Since the O.J. Mayo--for--hire story was broken by ESPN, we have been subjected to a variety of denials, blame-placing opinions and recommendations for correcting almost everything that in some way ails basketball in general and the college and NBA game in particular.

First, can we please get rid of—as in never ever use again—the practice of adding the word “gate” as in Watergate to every real or perceived investigation of something illegal or a scandal. Hey, the original “gate” occurred because the break-in took place at The Watergate complex in Washington D.C. It was a legitimate way to label an investigation, trial, whatever. Since then we have had every “gate” but Pu$$ygate and that's still possible. No more Mayogate or Reggiegate.

And, can we please stop acting as if ESPN did something wrong by breaking the story, or that there are any completely “innocents” in this whole sadness. The agents, the management firm, the go-between for the agent, the high school, the Ohio High School Athletic Association, the NCAA, the NBA and its Players Association and the media, local and national.
