All I can say after last night is wow, and gross. Who all has been watching (I know XU95 has been). They kill off two major characters in back to back week, show gillian for the sociopath she is, show Nucky's continued grand delusion, and how Jimmy is their pawn. The VanAlden story line only gets better as it goes on. Thoughts?

Gross is right. It was hard to put that in words, but that fits.
The VanAlden stuff was a surprise. I didn't think he would react that way.
I have NO idea where this is headed.

I haven't seen last night's episode yet, but I love this show! It's smart television instead of crap like reality t.v. Now I can't wait to see it.

For some reason I just couldn't get into Boardwalk Empire. The idea is right up my alley but there is something I can't put my finger on that kept me from coming back after the first several episodes. Someday I think I'll give it another shot.

Maybe don't watch on a full stomach and have a trash can near by. Maybe one of the most disturbing scenes in television history.

Was uncomfortable watching last nights episode, which is what they were going for (that and an Emmy for best actor).
Everyone knew that that relationship had a "special" dynamic. They just confirmed it to a very painstaking detail.

I knew it was only a matter of time until we found that out. It was all just way too strange.
Love the show. HBO is simply the best when it comes to TV series.

Yea! That was disgusting and uncomfortable! In no way was I slightly aroused as I watched that scene! No way at all!
In all seriousness, that was fucked up. I also love the Van Alden story arch. You never know what is going to happen with this guy and that, to me, makes him one of the more enjoyable characters to follow on the show. He has been on one slow, steady, downward spiral. I want to see what he does next. I'm guessing it will be something fairly extreme as he happens to be bat-shit crazy.

No. His mom was 13 when she had him with the Commodore. She is one messed up character. Really good episode. A lot of interesting dynamics coming to a head. Too bad there is only one episode left.
God I love HBO programming.

Gotta give props to _LH. He knew about this George Remus character long before Boardwalk Empire. The guy has an some crazy stories. Had no idea the Great Gatsby was modeled after him. Also had no idea he gunned down his girlfriend in the Eden Park Gazebo 1 minute from my place

They took it down and used the gate for Western Hills High School or Elder. I can't remember which.
But basically he was a German Lawyer who got a license to sell medicinal alcohol. He would send his trucks out and have people rob his own trucks then collect the profit from the sales.
They said he would throw parties at his Price Hill home and give away free cars to everyone who attended. He had his own indoor pool and stuff too. Multi millionaire back then. Wouldn't be surprised if someone wrote a script about him for a motion picture

Ya I saw that too. Crazy. Didnt he kill his wife because she ran off with the law enforcement dude who was investigating him, who also stole all his money?

Ya I think it was some FBI guy investigating him. Don't know about the money. She was in a taxi and his Chauffeur followed her on Victory Parkway, ran the taxi off the road at Eden Park, and murdered her in that gazebo right off Victory Parkway where everyone always takes those wedding pictures.
They say he made $80 mil by 1924 from his prohibition scam

I have to say my one major criticism with Boardwalk was that they didn't kill off any major characters through one and a half seasons. How do you have a gangster show with no loss? Heck, the body count was higher during the first 1 1/2 of Lost than Boardwalk Empire.
They really hammered home the whole Oedipus thing eh? Kill your Dad, boink your mom? Not too subtle.
Expecting a lot from the season finale. With no Mad Men this season, the Emmy for best Drama is wide open.

Boardwalk Empire, at least to me, seems like it could be a lot better. I love the interaction with infamous historical figures (Al Capone, Lucky Luciano, Torrio, Rothstein, Lansky, Colosimo(early on), Remus, etc), but they seem to be barely in it now.
My go to shows are The Walking Dead and Dexter at the moment

Well, that was wildly disturbing, although not all that surprising based on things Gillian has said in previous episodes. Very gross though to actually have to see it. Blech. I just assume not have to see Gillian and Jimmy in the same scene ever again so as to not have to think about that.
I enjoy this show, but it does seem to be missing something. This season seems better than last season. I think what we have to remember is that at this point in our nation, the Mafia as we know it from The Godfather and The Sopranos didn't really exist. It was getting there and would take its roots in the St. Valentine's Day Massacre and once Capone takes over Chicago, but it wasn't quite as ruthless as that at the beginning of prohibition. I think now that cocaine has been introduced on Boardwalk, we'll see it get a little nastier.
Sundays nights are a good television night for me because I'm also really enjoying Hell on Wheels.

I guess I need to give Hell on Wheels a second look. It started slow for me, and I didn't watch past the first episode.
I have enjoyed Boss. I am not 100% sure what I think of it, but I like it.
You knew early that things were going to be strange when Jimmy's mom told his wife that she used to kiss his winkie when he was little. That is more than a little bit messed up.

