How is Swain? Please share with us his status for tomorrow's game. You're the self-proclaimed "insider" with all the contacts you must know the details on something as important as this.

Yeah I’m not a self proclaimed insider so let’s cut the crap. I know of things from time to time based on people I know within the athletic administration.
Shouldn’t you know? You’re a high dollar season ticket holder and know gc personally.

weren't you the one who said Free was out for the year about two days in? yep you were. So, how about just fading back to obscurity and not spreading lies? Apologies you don’t understand the difference between knowing people within the administration and knowing someone on the basketball staff or players. I get told big things from time to time, not the condition of every single players physical health. Not like you, apparently.

I will just note that this is a relatively important contest for the Muskies.Well, Dayton whipped them by 18 at Hawaii. Surprisingly, Liam played 30 minutes with 0 points! I see no reason why we can't just win this.

If Swain plays (big if even if mild sprain) it would be difficult to be effective. He is not a spot shooter or statue defender. I would be surprised if he plays and even more surprised if he plays and is effective. It’s an important game but I would rest him unless he has zero pain and swelling.

I realize all sprains are different. From your medical perspective (granted limited tv view), why do you think this? Pain tolerance? Of course there will be some type of swelling just like Alex had for UConn game this week.

Replay I saw he rolled it pretty good. He was in a lot of pain initially so I would imagine probably more than a grade 1 sprain. That is usually more than just a pain tolerance as it is usually not fully stable with certain movements. You have to tape it so tight it is tough to play basketball on. I have no inside info so I could be wrong but 72 hours is not a lot of time even with the best treatments.
Here is the injury (https://x.com/stjohnsbball/status/1882245821858726118?s=46&t=-A4DJpmuSN2OI01wKOmz3g). He rolled it on Davion’s foot.

His sideline antics are a little much but the guy is one hell of a coach. He never throws his players under the bus ala Cronin, and always gives props to the opposition. Gave swain and Cintas big praise and I respect the he’ll out of that. I for one am glad he reps the conference the way he does. It’s needed especially with such a weak ass commissioner as far as branding/marketing
Xavier

I think he was out coached tonight by Sean.
Anyways, Swain is really coming on. For those mad (myself included) that feel like he wasn’t improving/ he is shutting us up. He tweaked his ankle again early in the 2nd. Not sure if it was talked about here, but he was limping a lot. They were sitting him and not really running thru him at all in the 2nd. His offensive board in the last minute was huge.
We are an overall solid FT shooting team until it matters. Maddening. We missed 4 straight FTs at one point. As for Hurley, he had a lot of good things to say about Cintas after the game.

Great win! Y’all can thank me for it. A friend won the raffle benefiting the cheerleaders earlier this year for a suite for this game. My wife and I started watching the game from there, but when UConn took the lead late in the first half and had it and the half, I decided we needed to be in our seats for the second half. You’re welcome!
For those who’ve complained about the crowd, how’d we do tonight? It was loud! My ears are still ringing. Also, I think there might be an email going out to the students from Dr. Hanycz about the “Fuck Dan Hurley” cheer that kept coming up. I’m guessing she wasn’t happy about it.

Thank you!
Regarding the crowd. Sean praises it when it’s deserved as he did tonight. However, he has made several subtle statements throughout the year about the lack of enthusiasm from the crowd. It’s easy to have that kind of atmosphere against back to back champs. Not that I’m Asking it to be like last night, but Can x bring it when it’s Gtown, creighton and Providence coming down the stretch? We need to win out at home, we need the crowd engaged.

It just comes down to: are the students on campus? It was tough scheduling for us that students were on break for Marquette and St John's (Seton Hall was fine w/o students). We had big crowds for Marquette and St John's but putting non-students in the student section completely changes the building. Unlikely that you get a bunch of families to cheer F Dan Hurley. I think Spring Break is Big Tournament Week this year.

Meh. I don’t think it is just a case of students being there or not this year. But it definitely is the biggest factor. Heard there was a lot of issues with parking again. Total shit show this year.
Sean changing the defense to blow up the last play was great. They did that in another big game but can’t remember which one. Regardless, it was awesome.

Arriving was a piece of cake, but we got there about 7:00, so traffic was a nonissue. After the game, we went back to the suite the friends had and hung out for a little while. Still took a long time to get out of the lot (R3). Leaving didn’t seem any worse than after any close game with a packed house.

Also dropped one in kenpom but we won by what they would expect so didn’t think we’d see much change there. Some bracketologist have said they are firmly in the last four/first four conversations now.
I really don’t know- are we rooting for UConn to get healthy and beat Marquette/johnnies so it’s possible they move to a Q1, or lose so we jump them in standings?

Also dropped one in kenpom but we won by what they would expect so didn’t think we’d see much change there. Some bracketologist have said they are firmly in the last four/first four conversations now.
I really don’t know- are we rooting for UConn to get healthy and beat Marquette/johnnies so it’s possible they move to a Q1, or lose so we jump them in standings?
yes! We want both!

In watching a replay of last night‘s game, I noticed at the end that Trey Green was going through the post-game handshake line.
Does anyone know his exact status? Pardon me if this has been covered and I missed it.

He is still a member of the team, and is enrolled in school, but is not practicing and is listed as inactive for medical reasons. It is expected that at the end of the season that he will apply for a medical redshirt year and then transfer with 3 years of eligibility left.

