Jason has been struggling for several months but showed some real mettle this week at Travelers. After a crappy start w/ three sixes in the first five holes and finishing w/ 3 more bad bogies, he posted 74 in round 1.

Dealing with weather delays in round 2, he fired 66, including birdie on his last hole to make the cut on the number; hopefully he posts a good weekend and jet starts the rest of his summer.

Also Andy Pope's 3 under was not good enough to make the cut on the Nationwide Wichita event whose 36 hole leader is St X & UC grad Jim Herman.

Jason will not be playing tomorrow. Since more than 78 people made the cut after round 2 they cut the field to 70 after today's round and Jason played poorly thus not making the cut for the final round. I believe this is the 2nd time that this has happened to him this year.

At least he made the cut and gets paid this week. Baby steps.

Jason is in the field at the Greenbriar this week with a star studded field......including that guy who wears red on Sunday.

Not a good day today for Jason. He bogeyed 4 of the last 5 holes to finish at +5.

Jason is struggling big time. 76 yesterday and hasn't played well at all since, really February.

Golf is witchcraft. Ben Curtis, former British Open Champ almost lost his tour card last year. This spring his old Kent State college coach Herb Pope suggested that Ben move his thumb over 1/4 inch to the top of the putter grip. Result? Curtis won the Valero Texas Open and won over $2.2 million in a four week stretch to secure his place on tour for the next two years.

That is why golf is so fascinating. Chumps become Champs and become Chumps again- almost on a weekly basis.

An even closer comparison is Ted Potter, jr. Like Jason Potter had 2 wins on Nationwide last year and earned his Tour card for this year. Until last week Potter had not earned $200
k---less than Jason-- and had missed cut after cut. Of course last week @ Greenbriar he catches fire and wins and has carried over to this week.

Jason playing in the True South Classic this weekend just made a nice Eagle on 18 to finish the round -6 and after 2 rounds is -9 and Tied for 10....third round will be getting started around 3:30

Jason's 74 in round 3 dropped him 35 places to T46; hopefully he can post a good score on Sunday and make some cash, find a bit more confidence for the remainder of the year. He will surely need a big turnaround as I do not believe he will qualify for Firestone, the
PGA, the Fedex playoffs so he faces a layoff to resurrect his game.

GoMuskies

I assume he'll play some Nationwide Tour events down the stretch.

joe titan
07-22-2012, 03:14 PM
maybe but I doubt his plans include Web.com events; they play in columbis next eweek and the Chiquita event is now in Charlotte which could appeal to Jason, but otherwise those events probably cannot hold his interest. The Fall series on tour is his best optin.

GoMuskies

During the playoffs last year the Tour guys who didn't make the playoffs flooded into the Nationwide Tour. Not sure why Jason wouldn't do the same this year.

Back to back cuts made by Jason! That's progress. 4 under and 7 shots back heading into the weekend. Hopefully he can go low this weekend and start making a run at that top 125 FedEx Cup number required to make the playoffs.

About $10k and another FedEx point for Jason after a tough weekend. He needs to do better in Tahoe this weekend. Time is running out to make the playoffs.

GoMuskies
08-02-2012, 08:47 PM
The modified Stableford System seems to shoot Jason's game. An even par round today managed to net him 3 points and 70th place in the standings after day one. Obviously straddling the cut line to start tomorrow.

GoMuskies
08-03-2012, 03:05 PM
By the thinnest of margins, Jason managed to stick around for the weekend. He birdied 18 to finish at 7, and the cut is currently at 6 (birdies are worth 2). He had it going on with three birdies on the front, but a double on 12 (-3) and a bogey on 16 (-1) just about sent him packing.

After a Top 50 finish at Reno-Tahoe, Kokrak sits at #175 in the FedEx Cup standings. Given that the Wyndham Championship is the final tournament of the regular season next week, I wouldn't expect him to advance to the Barclays this season.

GoMuskies
08-07-2012, 05:07 PM
He basically needs to win the Wyndham.

He's in 8th which (if you believe PGATour.com) would project to 160th in the FedEx points standings. I think he has to win this week to play next week. Very early, but he's right there. Why not?

After taking a closer look at the projections, second place would probably get it done for him as well, while winning would probably lock up a spot in the first two playoff events.

Think you have to be #125 to get into the Barclays next week.

In that case, let's not forget these immortal words:

"There are no points for 2nd place"

GoMuskies

Yes, 2nd would probably get him into the top 120. 1st would put him in the 60 range.

Sort of a disappointing 69 (take it easy) after being 3 under through 6 and shooting 32 on the front. He's going to need one great round and one very good round this weekend if he wants to think about the top 2 and playing next week.

