For the most part I stay away from wagering on NFL games. They are so heavily scouted that it is hard to find an unbalanced line. Exhibit A was the Thursday night game that was a seven point spread. Pittsburgh scored with two seconds to go to make it a seven point game.

When I do put down bets, I like to make a small wager on a underdog parlay on the money line.

Denver favored over Ravens by 4.5. Don't see it with their new "run first' offense. Ravens were 2nd against the run last yr. and Denver doesn't have the RB's or line to pull it off. Peyton will have to win it by chucking up the ball in the 4th qtr. as usual.

I almost took the Jets as my survivor pick this week but just couldnt pull the trigger week 1. Saying: "I'm out in week 1 in survivor because I took the Jets" just wouldnt sit well with me. I have been burned trying to get cute in week 1 before when I took the Lions the year they won ZERO games. Ugh.

I broke a couple rules taking my pick (a division team on the road) but there is no way the Packers lose to the Bears.

Yeah NFL is so tough, I dont usually bet on individual games. I am, however, in a weekly confidence pool. Everyone picks 10 games against the spread and ranks 10 to 1. Top 3 weekly win money. Top 3 yearly win smaller prizes. Been in it about 10 years and I was terrible last year, need a bounce back. I got Pitt at #7 but barely. Our line was 7.5 on that game so I covered with the TD

I agree Bobbie, hopefully they air out the offense a bit more and the defense remains as crazy good in the regular season as they were in the pre-season.

I think it's pretty clear that I like betting as much or more than anyone, and I almost never bet on the NFL. It's impossible to beat. At least with college sports I can fool myself into thinking I have a shot. With the NFL, just flip a coin. You've probably got a better chance.

Kubiak's offense ain't working yet. As said before, don't think the O line and Rb's are up to it. Won with "old school" Peyton. Charles didn't protect the ball and doesn't get it that he needs to put both hands and arms around the football when he's going down. I'm sure the Bronco's studied this fact on film and exploited it. That was the ballgame.

With Romo and Bryant out, I think today was the last good NFL day I am going to have this year, but it was quite a nice one. Beating the Eagles in Philly is always fun, but having Dallas hold Murray to 2 yards rushing was just the best.

Makes me that much more sick to my stomach that the Giants have thrown away 2 games and are 0-2 instead of 2-0. The Eagles arent that good, the Redskins arent and the Cowboys 2 best offensive players are out for the forseeable future. The Giants are blowing it and suck too though. Their D is terrible and Eli has made blunders in the 4th quarter 2 straight games.

Thank god the Mets are going to make the playoffs and XU bball is only 7-8 weeks away.

The year they went 0-16 I picked them in week 1 in my survivor pool. FML.

Speaking of which I am out of my survivor pool already. 343 people got knocked out so far already this week. Started with 490 and down to 85 already after 2 weeks. Out by week 4 3 years in a row.

I had three entries in my survivor pool. All 3 got to week 2, and two of the three had NO. If Indy wins tomorrow, it will actually be a fantastic week despite losing two of my three entries. I'll be down to about the last 20% of my pool.

And if Indy loses, anyone who is left will be down to about the last 10% of the pool. After week 2. Well played considering the pool will pay out about $60k.

I think John Fox is a really good coach. He has won everywhere he has been a head coach, not his fault he came in to a shit show in Chicago this year, got to give him time to fix the mess there. I think he is a lot better than a lot of the retread coaches out there. He is well over .500 in his career as a head coach and over .500 in the playoffs.

How do other non Packers fans view Aaron Rodgers? He is obviously a great QB, most likely the best in the league right now but he also always seems to have such a chip on his shoulder all the time and seems kind of petty at times. Seems like to this day he is still super pissed about falling in the draft. I guess that drives him to be great. His post game comment about God being a Packers fan as a dig at Russell Wilson seemed petty and Wilson made Rodgers seem worse by responding in such a polite way.

