Xavier- 20 Tri-State Sharks- 9

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Muskies win at Lockland H.S. stadium on a beautiful night for football (stadium featured brand new field turf) in an excellent setting.

Muskies kick off to the Sharks and first quarter was basically one of field position with one long Xavier reception deep into Shark territory nullified by an offensive pass interference. Quartrer ended 0-0.

Second quarter saw Xavier passing its way to the Shark 8-yd. line and facing a 4th and 6. QB Chris Greenwood threw a pass into the endzone with receiver Craig Hallman making a nice sliding catch for 6 points. Hallman's PAT made it 7-0.

Xavier's defense did a nice job of containing the Sharks and with the clock running near a minute left in the half, the Sharks faced a 3rd and one on their own 31 yd. line. Eelcting to pass, the Sharks failed to convert but decided to try a run on 4th down which Xavier stuffed. The Muskies took over on downs and facing a 3rd down, Greenwood's pass attempt to wideout Dan Deters was intercepted with the Shark DB returning it some 70 yds. for a TD. A Sharks' personal foul left the PAT kick attempt 15 yards further back; and a Muskie player blocked the PAT. Half ends, X up 7-6.

X received the 2nd half kickoff but was pinned deep in its own territory as the result of a penalty on the return. Drive started on X's 8 yd. line but with a nice combination of passes and runs, X marched to the Sharks' 8yd. line where on a 3rd down play, Grrenwood ran around the left side into the end zone. With Hallman's PAT kick, X led 14-6.

The score remained 14-6 as the 4th Q. started and the Sharks moved to the Xavier 25 yd. line before the defense stop the drive forcing the Sharks to kick a field goal to bring the score to 14-9. The Muskies took the kick off and returned it to their own 40 yd. line and moved the ball to the Sharks 12 yd. line when Greenwood found Dan Deters in the front corner of the end zone on a pass play to make it 20-9. The Pat was blocked.

The Sharks took received the kick but the Muskies coverage was soliid. A desperation heave was intercepted by a Xavier DB and returned some 30 yds into Shark territory with seconds left. The clock ran out and Xavier sealed the win.

It's late and I just wanted to post the score and highlights, I got to pin down some new players names but this was a very solid effort by the veterans and newcomers. The defense played well as did the offense. The Sharks are a semi-pro tean and they featured a couplle of athletic QBs and the game was cleanly played.

Congrats to Coach Powers and team!!
