My cousin was deployed to Afghanistan today along with his fellow Marines. He is a huge Xavier fan, and since he couldn't afford to attend X straight out of high school, he enlisted in the Marine Corps. so that he could use his GI Bill money to pay for X when he gets home. My husband was his Confirmation sponsor and we gave him nothing but X stuff for his room and he got to attend his first Crosstown Shootout with my hubby that year. We have all kinds of memories like that of him since he was only 10 when my husband and I started dating. It's hard to believe that he will now be carrying a gun and participating in a war.

In addition to being such a Xavier fan, he's an only child, and his mom and dad are beside themselves with worry. We're all extremely proud of him, obviously, but with all the craziness going on in Afghanistan right now, one can't help but worry about his safety and his well being both physically and mentally.

If you can, please keep him and his parents in your prayers. Also, please say some prayers for all of our brave men and women serving in all branches of the military, including xudash's nephew who is serving in Afghanistan as well with the Navy. We're all so blessed that there are men and women brave enough to serve and keep us safe.

I'll (finally) finish up by saying thank you to all of the veterans that are on this board. Your service and commitment to our country does not go without notice, and we are so thankful for your sacrifices and courage.

God Bless America!

Prayers offered.

While you're at it, please keep my nephew in mind. He's an Annapolis grad, serving a Navy Seabees assignment over there now.

Two of Kevin's angels have been on permanent duty in Afghanistan since 9/12/2001 and will remain so, in addition to the prayers we offer daily for all those brave young men and women, will add a specific request for him and his parents. :)

Done!

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me.

Amen.

Thank you all so much. We heard late last night that he made it over there, but he isn't sure when he'll be in contact again. Sort of nerve wracking for him to arrive the same day that the Taliban announces their "spring offensive". Still, we're keeping the faith!

Prayers.

On a side note, I know quite a few coworkers/friends (and even a few X grads) who have been deployed to Afghanistan, most on multiple times. Almost all were deployed to forward positions. All have come home safe and unharmed, so hopefully that gives you some little bit of comfort.

I HATE dayton.
