This is just. I can't find the words. I will just settle with unbelievably awesome.
Why on Earth would they pick Cintas over the Mecca of college basketall that is 5/3 though? Just shocking. Suck on that, sUCks.
Hopefully there will be an opportunity for season ticket holders to purchase in advance of general public...

You all are making a big assumption that LBJ will play....or even DWest. Vets, especially older ones like DWest, don't like pre-seasons games much.
In saying that, still pretty cool.

They typically play 5 to 10 minutes, if they are feeling 100%. Still really cool though.

DFW and LBJ will play the whole game and DFW will drop 47 and 18 for old times sake.
There's only one King at the Cintas Center, and it isn't that queen Lebron James.

It would be nice for DWest to be able to point to the rafters after a Pacers win and let Lebron know that it's West's jersey hanging up here. They should also play video of Crawfords dunk on LeBron just for fun.

Unfortunately Lebron has already had the CIA dispose of all footage of Crawford's nuts in his mouth. But the legend will always live on.

Some new info in the Cincinnati Enquirer...
http://www.cincinnati.com/story/sports/special%20sports%20report/2014/08/19/xavier-looks-forward-to-hosting-cavs-pacers-oct-15/14301809/
Cintas Center looks forward to hosting LeBron James-led Cavaliers along with welcoming back former XU standout David West with the Pacers.
The King may be in the Queen City Oct. 15.
Of course whether LeBron James and his star teammates play or for how long in the Cleveland Cavaliers' preseason game against the Indiana Pacers remains to be seen.
But, the Cavaliers are expecting a significant turnout at Xavier University's Cintas Center for their home game at a neutral site – the fourth of seven preseason games this fall for the team. Cintas Center's capacity for basketball is 10,250.
Ticket information has not yet been announced.
Xavier athletic director Greg Christopher told The Enquirer this afternoon Xavier season ticket holders will have an early opportunity before tickets go on sale to the general public....
VERY GOOD NEWS!!! :perfect10:

I agree I'm most excited to D. West.
That said seeing Lebron in Cintas will be pretty great. Could very well be the greatest player I ever get to see play in my lifetime.
It was great seeing McDermott come into Cintas last year. The odds of us getting another 3,000 point scorer in there are slim.

Having seen many Pacer games the last 3 years, D West get more and more cranky each year. That said, I imagine he will be in a really good mood for this particular game.

I'm getting tickets through my brother who is a long time Cavs season ticket holder, and his guy in their ticket office just emailed him to say this about us getting 4 tickets.
"We will have a (season ticket holder) member pre-sale for the games in Columbus & Cincinnati - the announcement will go out TOMORROW September 3. The ACTUAL pre-sale for members should be between Sept. 8th-11th, and will resemble a concert pre-sale, first come first served."
I am assuming the NBA season ticket holders will get first call to tickets, so the actual sale to Xavier fans and the general public will follow shortly.

Yes, because everyone in the NBA holds those out of town preseason games in such high regard.
I doubt either LBJ or DWest play any meaningful minutes in this exhibition game, let alone care enough to taunt each other about the results.
Those that haven't seen a preseason NBA game should expect about the same showing as you would see in a NFL or MLB preseason game. Anyone who has seen any pro preseason game would tell you those games are absolute crap and its a shame they charge full price for any of them.

NBA preseaon typically doesn't charge full price. It was only like 15.00 to go to the game at us bank last few years.
for preseason football i've only ever scalped tickets before and those were insanely cheap...but of course the product is subpar

While you pretty much cannot give NFL preseason tickets away, you do have to pay full price as a season ticket holder to the last penny for those two worthless games. It's the biggest reason the owners won't reduce the preseason without extending the regular season.

I don't think so, because tickets went on sale an hour earlier for X season ticket holders than they did for Cavs season ticket holders....I say this because my brother was supposed to help me get some tickets through his Cavs season tickets and I haven't heard a thing from him yet. I logged in right at 9:00 am and had to wait 20-25 min while it seached for tickets. I tried for lower bowl but they must have been gone already. I was then given 2 in Section 208 only to be kicked off site as I was completing order. Reading the article it said Xavier was given 3,000 seats to sell to season ticket holders and donors. Those were sold out in 10 minutes Monday. Today 900 student tickets were on sale. The line was wrapped around Cintas Center.
That sill leaves over 6,000 seats. Who knows how many got nabbed by Cavs insiders.
I glance at the resale market shows about 500 seats ended up there.

I get that, but ticket holders clearly have some or else there would be more than 3,900 tickets.
There is a lot of walk up sales in the NBA, especially for a pre season game. As a Pacer fan and an X fan, I have no desire, to drive to Cincy and back for a dreadful exhibition bball game. Plus when you've seen West and LeBron slug it out the last two years in the Eastern Conference Finals, an exhibition game is not all that appealing. But it should be fun, so enjoy, I'm sure West will have a good time, he may even smile.

Nah. Fred McLeod on play by play and Austin Carr on color. Cavs regular announcers.
Carr isn't great, but he is the former Notre Dame All American, is the Cavs leading all time scorer, and has his jersey retired. His color commentary is basically nothing more than typical catch phrases and cliches.