I think Rogers was definitely poking fun at Wilson. I think his point was God doesn't care who wins football games and he also addressed this last year after Wilson said something to the affect like God helped the Seahawks on final drive to win the game. Roger has stated he is a Christian, he just keeps it to himself.

I handle claims for a living and I can tell you whenever I call someone and their VM has a bible verse or says have a blessed day, I cringe, because they are generally the worst people to deal with. I have been doing it long enough to where it is a pattern.

This is actually an interesting thing to ponder. God works "all things". The bigger plan(s) is mankinds salvation plan, and Gods glory. So whether in victory or defeat, God works it to the overall good. Ie, God always flourishes, and, Gods word never returns void. On the other hand it's not impossible for God to bring victory for specific people. The bible is full of such occurances.

Ha and the no call on the penalty had to just make it that much worse. When I saw him push the ball out live my first reaction was that that was a penalty but there was no flag and the announcers werent talking about it so I was questioning myself or thought maybe they just missed it, no biggie. I did not realize at the time the penalty would have given the ball back to the Lions. I think the ref saying he didnt see it as intentional was BS, I think he just decidd himself the guy could have easily grabbed it and it would have been game over so he didnt want to change the outcome of the game. Talk about slippery slopes, refs need to call a penalty a penatly regardless. How many holding calls have been called on TD's where it had no impact on the play? Are refs going to start no throwing those flags?

Oh and its official the Saints kicker f'ed my 9-1 week in my confidence pool against the spread. Went 8-2 and only finished 3rd costing me a difference of $105. I expect a check in the mail for him. Should I send a letter to the Saints?

30 rules? They need to be well versed in a rulebook that is over 70 pages long, with dozens of obscure rules of which people aren't really aware exist. One of my favorite stupid rules is a penalty being called on a punt returner who calls for a fair catch but then blocks someone, personal foul call. I don't give the ref a pass on the blown batting call (I thought something was hinky about it when it happened, but when it wasn't called I didn't think any more of it), they have one job, and it's to know the rules back and forth. Detroit got jobbed.

He knew, because I knew. I have seen that called at least a handful of times. Usually it is a more blatan batting/swipe that is because it is in a crowd, this was definitely unique, the player obviously didnt know the rule or he would have just grabbed it.

What do you know? The Giants didn't win by even close to 100! Only 14 points, and the Bills had two TD's called back on penalties. More impressively, the Bills are on pace to break the NFL all time penalty record - by 40%. We are fouling machines!!! (Thank you Rex.)

When did punt returners start taking fair catches as deep as the 6 or 7 yard line. That just seems like a bad move to me.

The old rule of thumb was to put your heels on the 10 yard line, and let anything over your head ... sail into the end zone.

About 8 - 10 years ago, someone decided the 5 yard line was best, because punters began to put the ball inside the 5 on a regular basis. I agree it seems like a bad move, especially as close as the defenders can get to a returner. I remember screaming at the TV early in Marvin's tenure here in Cincinnati about his very issue. He explained in his press conference, they now tell punt returners to field anything outside the 5 yard line.

Especially if its a short punt anyway and there are already 4 defenders ready to catch it their themselves if you dont.

If you ever were in denial that the NFL isn't rigged, watch the replay of end of last night's game. What a farce the League has become. The Lions winning that game was never in the script. It's no better than the WWE.

Wait, the NFL somehow forced Johnson to fumble on the 1?

Lions didn't get jobbed or screwed. Blown call that resulted in exactly what would have happened had the defender just let the ball bounce out like it was going to anyway.

Lions should be pissed about putting the rock on the ground at the 1 yard line in a 3 point game with less than 2 minutes to go.

I'm not even a Lions fan and I think I was more pissed about their loss than Calvin was. If I was a Lions fan that would have pissed me off to see.

Now I know these guys shouldnt have to act like it is the end of the world when they lose and it is fine to shake hands and say ho to other players but for some reason I just cant see guys like Tom Brady exchanging his jersey after a loss. As much as I'm not a fan of Brady at least he is a guy you know really cares about winning and is pissed when he doesnt. That has to make you feel good as a fan.

