Hi all,
Everyday I get emailed around 10 invitation to have people join my LinkedIn Network. I honestly have no idea what this is or what the advantages or uses of this website/application. Is anyone here able to fill me in on why I would use it or what value it is supposed to offer business/individuals?
thanks for the insight,
KC

It's facebook/twitter/instagram for old, white people.
I get several notices each week with companies who are looking for candidates like me. Most of them have no link to reality. I will say this, if you're on there and serious, be sure you have your profile complete and current. My wife had her sales people go in and check theirs and there were some serious improvements to be made. If you're in sales you have to realize at least some people will go there to check you out, and you don't want it to be half assed. I almost always accept invitations, but it means nothing to this old white guy.

I wasn't sure if this was a serious thread or not when I saw the title. I figured everybody knew about LinkedIn by now. Not taking a shot at anybody at all by saying that.
I've been a regular LinkedIn member for many years now. I mainly use for networking and keep in touch with former co-workers, MBA classmates, friends or whoever. It's a great place to look for jobs. You can use its premium service to contact people you're not connected to. Otherwise you can only message people you're already connected to. I highly recommend LinkedIn. I've found it very useful over the years. I think it's a great tool for kids coming out of college or are early in their careers. I agree with xu82. It's important to keep your profile current. There's always head hunters looking on there and it's extremely important if you're job hunting.

Whatever it is (or isn't), Microsoft just spent $26 billion this week to buy it (second biggest tech buy ever).