In person, I felt the floor was rather underwhelming. It looked OK, but just wasn't something you would really notice. It might be better on TV though.
And the game was fun. After West scored the first basket on the game in an isolation play, yelled out "Use him like Waleskowski!" A few people got it, but it was more for my own personal entertainment.
And yes, I wore my David Freaking West #30 jersey. Second time I've worn it in 11 years. Only a few fans recognized it, sadly.

Only complaint would be the concession stands running out of hot dogs and my dad waiting the entire second quarter to get 4 hot dogs for those of us that were there. He did get a free soft pretzel out of it so he has that going for him, which is nice.
Also, I have been to other sell outs at Cintas but this one felt more crowded. Not sure why. Anyone else feel that way?

Interesting that you brought that up. Some friends and I were talking about that during half standing behind section 211. After the game I got stuck in a cattle call due to a Cavs souvenir stand that had been set up in a corner next to a bathroom walking towards the front. Bad location when there are hundreds of people leaving at the same time. I never tried the concession stands but it sounded like they ran out of everything. I don't know how that happens when it was known for over a month that the game would be sold out. It was cool seeing DWest play in Cintas again and just as cool seeing King James in the flesh.

It was just a preseason game, but it wS great exposure for the University in a sense other than the usual college stuff.
There have been more Xavier mentions in the Plain Dealer in the last two days than X us usually gets up here in six months, and FSNO did a superb job in giving Xavier lots of compliments and pointing out, at one point, how many multi-thousand point NBA scorers X has produced. Fred McLeod, the Cavs play by play guy, really went out of his way to mention Xavier related stuff. ESPN was there covering the game and there was some SportsCenter coverage.
Free, positive exposure. Can't pay enough for that.

So glad NBATV picked up the FoxSports broadcast, was great to see the Cintas Center packed! And awesome to see D West back in action!

It was Pregame at 6:30 and rather low key. They honored her at midcourt, and talked about our long streak of graduating every senior.

Just got back to Louisville from being up at the game. Very enjoyable time.
Doesn't surprise me at all. I'd guess that the season ticket holder no-show rate, even for "big" games is fairly significant at Xavier games. The price of one ticket relative to a season ticket package is pretty low, and if something else comes up, it's relatively easy to justify missing one game. If there are 7000 season ticket holders, and each one misses an average of one game a year, that's nearly 500 empty seats every game. For this game, everyone that bought a seat bought it for this game, and there's not another one next Tuesday if you miss this one.

My wife and I both wore our #30 Jerseys, and some "youngsters" tried to buy them from us. When they asked us "where did you get those" it made me feel a bit old to tell them "I got them here - 12 years ago".

It was very Cavs heavy...which was kinda a surprise sense it seemed like X had 4,000 tickets. Granted I bet a lot of X fans/students went for the Cavs. Was cool to see LeBron on Xavier's court.
I can already tell how annoying Cavs fans and Bandwagoners will be this year. I was at the Cavs preseason game at US Bank like 3 years ago when Irving was a Rookie and there was less than 3,000 people there. Where were all those fans then? Cuz they've always been Cleveland fans right?

And that merchandise stand behind secgtion 103 - the portable Cavs Team Store was doing an absolute killing last nght.
Being a Pacer fan, it is my experience that NBA fans do all of their eating and drinking during a game. I have been to games where people are up and down the whole freaking game getting food and beers. Considering the price of NBA concessions, you need a mortgage to eat and drink at a game. Maybe the 'Tas prices were such a bargain, people stocked up on food & bev.

This is rich. "Annoying Cavs fans and Bandwagoners" . Brother, The Cavs have been abjectly horrible for 4 years. Their average attendance last year was 17,330 with an average ticket price of $43.00. Yeah, there could be some "bandwagoning from outsiders, and I'm sure the Cavs will be more popular overall, but don't even start with "annoying" or bandwagoning.
Would you call Kansas City Royals fans "bandwagoning" or annoying or is it just that you have this Cleveland hate? Last time I checked, Cincinnati doesn't have pro basketball so why not root for the Ohio connection? I root for the Reds when they don't play the Indians.
Yeah. We haven't had a championship up here for 50 years and, yeah, we want one desperately, but annoying and bandwagoning? You're way off base, friend.

I don't think bandwagon fans in Cleveland are what he was talking about. I'm in Cincy, and save a few people I know, no one has talked about the Cavs the last 4 years. Now, all the sudden, people are posting on facebook that they're ready for the NBA season, they love the Cavs, yadda yadda yadda. I guess if you don't live in a NBA city, you can change who you root for each season. I don't love or hate Cleveland, but I find people who just became Cavs fans to be annoying.

I don't know how many of these fans are "Cleveland" fans, and how many of them are "LeBron" fans? Not saying either is bad. Truth be told, if there is no Xavier connection, then I'm not really interested in any NBA team anymore. That was quite different when the Royals were still here in Cincy...I WAS a big fan then. But I root for all my "HOME" teams, and appreciate others that do the same for their "home" teams.

