Brief recap of game as Muskies drop to 0-3 for the season:
Xavier won toss and eleected to receive. Xavier fumble deep in X territory leads to SIUE score. PAT good, SIUE up 7-0. After kick, X offense stalls and punt gives SIUE ball in X terrotory. SIUE score (blocked PAT) pads lead to 13-0 with barely four minutes gone in first quarter. X offense again sputter (starting QB soph Ted Popaliski playing sporadically on badly sprained ankle and newcomer #22 (didn't catch name) mixed signal calling duties). SIUE again gets ball inside X forty but Muskie senior Wyatt Link returns SIUE fumble over 60 yards for TD cutting score 13-6.

In second quarter, SIUE scored again but the PAT was blocked giving the Cougars a 19-6 lead. Xavier scores Two TD's including a pass from Popaliski to frosh Phillip Neely good for some 45+ yards (video avail at Xavier football Facebook page/You-Tube). Muskies led 20-19 at half.
After SIUE received the XU second half kickoff, the Muskie defense held. However, Popaliski's ankle injury prevented him from returning and Xavier relied on the new Qb who showed signs of speed and arm strength but the offense couldn't get much going,. Towards the end of the 3rd quarter with X ahead 20-19, the Muskies operated from their own 11yard line but a fumble gace SIUE a frist down on X's 10. The Muskie defense held to force the Cougars into a 3rd and 10 but SIUE's QB snuck into the end zone. The PAT was blocked and SIUE led 25-20.
This score proved too much for X. Popaliski's injury essentially took away X's passing game. The new QB showed good running ability and arm strength but inexperience proved to be an obstacle not only for him but as well as the rest of the team which features a roster that is nearly half freshmen. The remainder of the game saw the offense sputter and SIUE scored the remaining points with a plays that included some remarkable receptions.
SIUE had a definite size advantage as the young Muskies tend to be small. Seniors Andrew Bodziony (DB), Eric Miles (DB), John Deters (WR). Wyatt Link (LB), Nick Sexton (WR), Scott McClaughlin (TE/DL), Logan O'Sicky (OL), Scott Manze (K/P) and Kyle Foster (DL) continue to provide leadership to the team; and while the Muskies lost, the team has made great strides since the opening game.
