Anyone have any update in terms of TWC/Dish/DirecTV picking up the channel? Not neccesarily worried yet, but the deadline is approaching. I've seen a few recent articles, but nothing more than an "agreements haven't been reached article."

What am I missing here?

The obvious distinction between a network well-established for decades and one that won't exist for another few days?

FS1 will have the backing of Fox and appears willing to suffer massive losses in the intial years. But over time, I think they will turn around. They're doing a good job of acquiring properties. I think the DirecTV/Dish/TW stalemate is posturing, and it may not be available this Saturday, but come college footbal season, I think agreement will be reached.

UFC is going to be a huge part of FS1 and this Saturday is a pretty big live event that Dana White has circled on his calendar ever since the UFC and FS1 announced a partnership.

Have to think Dana is going to be really unhappy if this event isn't available on Time Warner, Dish, and DirectTv.

I think that was Fox's intention; however, FS1 wants roughly $.80 to carry the channel, rather than the $.23 Speed charge.

Not going to lie. I do not know much about FS1 outside of the Big East deal. It puzzles me a little. Fox already has an extensive network (FSN) to air national broadcasts. So what's the purpose/plan for FS1?

I was not a fan of "The Best Damn Sports Show Period" and hope that FS1 doesn't follow the path of that show.

I believe FS1 and 2 are wholly owned by Fox, where as FSN is a group of smaller regional networks trying to work together with branding. Not really the same thing IMO. This new network will have a lot more backing for the type of programming it will produce.

I'm not sure how FS1 and 2 will effect FSN, but I'm hoping it means the FSN Ohio will actually step up its cover of Ohio colleges like Miami, OU, UC, KSU, etc. Reds, Indians, Blue Jackets and Cavs coverage will likely stay for a while. But I could see that programming moving over to FS1 and 2 more frequently.

I recently cut the cable and have been happy with just over the air, internet and Netflix. But it's not hoops season, so that may change. Hopefully, TWC doesn't block any potential online FS1 programming like they do with ESPN3.

Local pro programming will not move to FS1/2. The difference between regional FSN networks (i.e., Fox Sports Ohio) and FS1/2 is the same as the difference between FSN regional and ESPN. FSN regional will be largely unchanged. They will continue to show regional programming both college and pro. The only thing you may see on the FSN regionals is some filler programming that orginated on FS1/2.

Well I hope FSN Ohio gets better. It has been the most frustrating channel on cable to watch. I can't say how many times I've seen the middle of a baseball game jump to commercial (not at end of innings). And the business of not showing hoops programming that you've promoted you will be showing is too frequent. There is so much sports happening in Ohio and we so often see UCLA or Arizona games. That is sad.

GoMuskies

FSN had their Pac 12 deal, so those games were on every FSN affiliate across the country unless they had local coverage. On DirecTV I can watch those Pac 12 (and Big XII) games on about 50 different channels. If would definitely be nice for those games to be on FS1 or FS2 so that there's a little more variety on the 50 regional channels.

Fox isn't negotiating separate carriage agreements for FS2, they are simply replacing Fuel TV. Unfortunately that means no FS2 on Fioptics unless they work a separate deal.

Fox Sports 1 is not on the lowest tier DirecTV package (the tier has more than 140 channels). That's dissapointing. They are advertising as the next big-time sports network but ESPN and ESPN2 are on the lowest tier and Fox Sports 1 is not.

There are only 10 additional channels to upgrade to the next tier (include Fox Sports 1) but it's $10 more per month. I'll probably hold off from upgrading until the first Xavier road game.

But this deal you note doesn't make a lot of sense. I think I read that Fox is only getting $.23/month when they wanted $1.00, and ESPN gets $5.50.
To pay $10/month for Fox and a couple other channels seems like someone is really making out.

Yep, typical cable company BS. I'm due to call them anyway because whatever "credits" they gave me a year or so ago have all expired this month and my bill is $26 higher than last month. Bastards.

And to clarify, it may not be exactly 10 channels difference between the 1st tier and 2nd one. Their website says the 1st tier has 140+ channels, the 2nd tier says 150+; there's probably one or two that get added and dropped every now and then so they aren't giving the exact number.

Doesn't seem like I'd be missing much without FS2. Not an "extreme sports" or soccer guy. Sigh of relief.

I've tuned into FS1 Live the past couple nights -FS1's equivalent to Sportscenter - and I enjoyed the show. To me, it reminded me of the older Sportcenters when ESPN was more about the bantering between anchors (Patrick, Scott, etc) creativity, and not Tebow, Yankees/A-Rod, Lakers garbage. I like Onrait and O'Toole. Add a good degree of humor. They are converting me slowly, and once football and the Big East starts up, I'll cut ESPN off even more.