I said how annoying they will be. I wasn't too annoyed last night beyond a few people. Some of which were pacers fans.
Like I said what's annoying is that we AREN'T in Cleveland. One of my good friends was a partial season ticketholder for the cavs last 2 years, but now he can't afford to be because of everyone that's jumped on tickets after not having them since LBJ left. Like I said I can't stand the people that have just suddenly been Cavs fans, but I'm sure "they've always been cavs fans" except when they were awful the last few years. Like I said, there was 3,000 fans at the last Cavs preseason game I went to in a 15,000 seat arena. If all these cincy people were Cavs fans where were they there?
Not bashing true Cleveland Cavs Fans. But really there just weren't many of them at all in Cincy before last night.

Yes, particularly this one. Though I took my kids to just as many Royals games the last several years as I did this year. World Series tickets are in the $900 range for the upper deck, so I guess I'll have to pass.

I know I've made this argument multiple times before, but this is really just the nature of people in general. EVERY sports team has its bandwagon fans. Most of us are here because we are die hard fans of Xavier basketball, and it seems like most people here are typically your bigger sports fans in general. But we are in the minority. Most people are not as passionate about sports, or a particular team, and are not as distraught when their team loses or sucks (probably because they don't suffer from whatever sick condition it is that us die hards do.) Any team that has the best player in the game is going to gain lots of bandwagon fans. It's just how it works. There is not a single sports franchise or program in the history of the world that has a great fan base while having never been good, or at least having novelty. Everything starts off on a bandwagon. The historic, proud, successful franchises get credited for having the best fan bases usually, and that's not a coincidence. Some fan bases that have sucked for a long, long time (see my avatar) still have strong, loyal fan bases, because of the history there. But every single team that sucks long enough will start to lose fans, and every single team that gets good after sucking for awhile will start to gain fans. There are absolutely no exceptions to that rule. It's in the nature of a large percentage of the human population to be bandwagon. Enjoy the ride when it's fun and exciting and the town is having a blast, and let it all fade away without much damage to your mental health when things start to go poorly. It's just the way most people are.

Ok. I get it.
But, trust me. The last thing we are up here is "entitled" annoying or bandwagon. 50 years of nothing but disappointment makes you wary, but no less loyal.
Save the above adjectives (except for "bandwagon") for Boston fans.

Boston is actually one of the finest examples of the reality of bandwagon-ness. Do you know how badly the Red Sox struggled in attendance for so many years? In 2004, the Boston fans I knew stopped watching the Yankees series when it was 2-0, and then hopped back on for games 6 and 7. Boston has TONS of bandwagon fans. Sure, they have tons of good, loyal fans too. But if you're wondering why Boston has had such a strong reputation as a sports town, look no further than all the winning. Hell, the Redskins moved from Boston back in the day because they sucked and nobody went to their games. Had they been good, they probably never would've left. Every town has lots and lots of bandwagon fans.

Can't really disagree with anything PMI said. I guess when you frequent sports websites/watch hours every week its easy to forget that that is not the norm and we're all operating within the top 10-5% of our respective fandom or just sports in general.
Nice Fox Sports coverage of the game last night, mentioning DWest connection to Xavier.

The ones who are loyal are loyal, no doubt. The Redskins still somehow have the longest sellout streak in NFL history actively going, meaning there are still lots of diehard fans after decades of torture, but that doesn't mean you can't clearly see the enthusiasm nowhere near what it used to be as a whole. If the Browns ever got really good (I know, just roll with me here) you would have a bunch of the others jump on board, and then those "sellouts" would turn into actually full stadiums from start to finish. There's a running joke around here about our "sellouts," because even though we've technically sold out every game since the mid-60s, we all know how badly the stadium atmosphere and real home team fan attendance suffers when the team is awful.I'm sure the Browns games are fine times right now, since the team is still alive, but the true, loyal, lemming-like and stupidly loyal fans NEVER make up the entire fan base.

Attended the game last night. It was worth the price of admission.
I will echo the sentitment regarding the concourse. I have been to numerous Xavier games, and it was definitely a lot more jammed than a Xavier game - even when compared to a UC/UD/Butler game. My theory is that many fans stick around their seats to watch the halftime performance and/or honoree at X games. Just wasn't the case last night. This was also the first major event of the school year. Generally, the concession stand opens up with a lighter crowd and operations are smoothed (supply, resources, etc.). Just struck me as a bit odd.
Nice to see LeBron play about 25 minutes.

Ya but ask any hipster from Wrigleyville... they LOVED the Cubs even before they moved to Chicago from Wisconsin.
Are Chicago Cubs fans the exception that proves these rules?
Absolutely not. Do you know how easy it is to get tickets to a random Cubs game lately? They have plenty of diehards of course, but again, they've had winning (albeit a long time ago) and more importantly history on their side. If the Cubs ever got really good, that part of Chicago would erupt. There is simply no fan base immune to bandwagon fans. That's not to say all fan base's are totally equal, but no one is immune to it.