Do you really believe this?

It's not that far off. This is a league that has grown simply because of two things:

1. America's love of violence
2. America's love of controversy

Any controversy helps drive this league. There's always something surrounding this league that you start to begin to think are they flaming the fires of a story line that they script out.

It still blows my mind that the league's viewership continues to grow. The NFL is a cancer that keeps growing, and there is nothing that will stop it. But don't think for one instance this league is a farce when it comes to true competition.

Damn skippy I do. The league has no integrity anymore. It's all about media attention. Goddell and his crew absolutely loved Deflategate and the daily coverage it got on national news. Scandals make the league relevant even when games aren't being played.

Both Caldwell and Stafford just shrugged their shoulders at the occurrence telling everyone it's okay to push us around. That is two garbage calls that probably cost us the game in two of our last five games(One being the playoffs). But apparently it's no biggie. Pathetic. BOSTON (CBS) — If this is indeed the end for Peyton Manning, it may be even uglier than we thought.

While the product on the field has been difficult to watch (nine touchdowns, 17 interceptions), it has apparently extended off the field, too.

According to NFL Network’s James Palmer, with Manning not playing this week due to what the team is calling a left foot injury, the future Hall of Famer has not even been near his team or coaching staff this week.

Manning “hasn’t attended any practices or meetings this week and hasn’t had a single conversation about Sunday’s game plan with Brock Osweiler,” according to Palmer. Mark Haas at CBS Denver has reported the same.

“His focus is 100 percent on treatment and getting healthy,” Palmer said.

Washington could potentially play back-to-back games in London if they finish in the same spot in the NFC East as the Rams do. There's also going to be saber-rattling here because the Rams lose a home game and would actually be in violation of their lease at the Edward Jones Dome.

And Herm is terrible? Dude, you're terrible. Herm's actually done something in life.

Obviously I dont know him as a person but he was a pretty bad football coach and is a bad analyst. I'm pretty tired of the whole shtick of hiring flame out coaches and bringing them on and acting like they are awesome and calling them "coach" (ugh no you were fired and you work for ESPN, you are no longer a coach) and pretending like they were so successful.

Wouldnt you love to be fired from your job and going to another company were you got to talk about that job and critique people who currently have that job and have your current job build you up as this expert in your field?

Now as a player he was pretty good and played I think around a decade.

My Cleveland Browns stink...much more than usual.

My only, and last, contribution to this thread.

Crap! You beat me to it. I was going to post that in the words of MOR, the Browns are an abject failure. Well, I suppose it did it anyway. In any event this too is my last contribution to this thread. Carry on others with real NFL teams to root for.

Damn, I'd forgotten all about Honey Badger. Having a nice game for the Cards.

Honey Badger don't care!

More color rush jerseys tonight. Gross, especially the Rams.

Couldn't Tampa Bay at least bring back their old orange creamsicle jerseys if they're going to pull a stunt like this?

I think its more of an NFL/Nike thing than a team thing.

Giants blew way too many opportunities. Beckham drops a 50 yard wide open TD pass. DRC drops an easy pick 6.

Bad teams blow the opportunities given. The Giants are a bad team, a bad defense that cant make any stops when needed. The number 1 culprit is their general manager, but he wont be the one to take the fall.

Bengals clinch playoff spot.
Strange factoid of the day about McCarron:

He became the first former `Bama player to win an NFL game as the starting quarterback since Jeff Rutledge for the Giants on Nov. 15, 1987, according to STATS.

Good. How quickly can they clean out that idiot's locker?

So glad I gave my tickets up before this season. What a continual 5 alarm Dumpster Fire.

I read they couldnt cut him for 5 weeks, but I didnt see why that is exactly.

I think I heard that it's part of the collective bargaining agreement. No roster moves can be made for a stated length of time after the season ends.
