View Full Version : Are we STILL booing our own.

Dee threw up a stinker. I get that. But did I hearing booing after the shot? Can't we just grow a pair and resist every silly impulse that comes into our mind before it leaves our lips.

The student section is fantastic this year. Love it.

Not that I would ever boo but Dee Davis drives me nuts with his bonehead decisions. It is maddening. And with his career even 12 assists and great defense can get overlooked. Just can't trust him. I hope he proves me wrong this year.

I didn't hear any booing but I have to agree with others that Dee can drive you nuts at times. Alot of his poor decisions look like "freshman-like" mistakes and he should be well passed those by now. On another note, it was nice to see Mat and Dallas Latos back in the house last night. With the rather frequent attendance of Reds and Bengals players over the past few years it is nice to think of X games as the place to be and place to be seen.

Yay. A thread telling other fans what to do and what not to do. I'm sure this is the one that will break the 1,473 thread streak of having zero impact on anyone's behavior ever.

I'm a little confused because the title of the thread is worded in the form of a question, but there's no question mark. Then no one even attempts to answer the non-question question.

So I guess I'll be that guy:

I think what the front row of the student section should do is wear white sweatpants, make yellow stains in the crotch region, and have a sign the says, "if peeing your pants is cool, consider me Myles Davis."

That's what the fans should do.

The first time Dee had a WTF moment I looked up at the board and saw he had quietly put up 9 assists already. No one was booing from my section. Some people may remember David West once missed a shot.

(It was still a WTF moment, but nobody is perfect!)

There was definitely booing. I was a little shocked to hear it. I do not boo our team, and some of the people I was with thought the crowd was booing the refs, thinking they missed a call on the Dee shot. Regardless, it was a pretty bad decision.

Yes, he made some boneheaded plays. He also had 9 pts., 2 rebounds, 3 steals to go along with the 12 Assts. I'd take that line the rest of the year.

Some forget this guy is basically learning to play with half a team he's never worked with before. He was out for Brazil and a lot of the pre-season and he's not going to suddenly transform into PG of the year. Give him a break. He has steadily progressed and will have a great year. Besides, who else you gonna play there, and when they get 4 asst and 3 pts with 6 to's, will you boo them too?

Dee's line was great. No doubt. And he was obviously a significant net positive. I think the only reason it's a discussion is because his boneheaded plays were REALLY boneheaded, and so they weren't particularly forgettable. On the other hand, they are the types of plays that easily can be cut out; I'd be surprised to see very many of those going forward.

Booing the refs at Cintas Center is a time honored tradition. Xavier fans might be the whiniest fans in the country when it comes to officials. There is never a correct call against Xavier.

Not some of the shot attempts, but I also suspect some of the turnovers were due to SFA being a team that plays denial defense, trying to cut off passing lanes.

I thought about that too. But every turnover I can remember was a pick-off that I think just about every college team would and could have replicated. Maybe their defensive scheme created more of those opportunities but those would have been bad passes against Northern Arizona.

Booing would imply someone in the lower bowl was making noise during the game. From what I've seen the past 5 years, that would be impossible.

While we're at it (and to get it over with -fingers crossed- for the season) - an awful lot of you left early last night and even more arrived late. It looks terrible to the recruits and on television when no one is there for the national anthem. Get it together, people! Some of you complained about the people standing. Some of you complained about the people complaining about the standing. Some complained about the lack of noise from the lower bowl. Some complained about too much noise. Everyone loathes, with the passion of a thousand fiery suns, Fr. Graham. But, then again, not really. What am I forgetting?

Leaving early to beat that Cintas Center "traffic" (HA!) is the other time honored tradition at the Cintas Center. I am amazed when I see people leave early during even big games that are still close with just minuted left.

Here Here! I know Stephen F. Austin isn't a big game for the casual fan, but attendance was pretty poor the other night. Especially considering it was an 8 pm Friday game! I will say the student section has been very strong so far this year! I can't remember the overflow seats filling up for a games like LBS and SFA when I was there. Also I died laughing when some kid threw the ball onto the court. That shouldn't happen again, but it was pretty amusing.

It was an all-too-rare appearance for me Friday. Loved it and thought the student section was much better than my previous experiences (though one really weak event was during break). I was surprised by the number of empty seats around us in section 103 early in the game. And I will admit I was not as vocal as I probably would have been a few years ago, and that's something I will work on for future visits. As for booing, what I heard was reserved for the refs, and they deserved it. But isn't that always the case (regardless of what team you're rooting for)?

