If anyone can actually tell me what happened, go ahead. It does involve Bo Boroski (who is a "fan favorite" on this board). Sounds like he won't be officiating any Big Ten games this year.

Here's ESPN's story, which is marginally better (link (http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/11792191/college-basketball-referees-disciplined-accessing-unauthorized-information-per-sources))
A source told ESPN.com that Boroski was found to have accessed his own game assignments. However, the same source said he was not obtaining sensitive information regarding other officials.
The Collegiate Officiating Consortium -- which comprises several conferences, including the Big Ten -- said in a statement to ESPN.com that the access issues were corrected and disciplinary action was taken against the individuals involved.
"The integrity of the officiating program is paramount, and we appreciate the cooperation of all involved throughout the process," the statement said.
Boroski told ESPN.com on Thursday that there was "no malicious intent" on his part.
"It was stupid," said one referee, who requested anonymity and will not work this season. "It fell in our lap, but it wasn't with ill intent. We're not computer hackers. We're kicking ourselves why we did it, but it fell in our lap."

When I saw this thread title, I was sure it had to to with the NBA....Probably how Joey Crawford mysteriously always shows up to ref games that seem to benefit the League's agenda- especially in the playoffs.
And, yeah. I'm a huge conspiracy theorist when it comes to the NBA- especially when David Stern was commish. The Tim Donaghy story was just the tip of the iceberg and, I'm convinced he was a sacrificial lamb to keep the wolves away from bigger stuff. Donaghy played the good soldier and did his penance while the rest of the shady stuff that goes on was left as is.
NBA= WWE

I'm sure you will change your tune now that you have LeBron. As the Cavs will get the benefit of NBA/WWE officiating from now on. I do agree that the Stern-run NBA was crooked. Whenever he showed up here in Indy he was booed mercilessly, and deservedly so, for the way he screwed the Pacers in the Brawl incident, that was instigated by the Pistons.

I have a tough time accepting that Ron Artest was "screwed" in that incident. But I agree Stern was crooked. Basketball officiating in general is the worst in any sport.

It really can be frustrating. You just hope they are consistent. The only thing that compares in my mind is an umpire who refuses to acknowledge the strike zone and instead creates his own version. That's nonsense.

And you would be wrong. I would prefer that Cleveland win a championship in a somewhat less errrrrrr, "controlled" league.
As Led Zeppelin expressed: "The Song Remains the Same".

A lot of people think they already got the WWE benefit by three straight number one picks. I disagree but can see an argument. I try not to look to deep and just enjoy the game. Ignorance, I suppose.

I'm still trying to figure out what it is that these officials did wrong that got them in trouble.

They illegally accessed a database that included all of their coworkers pay information.

That seems bad.

But, what's interesting is that most of this kind of information is common knowledge. The bigger conferences I'm sure pay better than the smaller ones. Not sure what these guys were thinking? Especially the Big 10 guy. What was he hoping to learn...how much Horizon league refs get paid?

They were hoping to learn where their assignments for the upcoming season are, or at least that's what I've got out of the articles I read.
I think they were trying to look to see what games they were booked for, but when you illegally access a database containing employee pay in order to do that it's a big no-no.
