Who did the least with the most talent? Mack, ThompsonIII, Lavin, Williams? I'll go with Lavin.

Do any of those teams have great "talent"....they're all very similar teams.

In order:
1. Lavin (tons of highly regarded players on that team)
2. Thompson (this is probably unfair as suspensions forced them to change midstream)
3. Buzz (3 straight Sweet 16s prior, picked first in preseason)
4. Mack (well, we all know these guys)

I'd throw in Frank Haith at Mizzou. Pre season highly regsrded team who tanked. (Yeah not Big East, but still)
In BE, Lavin...definitely, although Marquette was pre-season ranked 17 in AP.

I agree with Lavin. I remember reading about how good his recruits were going to be. Its hard to bank on recruits who haven't played against kids just as good or better night in and out. Also the lights of D1 ball seem to be too hot for some freshman at times and the pressure becomes too unfamiliar. With that though, Lavin just seems to be a fun guy to beat.

Chris is on another list of someone who had nothing due to the Dez/recruiting fallout from the desert raccoon's departure...this was his first year with his players. I liked what I saw. Still need shooters, but they are on the upswing and I'm glad to be an alumnus and supporter of this great University.
Big question, did Semaj's performance last night potentially alter his plans for the draft? Warren was obviously the best player on that court...Semaj had a pretty terrible game (7 TO's, some of which short circuited rallys).

I'm sure it altered scouts perception of him a bit. In what was arguably the most important game he's played in he had one of the worst games of his career.

If he comes out he would be a fool.

Toss up between Buzz and Lavin. I'd actually go with Buzz since that team was experienced and had high expectations. Lavin has talent but it is young talent which is always hard to predict. That said though, I do think Buzz is a much better coach than Lavin. I'd put GT3 third due to the suspensions on that team and Mack 4th.

No way Semaj can leave after a game like that. Teams have figured out how to defend him (Pack the lane). Until he can do something other than drive to the right of the lane he will not succeed in the NBA and absolutely won't be a 1st round pick. He needs to continue to become more confident in his 3 point shot to keep defenders honest. He seems to have a pretty decent stroke and has hit them when he takes them, but he passed up so many open 3's this year.
Oh and yeah Steve Lavin is an awful coach. He has so much talent with Jakar and Rysheed Jordan. I really wish X had been able to snag at least one of those guys. They are absolute studs.

Why are people putting Buzz at the top of the list? Is it solely because he was picked first in the league?
IMHO:
Stain > Gardner
Martin > J. Wilson
Semaj > Mayo
Philmore > Otule
Dee > or = D. Wilson
The only guy they have that has an edge an our comparable guys is Jake Thomas > M. Davis IMO.

Well Otule was a center who matched up with Stainbrook and Gardner was a PF that matched up with Philmore.
Stainbrook was obviously better than Otule but Gardner was way better than Philmore.

I'm pretty sure when Gardner comes off the bench a few minutes into the game he always replaces Otule who starts the game at Center.
There might be times where Otule and Gardner are on the court together, but most of the time I watched Marquette Gardner played the 5 when he was in.
Regardless, my list was less about comparing guys who play the same position and more about comparing the top players on the two teams.
However you want to slot the positions I still think we have much better players than Marquette did this past year.

Teams pack the lane because they know we couldn't shoot and that made Semaj even less effective. I sure would love to see him come back on a team that could actually make shots from 15 feet out.
Least with the most talent? Lavin
Least with the most expectations? Buzz
Agree and Agree.
