For a wide range of people, we were really close.
Second, on-campus living might normally be lame. But life in The Pit that year was anything but. Picture a bunch of freshmen living in an apartment, off-campus, and having the entire floor. That's what it was like. No beer? Right. No parties? Right. It was insane. The very first night we were there, before even meeting with the RA, people were already starting to drink. Unbelievable group, trust me.

Room 206 (.... I think). I loved that place, but hated my RA. We once unscrewed his peep hole from the hallway, and emptied a fire extinguisher into his room through it. I can also be credited with duct taping the the button down on the ice machine in Tucker's Lounge. The floor was covered w/ ice. Looking back these are both incredibly lame stories. Somehow during it all, I thought it was great.

To set the record straight, fellas, I was actually trying to be sarcastic. I did stay home until my senior year at XU, and it just felt like extended high school. As a commuter, I was detached from everyone else and didn't hang out with many people from X other than those that I knew from the area already.
If I could do it all over again, I probably would bite the bullet and take out a student loan so that I could live on campus for the true college experience. The route I chose wasn't so bad, though. I ended up not having to take out student loans, which proved invaluable in those first few rocky years after graduation.

I later heard that they went around the building trying to blame it on some poor freshmen. Man, that was a blast.

I think Brockman was definately a great place as a freshman. I was in the pit in 94' with Wags (Jason) as my roomate. I remember about 2-3 months into the year the two of us swapped roomates with the guy across the hall who went by Frenchie because he and his roomate were about to kill each other. Frenchie and I remained roomates, but if I recall Wags new roomate drank himself right of XU within a few months after the swap.
Also there was Brent and Jason among others who were great friends during my time at X.
One room I'll never forget was a few doors down from me was guy named Ken Lui and his roomate. They had these huge speakers, a good size tv, and a pretty good gaming system. We all used to play some type hockey game and Bill Walsh football. One night after some fairly heavy drinking I apparently was chilling out and watching a video game with a beer in my hand feeling perfectly fine, then out of no where I hurled all over the console and the floor. Apparently I was so hammerred I did even realize it because just sat back in the chair and continued to watch the game and continue to drink the rest of my beer. After finishing the beer, I just got up after a few minutes and left without saying a word. I recall none of this, but Ken reminded me of it for the rest of the year so it is burned in my brain.
I also remember this one dude who was some kung fu/human weapn/triple black belt bad ass named chuck (i think). Some of us use to go to his Tai' classes and watch him beat the hell of people. His roomate was this little Irish guy we all called laddie'. One of the nicest guys I ever met. All in all, a lot a crazy guys who liked to have fun.
I haven't kept in touch with any of these guys, but if any of the Pit crew from the Xavier Class on 98' are on this board, I hope you are all doing well.

Eventually she just gave up staying there on any night she actually needed sleep.

I remember seeing some guys playing mud football and I invited myself to join them. They all decided to shower in Brockman and, since I lived there, I had no choice but to walk in the building with them, and then up to 3 South a.k.a. Tequila South. I lived across the hall from the guy with the 200 watt DJ system.
I kinda remember talking to my RA about it later, but I didn't get in any trouble.

I remember you. There's a great picture of all of us that I still need to get a copy of from one of my suitmates back then. I think I will email him and see if he scan me a copy.
