I made the same mistake. Actually 8 years, but impressive nonetheless. Chris Mack with 3 tying for most of any XU coach.

13 NCAA appearances in 15 years.

That's pretty incredible! So proud of the team and what they became this year. Now they get to play Thursday with absolutely nothing to lose.

X has also won its last 5 "Round of 32" games (and 6 of last 7). I think most X fans would agree it should be the last 7.

It is what we do.

Also, my kids are pretty F-ing spoiled. That is all they know. They don't know a Xavier that doesn't regularly go dancing to the Sweet 16.

So, I read there were 12 teams who had been in 4 of the last 7. I wonder, after today, how many can claim 5 of 8? It must be some pretty nice company.

Snipe's kids do sound spoiled. He should explain Skip and The Lost Years

Arizona has been 5 of the last 8 sweet 16's with 2 elite 8's as well.

That's apparently a pretty Buick like performance.

Me too being from the class of 2012, LETS KEEP IT THIS WAY!!!!

This might be premature, but since we've gone Sweet 16, does that clinch that we will play Ohio State in the "Dave Gavitt Challenge" next season?

Curious to why you think that?

Maybe I'm cynical, but I just can't see that happening. I don't see Thad letting it happen. I don't see Chris wanting it to happen. I'd rather see us play our fellow Sweet 16 team, MSU.

TV would absolutely love it though. And why wouldn't Chris want it? He has zero connection to Toucan. We aren't afraid of anybody.

I have no facts to back it up, just a feeling I have. Could be completely wrong and he'd relish the chance.

There are only 15 meaningful games left in the College Basketball season....and we are still playing in them.

I love this. No, it NEVER gets old.

Apparently we've played our way into the strongest bracket left.

So...we'll just have to run over the Raccoon.

So, how many schools can join us as playing in 5 of the last 8 Sweet 16's? That's some pretty nice territory.

Definitely rarefied air, although Louisville has been to four straight and I think Michigan St has like 6 in the last 7 or something crazy.

I'm very glad to have those programs as company. It helps to make the point.... flukes are not allowed in the club.
Having said that, the bracket just got a tad bit more difficult.

@JayBilas: The Sweet 16 is made up of 14 teams from major conferences and 2 teams from mid-major conferences (Gonzaga, Wichita State).

But not on that list, although they have a walk-over to the Elite 8 this year. No diss, just fact.

Damn. All the fun to watch teams are gone.

Nothing left but just boring, workmanlike.....and good basketball.

What's a fan to do?

I really, really want Jalen, Matt, Dee, Myles, and Trevon to be "on" Thursday night. I want some of that magic I've seen other teams have to find its way to X in L.A. It has been 11 years since I last experienced that kind of magic (see X vs. #1 and undefeated St. Joe's in Dayton) and while I have experienced some great seasons since then, we have also experienced pain (Duke, Ohio St. come to mind).

Play loose, play together, play with purpose. This is Jalen's chance to live up to the promise he made. Get us there. Let's go X!!

What am I missing here?

Mack has 3 S16's ('10,'12,'15)
Miller had 2 ('08,'09)
Matta had 1 ('04)

Mack has over 1/2 our S16 in the last 8 years.

Gosh, Paul, you're right. I really have to clean up my act. I guess I keep thinking that that Ron Lewis heave never happened.

CMack now has the most Sweet 16's in program history. Pete had one in 1990.

I saw that kind of magic on Saturday when we shot 81% from the field in the second half.

Can't expect that to ever happen again. Let's hope we can play close to that level on Thursday, and steal a win from Arizona.

How many teams have had this many sweet 16's in the past 8 years? It can't be many. I have tried to look for such information, but without combing through the sweet 16's for the past 8 years, I haven't found anything with this information.
