View Full Version : Best Dunk in Xavier History??

We have had some great ones, this is one of the best in game dunks I can remember.
Dee to Jalen for the exclamation point...

D Brown posturizing the Indian player has to be up there. I also think he broke the net on the dunk as well.
Dez had some insane alley oops from Mark Lyons.
The underrated part about Jalen's play was that he grabbed the turnover and had that nice spin to get out of traffic.

I am quite impressed with the dunk, it had me on my feet screaming. Disappointing though was the announcer, we got Whoa,,, from whatever that FoxSports guy was.
Remember that we are accustomed to greatness, "Do It BJ Do It" and Andy Mac's about UC being number one in the country but not in their own city.
Anyone listen to the radio broadcast? What did Byron and Joe come up with? I'm sure that they could see it coming.

It was a pretty awesome dunk. Ended up #8 on SC top 10 and #2 on FS1's "The 1".
Another memorable dunk that sticks out to me is Derrick Brown's dunk against IU in Chicago.
I think Derrick Brown's was more impactful in the game, but I think I like Jalen's better.
I am still admittedly caught in the emotion, but I liked that Jalen was following hard on his own steal and that it wasn't just your typical alley-oop. Off the backboard with a guy trailing Dee to form a nice little sandwich... that was fun! Usually the guy about to be posterized sees it coming. This had unique style points (and my kids will tell you, I"m not a huge fan of dunks).

Loved the dunk yesterday, but not better than the Derrick Brown dunk against #8 IU. That dunk was sick and it set the tone for that game, that season, and the program for the next four years.
http://youtu.be/qTZ9iIeA_qU
Two funny things in that video:
1. It starts showing the IU huddle with Jordan Crawford in there
2. Dang it Stanley Burrell gets me pumped up just watching his reaction! Dude played with such passion!
Hope Jalens dunk provides the same catapult for this team as Derricks did for the 07-08 team. Man Derrick could sky!

That play might not have been one of the best dunks I've ever seen, but I agree with the previous posters that the entire overall play puts it up there for consideration. Jalen with the long rebound, passes to Dee who takes it up the floor while Jalen follows to setup up the dunk. Great hustle by Jalen, and awareness by Dee to know that Jalen was back there.
I was in 202 behind the basket, so it was a great angle to see that play throughout. Awesome dunk.

If the Posey dunk against GW was when the lights went out in The Gardens than that is number 1 for me as well. I thought it was against LaSalle but it's been so long ago and The Gardens has such cheap beer that the memory of who it was against is pretty hazy. Regardless of who it was against, it was the best dunk I've ever seen - or not seen. When the lights came back on he was still hanging from the rim.

Along those lines, (I just can't help myself) there was a guy from my floor at Brockman freshman year who was a great guy but such a dedicated student he rarely joined us at Dana's. One night he did and we had a great time until he announced he was leaving early. We later found him on our walk home.... sleeping on the railroad tracks! That falls somewhat short of drinking responsibly.

Can totally one up that, a while ago my roommate gets blacked out and is at Mount Adams, I get a FaceTime from him and it ends up being a police officer that said can you get your friend right now or he's going to jail. I arrive to him trying to break out the windows in the back of the cop car. It was a very interesting night to say the least.

Since MOR & I initially nominated that play, I just do not know how the description can be called "windmill" but rather a reverse over the head move is more apt Aaron received the ball on the right baseline a step or so outside the lane. He dribbled BEHIND HIS BACK ( remember he is 6'11") to elude --I think Albert Chaney -- steps into the lane going left where Alan Henderson slides over to defend (IU all time shot blocker then) jumped straight up and while facing directly away from the hoop and flushed it down over his head w/ both hands.
The ABSOLUTE best part of the play: A Train reacted in prototypical fashion and sauntered down the court for the next sequence. No flex, no pose, no scream, no pointing, etc. If Jalen and Aaron could beget male offspring with each other's sisters, we might find 2 perfect bigs.
I need to nominate 2 other dunks for at least honorable mention. One from the old MCC days was against Orel Roberts at the Gardens. Game/conference standing at stake. ORU playing 2-3 zone with the Acres brothers on the back line. Ralph Lee at the point throws perfect no look alley oop from the top of the key to Jeff Jenkins cutting parallel to the baseline behind the defense for the slam.
Also & I swear this is not embellished happened @ UD; I think Jamal Walker was freshman but he filled the right wing on a classic 3 on 2 fast break, took a sharp pass and tomahawked. Try to name an XU player 6'/under who dunked.

I was at that game as an 8 year old. My dad, 3 cousins, and 4 uncles scalped tickets. A few minor notes. 1. *Calbert. 2. Henderson was coming off an ACL injury. It was his second game back. I think he only played 10 minutes or so. It doesn't diminish the dunk or make anything you said false, but provides a little context.
Bold part. Mark Lyons. I know he was listed at 6'1" or 6'. I am 6'1" and was at least 3" taller than Mark.
