Losses on the road and wins at home are zeros. Losses at home are -1 and wins on the road +1.

Thoughts:

Villanova is an impressive 5-0 on the road so far, although Xavier, Providence and Creighton still remain on the road. Except for DePaul, they've played every other midpack team on the road already.

Seton Hall is better than their record would indicate in conference play, although that Butler loss is really going to sting. Still, they're the only team to score a win at Providence at this point.

Providence started out with 5 of 7 games at home, and they did drop a game at Marquette last night. If they can't win against a DePaul team that has now hit the rails, their quest for an NCAA bid is going to become harder.

IMO if we can hold serve at home and win 3 of the bottom 4 road games (we've already won one) a 12-6 conference record would be sweet. I believe we could do better, but our road trips have been tough so far.

I'm a bit worried about being pulled down into the pack of 3,4,5,6....need to win out at home and steal a few on the road...otherwise it could get ugly.

Updated home/away splits:

+5 - Villanova (W @ Butler, W @ Seton Hall, W @ St. John's, W @ Marquette, W @ Georgetown, W @ DePaul, L vs. Creighton)
+3 - Creighton (W @ Seton Hall, W @ DePaul, W @ Villanova)
+1 - Xavier (W @ DePaul, W @ Butler, L vs. Seton Hall)
+1 - Marquette (W @ Georgetown, W @ Seton Hall, L vs. Villanova)
0 - Providence (W @ St. John's, W @ DePaul, L vs. Seton Hall, L vs. St. John's)
0 - St. John's (W @ Butler, W @ Providence, L vs. Villanova, L vs. Providence)
-1 - Georgetown (W @ Butler, W @ DePaul, L vs. Seton Hall, L vs. Marquette, L vs. Villanova)
-1 - Seton Hall (W @ Providence, W @ Georgetown, W @ Xavier, L vs. Creighton, L vs. Villanova, L vs. Butler, L vs. Marquette)
-4 - DePaul (W @ Butler, L vs. Creighton, L vs. Xavier, L vs. Providence, L vs. Georgetown, L vs. Villanova)
-4 - Butler (W @ Seton Hall, L vs. Villanova, L vs. Georgetown, L vs. DePaul, L vs. St. John's, L vs. Xavier)

Both St. John's and Marquette have been moving upward of late - a win Saturday would begin to give Xavier some separation from the 6-team middle of the pack. The league now has 3 clearly defined tiers at the top, middle and bottom.

Villanova finishes the season with 4 of 5 games at home; their only road game remaining is at Cintas. Creighton still has to go to Xavier and Georgetown, so there is still a chance Nova could get the #1 seed for the Big East Tournament.

Nobody has been able to beat both Villanova and Creighton at home; if Xavier can manage to pull it off, they would have a good shot at the #3 seed.

I'd be thrilled (thrilled!) with getting 2 of 3 at G'town, SJU and SHU and splitting the two home games against top 10 teams. There's a pretty good shot that would net the #3 seed as well (possibly #4).

Ummm....yeah. I'd be quite satisfied with that result.

11-7 by any of the 5 teams that can still get to that record will guarantee them 3rd place.

With the W last night over horrible DePaul......lets not get suckered into thinking this team has been good or we should expect good results on the road.

Against good teams, we havent gotten it done.

Team needs to step up and win 2 of the 3 road games......

I dont think we can with both home games remaining.

I think 3 wins gets us into the dance regardless of what happens in the BE tourney

I think 2 more does that, but 3 removes any doubt.

3 wins means Seton Hall, then splitting St. John's/Georgetown and Creighton/Nova. Tough. Doable, but definitely tough.

Creighton is a runaway freight train right now. I just don't see us beating them, even at Cintas. Plus their fans travel well, so there could be about 4,000 Omahaians (is that what you call them?) crowding that place and trickling into our student section that will be away on Spring Break. And we will really need to sack up to beat Nova, who just bullied us in the second half in Philly. Will need grown man basketball from Xavier to be competitive in those games, which we have not seen a ton of as of late from this team, especially against the good teams in this conference.

Still can't believe our students will be away while Xavier plays two top 10 teams at home.

I can't remember a season when all the best games were played while students were on break. The schedule makers did them no favors this season.

There won't be anywhere near 4,000 seats for sale that could be purchased by Creighton fans!

Agree. If you are any sort of a Xavier fan, you should be in Cintas March 1st at 5:00pm. Perfect game time for traveling in and the place should be rocking. Creighton will be top 10 by then I would guess. Biggest game of the season.

I was exaggerating, but Creigton fans do (and will) travel quite well.

I'm not sure they'll be traveling in droves to Cincinnati. Despite what DC Muskie might tell you, Cincinnati is not quite the tourist draw that Manhattan is.

First, I'm potentially wrong about the site of Xavier's game against St. John's, and now I'm apparently overestimating Creighton's travel contingency.

Today is not my day.

I think it's one of those weird NCAA things where it doesn't count toward the RPI/SOS but it counts toward the overall record. Regardless, it's not that important. Conference record is important but overall record isn't that high on the list of tournament criteria. There's a solid correlation between 20/21 wins and a tournament berth, but it has a low causality. Getting to that mark just often involves meeting a lot of other tournament criteria.

I wouldn't worry too much about Spring Break. The arena is sold out (OK technically just short of sold out, as of yesterday this time). I know because I called to buy tix. All student tickets have been allotted and the lower bowl is full. The only seats left are corners and behind the baskets in the upper portions of the upper bowl. And even then they are mostly 1's and 2's. I saw the tweet about 120 seats. I just looked and couldn't count 50.

Incidentally, LA Muskie will be in the house for the Creighton game. Would love to meet y'all. I'll be there for alumni board meetings, but it also happens to be my 40th Birthday. So we will not be denied. You heard it hear first.