Would Sean let him stay on the team if he is planning to transfer? It is an unusual situation.

From what I understand…….It’s a mutual decision. There seems to be a misconception by many people that transfers always involve either players or coaches that are upset with the other. That’s not the case in this situation. Both sides understand the realities and neither side is upset with the other. But Green wants to play and he’s not going to get the playing time he craves if he stays at X. It doesn’t hurt for him to remain on the team, but inactive, and it’s reflects well on Sean and how he treats the players. Green doesn’t travel with the team and only sits on the end of the bench for home games. Evidently he is well liked by everyone in the program and causes no problems or dissension.

Unknown. That has been asked but nobody in the know seems to be willing to say.
IMO though, it’s nobody’s business but theirs. He is still on scholarship and any NIL money was already budgeted for, so it’s not like it’s an extra expense. It may not be how someone else might run their business and treat their employees, but I can see a case for continuing to pay someone in this situation, and I can see a case where they wouldn’t. This is a strange new world for many in the profession and everyone is going to have to make decisions along this line that they never had to consider before. Before judging, everyone should stop and think what it would be like if after 20 years of being a manager in their own line of work the rules were completely changed overnight. How would they adjust and change their way of doing business? What mistakes would they make? What new things would they learn? Heck, I know in my own case that some of the decisions I made in my management career are not the same decisions I would make today. Especially some of the decisions about some of the people that worked for me. They can’t go “by the book” anymore because “the book” keeps changing and getting rewritten. I’m not going to sit in the cheap seats and judge or criticize every decision made by those in the arena. They are dealing with things that they have never had to deal with before and are just kinda figuring it out as they go. There’s nobody there to show them they way because this is all new for everyone and it seemingly changes everyday. I’m glad I’m not in their place, because I darn well know that I’d make my fair share of mistakes along the way.

Agreed! Since the first St. Johns game, the defense has been the biggest improvement. X isn't perfect on defense certainly, but the effort and intensity on that side of the ball since that game has been tremendous. If they keep that level of effort, I feel good about doing enough to make the tournament.
Good thing for X that Swain had such a good game...maybe bad thing for X, 15 NBA scouts also saw Swain have such a good game lol.

My understanding is Trey is getting his (or has already received his) NIL payments.
He can't practice with the team because he is seeking a medical redshirt.
It sounds like everyone is playing nice with each other and keeping things above board.
Xavier handled the pending transfers of Kam Craft and Reid Ducharme last year in similar fashion.

Fine with me. Both sides understand that this is just not the level for him, and that’s ok. It’s also good for miller to do this for future players/recruits. I’m sure this kind of stuff gets around, and you want a coach and administration to have your back even if things don’t work out.

This has been discussed previously but your statement is opinion not fact. There are players, including Trey Green, who have been on our roster since Miller arrived, transferred out and are quite capable of "playing at this level". I don't believe Miller has done a great job of managing the roster over the last couple of years. Not saying that I don't appreciate that Miller is our coach but not all his decisions have worked out.

Who are all these players that have left that can play at this level since miller got here? As far as playing level, it’s millers’ opinion and all the people that have left other than Claude (who wanted to be the lead guard) haven’t been able to play this level. So, I’ll trust him.
Green was a Steele recruit and I think miller was doing him a solid to see if he could develop into a be player, and it just didn’t work out.
I think it's fair to say that some talent evaluation/scouting have been questionable in quite a few cases though.

I stand corrected on him. that one is certainly fair and I completely forgot about him. He'd be a nice addition to this roster since Traore went down...I do wonder what those conversations were...if Sean told him he'd be a backup and he didn't want that, or Sean just said see ya.

Was just going to edit my post, after doing some more looking, to include him. Seems he is averaging 18 mins a game, and 12/6. Yes, X could use him but I think that if he was here Travore wouldn’t be. At the end of last season there weren’t many people that saw his loss as a big deal. By the way, his school, OSU is 10-9 overall and 2-6 in the Big12. Not a very good roster.

He didn't want to be a backup, and also wanted more money (allegedly). Not sure there was much common ground there, since Miller was intending on finding an upgrade at Center regardless. Unfortunate how it worked out with Traore getting injured and Hugley turning out to be a worthless player thus far.

Gytis is putting up big numbers at Hawaii. Not BE level, but on the other hand same conference that Traore came from and we all just assume he’d BE caliber.
Ciani is averaging 11 & 9 in 22 minutes at UIC. I generally doubt that he could come anywhere near those numbers in the Big East. He seems to be at the right level.
Craft is productive in the MAC.

EVERY program has players that they recruit that just don’t work out. Recruiting is a complete crapshoot and there are very very few can’t miss players. I don’t hold it against any coach when they miss a few. When it becomes a pattern of having many more misses than they do have hits, that’s a problem. Most of the guys that Miller brought in for LAST year didn’t work out. Most of the guys he brought in for this year, have. A few he brought in for next year, and the jury is still out on them. Let’s just have a great final 2 months to this year, and let the future seasons take care of themselves.

That's interesting. He was also shown in the locker room after I think the Nova game if I'm not mistaken on the last episode of all-in (which I highly recommend), and he looked genuinely excited about the win and cheering his teammates on. Definitely no hard feelings on either side it looks like, and glad he's still a part of the team in some ways.

*it’s certainly possible there is real mental health stuff going on, I have no idea.