In the tank so far on a weekend when the course is playing easy. Needs to turn it around and salvage the round.

GoMuskies
08-18-2012, 01:21 PM
Yeah, pretty serious collapse for Kokrak today after being 7 under for the tournament after the 6th hole yesterday. Oh, well, hopefully he'll have a good fall season.

Only birdie of the round was on the 18th hole. Managed to pull into a tie for worst round of the day at 77.

Finished with a 73 and will tie for second last. Still nice to grab a paycheck, I'm sure.

Because of the rain, the leaders didn't finish up until today in G-boro. Kokrak ended up winning a hair over $10k, bringing him up to $277k for the year so far. He'll need a good fall or Q-school to avoid the Nationwide Tour in 2013.

chico
08-21-2012, 03:20 PM
I hope he does well if he does go to Q-school, seeing as the Tour in its infinite wisdom will probably do away with it next year.

joe titan
08-21-2012, 09:34 PM
he will have 4 or 5 events to make about $500K more this year to sneak into the top 125; lots of pressure

the fact that he has made cuts and posted some better numbers recently is a sign of some improved play; see Ted Potter jr to illustrate how quickly a season can turnaround

Bad, bad weekend for our former Muskies. Neither made the cut.

Just goes to show, again, how golf is witchcraft. Last year Jason's hot, wins in Boise, gets to the Top 25 and earns his card. This year, he can't break par and is going to have to have one helluva run in the PGA Fall Series to stay on tour.

No one is a robot. This game is hard.

Jason and Andy are back at it Thursday in Charlotte at the Web.com's Chiquita Classic.

Jason started w/ 3 straight birdies so maybe he can go low and regain his confidence.

Finished at 6 under w/ 8 birdies & 2 bogies currently T1

After a couple of good rounds, J ended with a not so hot 73 and took home about $4,500 for the weekend.

He really needs a big fall season or it's back to the minor leagues. He's in the tourney in Las Vegas this week.

joe titan
10-12-2012, 08:45 AM
Jason playing the frys.com tournament and posts a quick double bogey 6 on his first hole, then plays the next 17 in 5 under; still a solid round 1; needs 3 more

Masterofreality

Through 7 holes, Jason's 2 under for the day and 5 under for the Tourney. Looks like even par will make the cut.

Man he needs an off the hook "go-low" round or two very badly.

finished today at 5 under and 8 under total, 6 shots off the lead

Masterofreality

A very tasty -5 for our boy J today.

That puts him right in the hunt at 8 under after two rounds at the Fry's.com Open in California.

This seems to be J's weekend to play well. Last year during his week, he won the Miccosukee Open in Miami that set up his Big Tour year.

Just watched Kokrak roll in an eagle on the par 4 17th. Tied for second place for now at 12 under, three back of Mallinger. According to PGATour.com, if they ended the tournament now, Kokrak would be up to #116 on the money list and in position to keep his card.

With today, he should be in the Top 150 for sure. That guarantees conditional status without qualifiers.

joe titan

check for $440K or slightly less than MOR's weekly allowance to move to 117 on $$$ list. He will still need to make another $50K to protect his position.

More importantly he went down the wire facing all kinds of pressure and came through. He needed a confidence boost and played very well for 4 days. Keep the ball rolling Jason, but next year, let's not wait so long.

Projected money list is here (http://www.pgatour.com/r/stats/current/money_projections-1.html).

Money falls off pretty quickly ... only about 15 golfers will earn more than $100K and make a sizable jump. Most of these will come from the already in the top 125 category. Jason may already have earned enough to be in next year's top 25. As mentioned above, a single top 30 or making both cuts would allow him to jump ahead of a couple of guys giving some security. Of course, better would be to win one of these last two events and not have to worry about the money list for a couple years.

GoMuskies
10-19-2012, 01:39 PM
Not a great day for Jason today (even par), but he should make the cut, which is all he really needs to do these last two events. A couple of nice rounds over the weekend to pad the money stats a bit would be nice.

Masterofreality
10-19-2012, 03:37 PM
Made the cut. In pretty good shape.

He's over 100k ahead of the guy in 125th spot. He'll cash a check this week and only one event to go. It would take a very unlikely miracle of an event chain to knock him out of the Top 125 now.

Jason started fast w/birdie on the first hole but could only par the next 17; he stands 6 shots behind at T44 with about half the precincts reporting. He is No. 115 on the money list currently and has secured his place for next year.

Congrats to Jason on wrapping up his first year on Tour at #115 on the money list. Hopefully he'll get it going a little earlier in 2013 than he did in 2012. Especially when you consider that the 2013 fall series events won't count towards the 2013 money list.
