Down 5 at the half. Okafor is going to Duke. #1 center and #1 player in the country.

He seems to be a really good passer (see half court outlet for fast break layup)

Sleeper in the 2014 class- Big body-quick feet-has some nasty- low post skills-one of the top linemen in the state in football-what else is there to say? He would eat Kenny Frease lunch.

Whitney Young won by two. Great battle between the two apparently.

Sounds like O'Mara really made Okafor a non-factor in the game. That's good news if he wants some minutes next season as we could use some defense around the rim.

Really? We're bashing Kenny in a comparison to a high school kid who hasn't stepped foot on campus?

In Kenny's defense, Kenny probably deserved this.

Poor Kenny. He was the whipping boy when he was here and he still is after he graduated. Give the guy a break. He and Tu were the reason we did well in the tourney his senior year.

Ok. That has me a little excited. Defense is the number one thing I like out of a center. It looks like he will be able to provide it sooner or later.

I also think people expected a double double every night from Kenny. The expectations people set for him weren't reasonable.

Really? Wasn't he one the highest rated recruits for X? I think 94Grad likes Kenny because of the business Kenny provided. :lmao: Kenny had his moments just not as many as he could have. It's fine.

He didn't always play as well as I would have liked, but some of the names he was called on here were just repulsive. And many acted as if he was entirely responsible for all of our woes. But, like I said back then and as I said on behalf of Martin this year, he was in good company with Dante Jackson and others.

That's exactly why the expectations were unreasonable. He was a higher level four star and people were expecting him to play like a five star, which is particularly unreasonable because centers tend to take longer to develop. He actually had a good freshmen season by the standards of his ranking, but the unjustified disappointment had already started. Now, his sophomore season was disappointing after a poor summer, which probably delayed his development.

He definitely was one of the highest rated recruits but that guy was a damn whipping boy for our fans. I just think he gets an unfair rap and I know that people disagree with me on this.

It only took him four years to get there.

Kenny went to the tournament all 4 years at Xavier. Did you go to the NCAA tournament all four years you were at Xavier?

Kenny had some off moments, but I really don't understand the negative vibe around him. The kid was a good college center. People tend to judge players based on how they live up to expectations thrust upon them instead of what they did. Because Kenny wasn't the 18/10 player people expected, they claim he was terrible. But if you just look at what he did - not what you projected he would do - then you'll realize he was a good player for X.

The worst thing I can say about Kenny is that he negated his size advantage by putting the ball on the floor too much.

He was a 7 footer, highly recruited, playing in the A10...averaging double double should have been an expectation. I guarantee you his coaches expected that.

Positioned under the basket following Saturday's 46-44 loss to Young in the Class 4A state title game, Benet senior center Sean O'Mara let out a deep breath after a grueling meeting with Duke recruit Jahlil Okafor.
The Redwings could have used a few more seconds Saturday at Carver Arena.
"Plenty of times they could've put us down, but we kept fighting back," Benet coach Gene Heidkamp said. "We just ran out of time."
O'Mara's tip-in sliced Young's lead to 44-42 with 22.2 seconds left, but Young senior forward Paul White made two free throws and Benet missed two straight shots before Liam Nelligan's basket right before the buzzer.
The 6-foot-9 O'Mara and 6-11 Okafor guarded each other most of the game, but the Redwings (25-8) often sent an extra defender to keep Okafor in check. Most of the time, Benet junior guard Colin Bonnett provided help-side defense. Okafor, the consensus No. 1 player in the country, was held to eight points and six rebounds after racking up 33 points and 14 rebounds against Stevenson on Friday.
"He's a tremendous player," O'Mara said. "He's the No. 1 player in our class for a reason. He played very well tonight. We double-teamed him, did different stunts and everything we could. He's incredibly physical. It's not often that you find players that you can match with a body like that. I know three kids in the state — me, Cliff (Alexander) and Jahlil. We're the only ones that can body up each other."
The Xavier-bound O'Mara finished with eight points, eight rebounds, three assists and two blocks. The Dolphins (28-5) scored 28 points in the final three quarters.
