Since this guy's from the 'nati, what say you resident scouts?

ESPN seems to like him a lot. I guess they haven't updated the list yet because he's a 94, which would put him well within the top 100, but he's not. Rivals will also likely put him in their top 150 when they update. It seems like he's a guy that's trending up right now, so I like the kid from what I've heard/seen.

I don't think people are arguing with you, but if DSR isn't committing, and he strings us along forever and then commits to somewhere like Georgetown or Texas, we are screwed. I think Christon is an excellent alternative with good upside. That doesn't mean I wouldn't love to have DSR.

One thing is certain: he will be visiting Illinois before he makes a final choice.

“Just to see what the campus look like,” Christon said. ”I’ve never been to Chicago, and I’ve always wanted to see what it looks like.”

Yeah those aren't in Chicago. As a matter of fact it's like over an hour drive to Chicago. That's like saying UK is in Cincinnati. Get my drift?

Why not get Semaj and DSR? Semaj will be a BEAST point guard considering his athletic ability and outside shot. Xavier has never had a point guard quite like Semaj (he will make X miss Tu a little bit less when he graduates). However, we should also go for DSR because he has a chance to be the best player on the team once Tu graduates, he is that much of an impact freshman.

Sounds great but we would then have to come up with two scholarships for them.

One must wonder if Jalen Reynolds will have any impact on this kid's choice of college since they'll both play at Brewster this coming season. If DSR goes elsewhere, Jalen could convince Semaj to play at Xavier (simply through example, of course!).

He's obviously a great athlete. Didn't you read the ESPN bio: "Christon is a long lean point guard that is not only a good athlete but is very athletic."

That's Pulitzer Prize winning material right there, folks. ESPN doesn't call themselves the World Wide Leader for nothin!

I am really high on this kid (on life, not drugs kids). Can't believe how well this Summer is playing out. We're stacked this year and it is an absolute reloading for the coming year.

Welcome aboard Semaj. Anyone think he'll be rooming with our former recruit (soon to be renewed LOI) at prep school?

I think his game will resemble Rajon Rondo more. Great at getting to the rim with a developing jumpshot. So excited to see him and Dez Wells on the floor together. This is a great time for Xavier, we have never had so many high-level high-talent athletes especially in the backcourt.

BTW at the end of the video you can see Chris Mack in the background sitting down.

Good stuff:

"When looking at the top 25, the player who made the biggest rise up the charts was Semaj Christon. Now reaching five-star status, Christon is an athletic 6-foot-2 point guard who has led Wolfeboro (NH) Brewster Academy to an undefeated season so far.

Christon, who is headed to Xavier next year, translated his strong summer on the AAU circuit to the prep school ranks seamlessly with his combination of size, passing ability, athleticism, and elite speed baseline-to-baseline. "

Shows some respect for where X is as a program as well. Can't think of a recruit that went up that much after choosing X. I thin Wells went up a littl eand he had some good pub but tradiitonally they always drop a few rungs after saying they are heade to a "lesser" school like X.

Not to be a negative-nancy, but does going to prep school show that a player's overall upside is limited? Is he #23 among college-freshmen-to-be next year? That would make sense that he rose -- he's a year older than a good portion of others on the list.

Edit: of course, there's an advantage to teams like XU going after older players -- they're more developed, more mature.

From 10/13 in the DSR thread:

Honestly, I'm happier to have Semaj in the fold than I was to have DSR. Don't get me wrong, I would have gladly taken DSR at X and think he would have had a very good career. But Semaj seems to have a more athletic game and could have a greater upside. DSR looks like his game is primarily based on strength and that might even out over a college career.

Ok, so I really didn't know anything. I was just basing it off things I read and videos I've seen. But I really was, and still am, happier to have Semaj instead of DSR.

4. Semaj Christon
School: Wolfeboro (N.H.) Brewster Prep
The Buzz: A native of Cincinnati, the Xavier-bound Christon has been outstanding during his post grad year. He has great size, tremendous speed, should be a good defender and puts pressure on the defense with his ability to make plays off of the dribble

Mickey Mantle on Pete Rose: "If I had played my career hitting singles like Pete, I'd wear a dress."