I'm going to confess. When Dee put up that dumb 1 on 3 shot when X was up by 7 with about 3-4 minutes left in the game and there was about 30 seconds left on the shot clock, and the crowd around me was yelling, "Hold up. Hold up", after Dee missed the shot I yelled, "Dee, what were you thinking?" But I don't not yell, "Boo." I guess I should have yelled, "Good try Dee. Go get 'em next time."

I will note that Chris Mack also yelled at Dee while point to his (Chris') head, "Dee, what were you thinking?"

Dee made some bad decisions last game. But he also had 12 assists. My guess is that X wins every game he has 12 assists.

Yeah. I'm ok with late. Life happens. But wait for a time out don't enter the row with players near the basket. And don't sit down for 60 seconds then get back up and head to the concession stand. That's just rude.

the arriving late, leaving early, sparse attendance is a by-product of our non-con which is why i have been consistently complaining about it since the schedule came out. Whether you like it or not, yes some people are going to be excited by the SFA Lumberjacks coming to town, but the majority are not. This is why I hope that the powers that be realize this, and actually schedule some name teams that get the casual fan excited about going to see a game before January. If they continue to schedule like this, Xavier is going to have attendance issues every single year until conference league play begins.

Our crowd is not exactly the most boisterous crowd in college basketball so couple that with the Stephen F Austin's and Murray States of the world and this is what we get. I'm not saying that those teams are bad in any way, but let's be real, big names is what gets the casual fan excited about going to a game.

At least the Dance Team performances are mercifully short. I think one week it was like 30 seconds tops. Shame is, there is probably at least one person on that team that thinks they do a great job and that people care.

Hate to break the news - but the promotions page has been updated for this season, and I saw Viking Magic on it. Them and a coupld jump rope acts. When I saw those I thought of XH Hoops for some strange reason. Speaking of halftime shows, I thought the Olate Dogs (camps of Americas Got Talent one season) were pretty good, at least a change up from the usual Frisbee Dogs (don't worry, they are also on the bill this season), what was the take on the gymanastics tumbling act we had Friday night?

I'm in the back row, on an aisle, so I get the luxury of exiting and entering when I want, and even then I generally won't do it. If the balls in play, keep the aisles clear. I think I've been to Reds games with a family of 6 in the middle of my row. Between restrooms and concession runs, I'm up and down more than at Mass it seems.

Back to the original topic - I thought the booing was directed at the three guys in zebra stripes. We all know Dee can be counted on for at least one really boneheaded play per game. At least he has the stats, aka 12 assists, to back it up.

This is exactly what I noticed too. There were no boos, but there were a lot of disgruntled fans, rightfully yelling, "C'mon Dee!" and "What is he DOING?" ... all legitimate comments, which were piling up after a series of similarly poor decisions.

OK, Dee had 12 assists. Great. The team also shot 57% from the field. He also left his man open by about 9 feet on a handful of defensive lapses and made no attempt to close the gap.

On the whole, I agree with most of the posters here who have said that he's generally a net positive for the team. My guess is that Mack told him to take more chances, force a few passes into tight lanes and create opportunities for the wealth of scoring threats around him.

As for Dee, let's not discount 12 assists. That's pretty damn good. He just needs to make better decisions.

Yeah. I'm ok with late. Life happens. But wait for a time out don't enter the row with players near the basket. And don't sit down for 60 seconds then get back up and head to the concession stand. That's just rude.

I agree! These people are generally the jack-in-the-boxes who are constantly up and down. I guess that's one way to work off the nachos, popcorn, beer and pretzels, but it's really irritating. It's one of the reasons I like that our seats are in the middle of the row now. Less constant up and down.

A couple of pro arenas I've been to won't let people enter from the concourse until play stops. I wouldn't be against it at the 'tas.

I agree 100%. Just wait in the tunnel until you hear a whistle blow.

Was it bad of me for booing the student athlete from Murray State when he took out(not intentionally) JP?

So if you have a 6:00 meeting, and it's a 7:00 tip, you would miss the whole game rather than just part of it?

There were many seasons that I didn't miss a game, and normally got together with my fellow season ticket holders to watch or listen to away games. That just doesn't happen anymore. Some might say I'm less of a fan. If that's the case, then so be it.

Boooooo!

I like to boo Kahns Krazy when he is not in attendance. He was a bigger fan. Every home game, every away game meeting up, and every coaches show. He had an impressive run.

I like to spread rumors about him when he doesn't show up. Tonight I told people that he was in Ferguson setting stuff on fire in the name of social justice. Then he looted the Toys R Us because Christmas is just around the corner and nothing says Social Justice like Grand Theft Auto.
