Some may be sad to see him go...some it's a welcomed farewell

CBS color analyst Billy Packer's streak of Final Fours is over after 34 years, The Miami Herald reported Monday.

Who is Martelli going to fight with?

The selection show just got an immediate bump up in my book. I won't have to hear Packer complain about why Syracuse didn't make the tourney. Of course he'll go work for ESPN (or eeeek Fox Sports Cincinnati/Ohio) and continue his wrath from there.

I can just see it now: A meet the sports reporters type show titled "Dickie V and Billy P on sports".

This is great news IMO. I have been tired of that blowhard for a number of years.

I just remember how awkward the selection show was the year George Mason went to the Final Four. Billy was so pissed that George Mason got in over his BCS teams, lol.

Good riddance. He was pretty consistent in being wrong on most subjects.

Good-bye to Billy "Fudge" Packer. I am sure there are tears in all of ACC-land, but the rest of the country has got to be pleased.

Fans from Xavier and librarians from St. Bonaventure.

He'll always have Wojo.

The information he provided as an announcer was always illuminating. But his styler was joyless and depressing.

What's up with the Clark Kellog choice. I guess he's a new voice. But certainly if the fans had a choice on the matter Rafftery would be the choice.

My favorite crew is the Lunqvist (sp?) and Raftery combo. A lot of people like Gus Johnson, and so do I, but I like this combo better for my games on CBS.

I was watching a game on CBS College Sports earlier this week (a UK-Vandy replay from earlier this season) - they had Gus Johnson and Clark Kellogg doing PxP for that one. We'll just have to wait and see where this goes come April.

As for the studio, do they bring back Mike Francesa (the old studio guy who now has his own radio show in New York) or do they go elsewhere?

The amazing thing so far, is that I haven't heard one person say they will miss him.

What is amazing to me is that it took CBS this long to realize this.