The first episode of Hell on Wheels was pretty slow. It picked up in the second and third episodes. The fourth was sort of slow again. I haven't seen this week's episode yet.
We have Boss on the dvr, but haven't gotten around to watching it. I've heard good things, though. We also have Homeland (I think that's the name) with Claire Danes on the dvr, but haven't watched that yet either. Basically, we have a ton of stuff on the dvr and hardly have time to watch any of it.
I'm a firm believer that there is never a good time to have sex with your mother. Even if she is drunk.

Remus was an interesting guy. His wife ran off with an undercover agent who had befriended Remus in prison. I actually lived by that gazebo for a while.
It will be interesting to see is Joseph Kennedy figures into season three.

I don't like how the season ended. Best character is now gone. A big part of the show was based on him and now it's all gone. I don't want to spoil it for anyone who has it recorded, but i can't believe who nucky takes back.

Not sure where they are gonna go with the show. Not even gonna venture a guess.
I guess the coin did not flip in Darmody's favor. I didn't see the marriage coming. I thought Mrs. Schroeder was going to be sleeping with the fishes.

It seems like they spent the entire season around a major character in order to better understand them and justify a lot if their actions. I don't want to say it was a total waste of time, but why spend so much time and energy on developing someone just to kill them off? I hope they at least keep their sidekick on the show. Still in shock. There are some pretty good interviews out now to clarify some things and talk about next season.

It would be crazy if he killed both parents of the little kids. Especially now that he makes them call him dad. I wonder if he would help take care of them or if he would send them away?

Wow. Did not see that death coming. I was really thinking Eli was going to bite the bullet before season's end, but I guess blood is thicker than water.
I think Margaret's in for a tough haul next season. The maid is on to her and Owens and she's screwing around with Nucky's livelihood. No way that goes unpunished.
So, who goes for Nucky next? Rothstein? Luciano and Lansky? Torrio?

Just finished watching it, not sure what to think. I definitely enjoyed Darmondy the most so I'm upset to see him go. Anyone else think some weird relationshipis brewing with the mask guy and Jimmy's mom? I might be way off there. I also thought something might happen with him and Angela but it never did.
Worst thing about HBO shows is you have to wait soooo long for the next season.

They sort of took a page out of Game of Thrones with a major character biting the dust in a surprise move. I hope they continue the series. HBO does have a tendency to pull the plug on things between seasons. (Rome, Deadwood...) What will Nucky do when he finds out that he didn't make a killing on the land deal after all?
As for other series, season 3 of Justified starts on Jan. 17th.

I guess they could always do something stupid like say
"10 years later" at the beginning of the new season. It would be the easy way out but then at least you have a new main character with Jimmy's kid.

Classic dialogue.
Nucky: " Et tu, Eli"
Eli with puzzled look on his face
Nucky: " It's Shakespeare"
Eli: " They had a guy named Eli in Shakespeare? "

Ha, I thought the exact same thing. Was thinking maybe 15 but then I thought that might be to far out there. Although his mom did say to his kid, "You are going to be a very important man in this town" at the end.

This article says that next season will start 16 months ahead of where this season ended and that in the future the show is going to focus more on Al Capone who was based in Cicero, Illinois where Van Alden just moved.

Interesting. Thanks for the info. Didnt even think of them focusing on Capone. That could be good. Wonder whats to come of Van Alden? Hate that we have to wait so long.
If you watch the show again after Nucky shot Jimmy he looked at Eli and said "zip em up".
Nucky is so f'in gangsta.
xu95
I wasn't that surprised with how the season ended like some were. Nucky gets off his charges, shocker. Darmody gets blasted in the head. It was pretty clear throughout the season they were setting up a Darmody downfall. He was in over his head, showed weaknesses as a leader, and was mentally unstable. There's only one way that story can end.

I wasn't surprised Nucky avoided the trial. I am surprised that Nucky shot Jimmy. I saw Jimmy not surviving through all of next season, but I never thought Nucky would shoot Jimmy like that. Eli, yes, I saw Nucky taking him out (and I'd still be watching my back if I was him), but not Jimmy.

ZOMBIE BOARDWALK - You may be on to something. I will give the Natster a call and have her pitch it to HBO. The Feds figure out that you have to pour whiskey on them to kill them, which is the secret hidden reason that they repealed the liquor ban amendment.

Good episode. The Van Alden arc keeps getting better and now looking he might join up with Dean Obanyon. Nucky appears to have learned a lesson and is isolating himself, Gillian continues to get crazier and crazier. Now using Harrow as her pawn, only a matter of time before she bangs him.
I imagine a lot dealing with Capine coming to power and look for Remus to get indicted this year.
