Thought Wragge from Creighton killed us... he's started 7 for 7 from 3... 11 for 14 as a team at 10:21 in the first...

Dougie is just a minor part of their start, too. They're still due 20 more from him tonight.

They wish the NCAA started right now. You can't play any better offensively.

Creighton has made 14 FGs and 12 of them are 3s. That's tough to beat.

Funny, since it's not us this time. Probably less amusing to Nova. But what do I care...

13-0 run and you're still down 15. That's tough.

Thing with Wragge is he is standing 3' behind the NBA line, and then add on that he's about 6'-9". If he is going to shoot like this I think you have to play to totally deny him the ball.

This game is nuts, but it certainly is compelling television as far as a basketball game is concerned.

I can't wait to see who answers the bell during the second half.

How is it that Creighton fell out of the Top 25?
They really spread the floor and can all score.

That mini-run to start the second half was huge for Creighton. It's gonna be very, very tough for Nova to climb out of this hole. McDermott STILL is due 10-12 more points, so that will make it even tougher on Nova.

Same dumb ass voters that have UC @15 and Memphis still ranked.

Creighton is Top 10 good very easily.

In order to vote, you should have to pass a basic basketball IQ test. Really I'm serious. No way in hell they aren't Top 10.

Don't see em dropping more than 3 league games.

Should go in at worse as a 3 seed.

Creighton has been impressive tonight. Fun to watch a team that passes the ball so well. They are the best offensive team in the country. I know Villanova had some good wins early this season but they have no reason to be ranked this high. I would say both of these are top 15-20 teams in the country.

Their efficiency is beyond potent ... it's lethal. And on defense they are limiting Nova to one and done almost every time down the floor. Scary good.

Ok, with 6:35 to go, Nova has 50 points. Creighton had 54 at the half and is looking to improve on that in the 2nd half. I always remember that A10 tourney game against #1 St. Joe's where we blew them out but this is much worse.

Villanova is 15 spots lower than their actual ranking? You mean like UC should be ranked 15 spots lower than where they are right now? Same logic applies.

Aside from McDermett, I think Wragge deserves a look as there are not that many 6'9 guys that can shoot like him. Maybe not a 2nd rounder, but at least bring him to a summer league team and see if he can guard.

This coming from a UC fan who has 71 posts in the last month on a Xavier message board.

And he's not obsessed with YOU (emphasis added). He's making a point about your overrated team's ranking. That's about your team, not about you.

(The fact that you think he's obsessed with YOU is a little odd. And the fact that you're keeping track of Bleed's posts is also a little odd. For Bleed's sake, I hope you're not some kind of message board stalker).

So many things wrong here.

A. What grown up quotes a Mariah Carey song? Especially a Mariah Carey song not written in the 1990s? You're either 13 years old or Nick Lachey (the only UC fan I can think of that would troll an XU message board and care about a washed up, has been '90s pop star!)
B. You're an opposing fan on a XAVIER message board and you're throwing shade and calling people obsessed? Please. Go sell crazy somewhere else.
C. Who died and made you king of what's related or not related to the topic at hand in any thread?
D. There's an easy way to avoid Xavier fans on the internet. Don't go to Xavier message boards. It's hard. I know. But give it a try.

Might just have to deny him the ball. All he does is shoot threes, he won't drive to the hoop or anything. Someone just needs to stay in his face and not allow him to spot up.

Yup -- you play ball-denial defense on him, and step into his grill every time he gets the basketball (doesn't matter how far he steps behind the 3 point line).

The other two things you can do to generate a slight advantage is to needle him with contact at every opportunity in non-shooting situations (even if you pick up a few fouls). Prolific shooters tend to hate physical play (a sore rib from a hard box-out or other aching body part can throw off the shooting rhythm). Not saying you play dirty -- but you make sure that you take advantage of opportunities to play physical with him as much as possible.

Also, if you make him run as much as possible. If he's playing man defense, you run him back and forth on the baseline and don't let him have a minute on the defensive end to catch his breath. If he's in zone, you drive at him and force him to move and defend. You hope some dead leg sets in as he has to move constantly.

It's pretty difficult when every single one of them can shoot the three, I knew Creighton was good, but good lord, a 30 point blow out to another good team? There's absolutely no way Creighton isn't top 15 at the least, they can score in a hurry. Cintas is going to be interesting when they come into town, I think J-Mart on Wragge wouldn't be a terrible idea, he's long, could get in his face on the perimeter, and is a pretty good defender, I just don't know who would guard McDermott than, or even the guard who's name escapes me that had 19 tonight. Wow they are tough.

Creighton moved from 13 to 2 in the Pomeroy ratings after last night. Their adjusted offensive efficiency is 128.2 (roughly equivalent to 1.22 points per possession adjusted for strength of schedule). Pomeroy has been doing these ratings since the 2002-03 season and the highest previous offensive efficiency registered was Wake Forest in 2004-05 with Chris Paul. They finished at 124.0.

Their offense is not just great, it's historically great. They can win the national title this year.

They can -- but they're also exactly the type of team that goes cold from behind the arc and gets dumped in an opening round tournament game that busts every bracket from here to Nebraska.

They could well end up as a two seed, so I doubt that particular scenario happens. But yeah, they could hit snake eyes and get beat by a decent major conference team after a few games. It's going to take someone with a very specific player to shut McDermott down though.

zanesxu

when they're on, no question, they are nearly impossible to beat... defense can be mediocre though... we put up 89 on them (second highest total of our season to abilene christmas), and their adjusted defense is one spot below, at 81, than St. Bonnie... basically, you hope for an off night from their scorers (see bird flu vs. providence) and hang in the game long enough for them to get careless on d...

or we find Will Caudle... his defensive floor slap would throw off wragge's balance...

Second round flameout

No. 1 in adjusted offense in previous seasons:

2013: Michigan - National Runner-up, Louisville was 4th.
2012: Missouri - Hilarious Flameout, Kentucky was 2nd.
2011: Ohio St - Sweet 16, UConn was 18th.
2010: Duke - National Champions
2009: North Carolina - National Champions
2008: North Carolina - Final Four, Kansas was 2nd.
2007: Florida - National Champions
2006: Gonzaga - Sweet 16 (their defense was absymal - 186th in the country), Florida was 3rd.
2005: Wake - Second Round, Kansas 2nd.

In the last ten years, the #1 team in adjusted offense has won the title 3 times, made the final four 5 times. The eventual title winner was lower than 4th in adjusted offensive efficiency once, and that was UConn's out of nowhere run.

It's one of the more reliable indicators, at least in recent seasons.

It's also important to note defensive efficiency. Luke Winn of SI.com indicates that no team from outside the top 15 of defensive efficiency has won a national championship since 2003.
