Welcome to the first edition of the XavierHoops.com Top 25. Each week, 15 or so posters of various backgrounds will converge in the back halls of XH to select a Top 25. Here's the Pre-Season Version. Please note, we had one voter fail to vote. A special thanks to XU05and07 for putting this together, and XUOHTX for the snazzy icon.

Two people voted Louisville ahead of North Carolina? Yikes.

Do I get reps if I name the posters?

UAB with five votes. That's the last time we let Mike Davis vote.

Well maybe they thought about the injuries to UNC and no longer thought they were the same team without Hansborough and Ginyard?

Great work on getting this setup. With everyone stepping up to the plate I wanted to see if there was an interest in keeping members "prediction results" top 25 (this may be something that is already in place). I will be happy to keep track of this with the exception of 3 games in which I will be out of the country. Any ideas on a point system would be helpful. Didn't mean to highjack this thread but thought it would be a good place to throw it out.

Looks like all the voters were pretty fair and unbiased. Xavier down at 29th is lower than some "experts" have us. This should be a very good addition to the site.

I put them in at 25 myself. I debated about it for a long while. I probably shouldn't have put them at 25 in retrospect.

Do the posters have to reveal their top 25's like AP voters, so we can mock and belittle them?

I think Juice nailed it on the head in regards to why certain posters put UL over UNC.

I second that.

I also put them at 25. But I think that is fair. I really expect this team to be better than most people think. Also, there are some teams at the bottom that I think we are better than, Baylor, Davidson, Wisconsin, I even question how good Kansas will really be this year after losing so many great players.

You're not the only one who questions how good Kansas is right now. According to Gary Parrish, Coach Self doesn't think his team is a top 25 team right now.

I did not include Xavier in my top 25. It won't take much for Xavier to earn their way in, though.

I did not include us either. And I'm surprised that more people didn't have Gonzaga in the top ten. That's an impressive team out there.

I would have to look to be certain, but I downgraded Gonzaga a little bit in an attempt to compensate for all the hype they get from ESPN. They're a talented team no doubt, but how can you really tell if they have Top Ten Talent yet? Aside from their OOC schedule, they won't face much competition. The jury is still out on them, at least in my poll.

And aside from their in-conference schedule, most Big East teams won't face much competition. I'm not sure what you mean.

I left X out. Davidson won't be as good as last year, but I still think they'll be solid. I have no idea what their PG for this year is like.

Isn't the pre-season poll strictly based on what you think? I mean nobody has really played anyway.

Yes but I don't wonder if a Big East team is tournament tested because of the conference they play in. I can't say the same about the WCC or whatever it's called.

I do not have Xavier with its unsettled guard situation on my ballot. They can get there pretty quick with a good showing in Puerto Rico.

I do not have UConn nearly that high. Something flipped in Storrs from building great teams to running out great collections of talent as an NBA way-station. They can prove me wrong.

I didn't have X in the top 25. I didn't have Davidson in either.
