I saw this map of the world at a Cincinnati Public School. It is at a school called the Cincinnati College Preparatory Academy, which is a school for predominately young black American children.

This map was huge. The building is really nice and it has these wide staircases. This was on a landing. It had to be over 10 feet wide. I had to stand back up quite a few stairs just to take the pic with my cell phone.

What a huge World Map! It is even labeled "The World" in the lower right hand corner. It is nice to have a public space in a school big enough to have a world map that can show everything.

The thing is, I think that they missed something.

Meh. All of the maps and history I grew up learning from were centered on my culture and my ancestors' history. I really don't have a problem with anyone choosing to focus their view of "The World" on a part of the world that focuses on their history.

Frankly, I find it very interesting to look at the world from a different point of view.

That would be fine. But much of North and Soutn America don't appear at all in that map.

For some reason that map reminds me of this scene from The West Wing.

Hey kids, point out where you live on the world map! Where would they point to? We aren't there. We are off the map. Next time you hear about a survey with dumb as rock American kids unable to find things on a map, think of this map. They aren't on this map.

And that is by design. It isn't just what you stress, it is what you leave out and omit as well. This map is political. It didn't happen by accident. This isn't a hand painted custom map either. Which means to me that they are selling this map for schools. If you look at the legend, it is written in English. This is probably marketed for urban black schools all over our great nation. I doubt this is the only map of it's kind, or that this is the only school. Hey, the next big thing!

Symbols matter, that is what the leftist Ed School racket teaches. One of the reasons that they keep having new math books out is because they keep needing to rework some minority group into the word problems to better embrace diversity. Johnny has three apples, his life partner has four. How many apples does they loving couple have? You should check out the "Pedagogy of the Oppressed" and some of the crap they shovel at teaching seminars. The Ed School racket is just that, and with the government monopoly in education every teacher even in private school has had to sit through the same bowl of shyt. To these people every symbol means something, so this map is no accident. It is another excersize in "critical thinking".

And we wonder why the schools are failing.

It looks like the legend is cut-off in the bottom right corner. Although this map is definitely centered on Asia and Africa (Europe is just along for the ride), I think it is more likely that they had the map and couldn't fit it in the space, so they trimmed the sides. And voila! A map missing the majority of the Americas.

I'm not saying it is right, or smart. Because the map is clearly wrong, and it is stupid that a map of our planet that has never been correct in any era of history is in a school. There would be a greater benefit to have a map of Middle Earth posted than this thing. I just don't buy the conspiracy theory that a map omitting the Americas is being mass produced.

I'm hoping this in an exceprt from those big wallpaper world maps. Yes they have wallpaper size maps for schools and the like. Maybe other parts of this map are in other parts of the school?

Here, this looks familiar: World Map Mural (http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&q=world+map+wall+mural&gs_upl=0l0l1l1771l0l0l0l0l0l0l0l0ll0l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&biw=1280&bih=574&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=9831221487856756170&sa=X&ei=BHTMTq3WIsTdgQfG-ojJDQ&ved=0CJEBEPMCMAA)

MOR: I have been to four of the Irish cities pointed out on that map.

I think that is the exact map. The legend looks about right. Looks like they bought it and then cut out North America. Granted, they couldn't fit that whole map in the space, but they could have bought a smaller map. It seems an odd choice.

I think I may buy that map. I have a wall for it for the kids. That is a fantastic price. That is cool.

I think Coaster found the map below. The legend crimping you talked about shows up on that map in the same place on the globe, but more centered on the map.

It appears to me that they bought that map, cut out most of North America and spliced the two ends together to make a new map. Now that I know where they spliced it I will check it out next time I see it. My kid plays basketball there. So you are indeed right that they aren't mass producing maps that omit America. This map was specifically altered to take America out. That is an odd choice to make.

Then again, maybe they just don't like Mexicans. I wouldn't blame them there, nothing pushes up the black unemployment rate like more Mexicans. The "jobs that Americans won't do" used to be done by Americans, and many of those were black Americans. In California the majority of hate crimes are latino against black. Blacks have even fled Compton if you can believe that. With all the psycho-babble plattitudes we espouse about race we rarely get into the nuts and bolts of the boots (and the blood) on the ground. So maybe they were just sticking it to the usurping dominant minority. I wouldn't mind taking Mexico off my map too.

"Mexico, so far from God, so close to the United States"

I bought these maps (http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/united-states-and-world-2-wall-map-set-staff-of-american-map-corporation/1005424762?ean=9780841621701) for my boys. The quality may not be as high, but they love them, and they're much less expensive.

Snipe, I have never taught anywhere where the school was worried about getting books with more minority names in them. We buy books over and over due to changing legislation that changes our standards, and we need books that align to the standards. I have never seen anybody I work with try to distort reality for some greater lesson. I work in struggling schools, and we bust our balls to get the kids through.

I have to tell you, the TEACHERS I work with, could give a flying Bob Huggins about minority sympathy. ALL we care about is getting kids to the next grade. Now, there are special ed. situations that enrage me, but in the end, there is no propaganda from the 'foot soldiers'. We just want the kids to EARN promotion.

Elected officials in education, now that is where the BS comes from.

And Snipe, anywhere I have worked at we have had messed up stuff like that. The teachers will walk by, point at it, say what the fuck?, move on knowing the fight would take too much energy, and it would be an inside joke for the rest of that staff's tenure.

Would you believe that Africa is 14 times larger than Greenland? (That's from the West Wing clip)

And Google just provided me with a sweet new website to waste time with: http://mapfight.appspot.com/africa-vs-gl

I saw this map of the United States at a Cincinnati Area Publicly Traded Company. It is at an office called the treasury department, which is an office for predominately tracking and allocating corporate funds.

This map was medium sized. The building is really bland and it has these large blank drywall walls. This was on a wall. It had to be over 4 feet wide. I had to zoom in slightly just to take the pic with my cell phone.

What a medium United States Map! It is even labeled "United States" in the lower right hand corner. It is nice to have a wall space in an office big enough to have a United States map that can show everything.

The thing is, they put Alaska south of California. I think this is part of some conspiracy to convince Alaskan school children that it is actually warm there, and that the thing in their back yard isn't a pipeline, it's a sea lion. Also this map includes parts of Mexico and Canada. Oh the horror! Can you imagine when some corporate type incorrectly wires funds to Toronto and selects "domestic wire" because of this map?

And where the f**k are Guam and Puerto Rico? They are part of the United States. It's an anti-Guamian conspiracy I tells ya.

Did American Samoa and the US Virgin Islands gain independence recently? They're part of the Empire as well, last I checked.
