Happy 4th everyone. Nothing like a holiday widely celebrated with beer and explosives! Hey, what could possibly go wrong with that???

If we didn't have the 4th of July, we would be Canada.

I kinda like Canada.

Canada didn't fight a civil war that lost more people than every other war combined. We did

Great for us. We have a legacy of killing one another! Go Us!

We are the only country that fought a civil war over Slavery. Everybody else just got rid of it.

If we were still in the realm of the British Crown, slavery would have been outlawed in 1833.

So we would have no civil war, and slavery would have been done three decades before.

Thank God we are not Canada!

Well, you can do whatever you want to us, but we're not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America. Gentlemen!

I actually have something here that some people may actually appreciate!! It's Jean Shepherd's 4th of July movie. Everyone has seen and knows about a Christmas Story, but what most people probably don't realize is that those characters were in a series of books and movies prior to A Christmas Story coming out. A word of warning, Ralph is a teenager in all the other movies. A Christmas Story is the only one where he's a younger kid, so it's a little different, but it's the same format. If you haven't seen it, enjoy....

So, Jason Pierre-Paul apparently rented a U-Haul to move his truck load of fireworks, and it was not a happy 4th for him. He has reportedly lost part of his hand when things went wrong. Did I mention alcohol (or old fashioned natural stupidity) and explosives are a bad combination? He has a pending Franchise tag offer, but no idea what will happen with that. Sticky wicket.

I know this is tragic, but it's so bizarrely stupid that it's almost impossible to not make light of it. When I read this, I can't help but think this could have been prevented.

Shockingly, alcohol was involved! Who would have guessed that?

I've never heard a great story begin, "I can't believe how many waters I drank last night!"

Even without alcohol, expect the unexpected when it comes to fireworks!

I hung out with Mormons on the 4th, so my holiday was quite safe. The house two doors down from one of my co-workers burned down on the 4th, though. That's a bad day.
