3/20/13 - B.E. Day

I just went around the office taunting the DePaul grads.

I love my alma mater. It may have some warts, but overall it's one hell of a great place and I'm proud to have that degree hanging in my office!

I keep thinking of all those old threads that we'd have where people would put together their conference, thinking what a far flung exercise it was. Simply amazing where Xavier has come.

It is really incredible to think that I started as a freshman going to games at the Gardens, and now we're in the Big East. A lot of people have worked Xtremely hard to get us here - including the fans, students and alumni. We should all be very proud.

I think this is a 5-star thread. Maybe more.

I just punched my Marquette colleague in the face.

That's how we roll now.

Happy Big East Day everyone!

I remain flabbergasted at the benefits this move has reaped in just its second year. What many of us thought was becoming a disappointing season produced one of Xavier's best seeds ever and is shaping into one of the program's best years on record.

March On.

Overlooked Big East Day during the hoopla of last week. Despite the current gnashing of teeth, it appears the Big East has been a good move for Xavier, coming off a season with the program's highest poll rankings and tournament seed ever.

Belonging to conference with three members winning regular season invitational AND being one of those winners, 2 or 3 elite teams, over half the conference competing for a tournament bid. Pretty amazing situation for Xavier.

Ankle biting with George Washington vs. Slugfests with Georgetown.

This year it's sort of ankle-biting from Georgetown, but that sure beats the hell out of ankle-biting from GW!

You do realize GW is in the A-10 cellar with Fordham, right? They're much worse than the Hoyas this year.

Georgetown's biggest problem this year was playing a noncon schedule that was the worst in Division I at one point.

Yes, if you read my post (it's in English afterall), it's not unclear that it's much better to have ankles bitten by Georgetown than by GW.

Enjoyed reading this thread again.

Thanks for bringing it back.

Agreed on both points.

Did not realize Ackerman started without even an office or email. EVERYTHING infrastructure-wise went to the AAC with the football schools. The finances had to be run through Georgetown!!! And we survived anyway.

Big East has 12 Ncaa units already. Last year a unit was worth 339k. 6 yr. life span, so one unit is 2,033,000.

Remind me, do all units get equally split among the conference members? OR do teams who earn the units get a larger cut?

I think different conferences have different rules for how NCAA credits are split up.
It seems that when we first joined the BE, there were going to be a few years when we wouldn't get a full share.
That's probably over now; but I don't recall what the regular sharing formula is (or even if it was ever published).

The Big East does not split equally. The teams that win the units get a larger, but not the full amount, part of the share.
The reason I know this is not from a Xavier source, but my Villanova guy. He told me this years ago after Nova won the Natty and how much they received.
I am not knowing what the current % is
