“I maybe shouldn’t say this, but I’m gonna say it,” Thompson said. “I’m miked for pre-game talk. So I tell the team, ‘Look fellas, the cameras are coming in.’ I said: ‘I’m gonna make up something to say, all right? We’re gonna sit here, let them stay with us for about five minutes, then we’re gonna kick ‘em out, then we’re gonna have our real talk. Don’t. Start. Laughing.’”

I agree with Thompson in that some team moments need to be kept private; quite frankly many pregame and halftime speeches are going to be NSFW.

But on the other hand, when Fox shells out $X million dollars per school for their Big East contract, there are certain concessions that are going to have to be made going forward.

My old friend Brian Kelly from Purcell Marian/Cincinnati Tech (now Cincinnati State) played for John Thompson/Georgetown from 1990-1992. He was roommates with Alonzo Mourning and Joey Brown. He started with Mourning his senior year after Dikembe Mutombo graduated. When I visited DC, he and Mourning were telling me about Thompson's Hoya Paranoia. I didn't believe it until some of us went to Pitt to see a road game and we were not allowed to know the hotel in which Georgetown was staying. Crazy stuff!!!

Most of the time, those pre-game speeches on camera look fake (for any team). If they're not my HS coach gave more meaningful speeches to get us fired up.