For the life of me I cannot understand how anybody can claim that Pete Rose was the best hitter ever (not that you were saying that paulxu). He made a lot of contact and played until he was 50...that will get you a lot of hits. But these numbers don't scream, "BEST HITTER EVER!":

CAREER: .303 AVG, .375 OBP, .409 SLG, 160 Home Runs

162-GM AVG: .303 AVG, .375 OBP, .409 SLG, 98 runs, 34 2B, 6 3B, 7 HR, 60 RBI

Make no mistake, Rose was a very good hitter. But best ever? Not. Even. Close.

Being that I put a Mantle quote in there, I'll give you his 162-GM AVG for the sake of comparison:

.298 AVG, .421 OBP, .577 SLG, 113 runs, 23 2B, 5 3B, 36 HR, 102 RBI

Couldn't agree more. Most at bats of all time makes it a bit easier to get the most hits. Similar to people calling Nolan Ryan the best pitcher of all-time. The guy has the most K's....and the most walks. Longevity does not equal greatness.
Please don't get me started on Terry Bradshaw and the "greatness" his performances reveal.

Davis is such a great shooter from deep that people miss how important his versatility is to his team. Christon and McGary were huge late in the game, with Christon's dribble driving was aggressive yet efficient.

That creeps me out when white old guys do that.

Seriously though I am waiting...their seems to be a dent in the armor and because of all of the negative press and lack of handshakes, recruiting is really going to falloff.

I try not to get too wrapped up in what are highlight videos against sometimes less than stellar opposition (was that the Andy Griffith All-stars I saw?), but this kid looks to be something special. Tight handle, hesitation out the wazoo, excellent ups and length for a 6'2 guard, and what impressed me the most was how quick and effortless his shot was. Not Antoine Walker "I'm too lazy to extend my arms much or jump on my jump shot" effortless, but quick and easily repeatable, even off the dribble.

I'd love to see a report on his D or at least his abilities and willingness to defend at the next level, but when you see that type of skill....it's hard not to project him right into the starting line-up next year. He'll be 19 going on 20 and as long as he buys in on defense, I don't see what stops him.

It's good to be King, now let's go hand some payback to the neon highlighters. Smell the Glove!

I totally get what you are saying, but at least 4 or 5 of those highlights are against Tilton (NH) a nationally ranked team with the uber-prospect Nerlens Noel on it. In fact, one of those highlights is Semaj taking it at Nerlens and then shooting over him.

The rest of the teams, no clue could be Andy Griffith All-Stars.

I made the highlight tape for Semaj GREAT KID what i can tell you about the league he plays in is that its the best league in the country EASY. The clip where he dunked on the white kid... that kid has a D1 scholarship and atleast 4 other d1 players on his team. Semaj appears to have long arms, similar to those of J. Reynolds. That allows him to dunk the ball with relatively little effort. He appears confident and has good moves. Chances are he will be able to contribute significantly to the team in his first year here. I am excited with the anticipation of seeing the trio of Semaj, Reynolds and Wells playing together.

This guy is going to open up a lot of things next year.

I never like to say this, but he looks ready to play right away offensively.

I'm sure he'll struggle defensively a little bit early on.

Lets not discount how well Dee Davis has played the last 4-5 games.

He's going to get some minutes next year also.

We still need a JUCO or transfer big man in a bad, bad way.

If Mack could make that happen, we could be ok next year hoping Philmore, Reynolds and Farr bring something to the table.

"Eventually in the month of July, Christon and his mother told the third party to take a hike and cut him out of the mix. Eventually Christon would decide to stay home and commit to Xavier, a decision his former advisor was upset with, but one his mother wanted."

I haven't, and I'm sure most are atrociously bad. That fact does not stop my eyes from bleeding when reading Snow's work.

From this particular article:

"at the end of the day" = 7 matches

"however" = 9 matches (first word of the sentence = 5 matches)

"Now" = 14 matches (first word of the sentence = 8 matches)

"Still" to start a sentence = 5 matches (followed by "at the end of the day" = 3 matches)

Starting a sentence with "The" = 3 matches

Yep, he hasn't really learned about word repetition. The one originally quoted was the worst. I did a double-take reading it, confused because I thought I may have just imagined reading "eventually" to begin consecutive sentences. I didn't imagine it; he really left it like that.

Bad writing is a pet peeve of mine. Not on a message board, or social media, or any other medium where it's become acceptable, but for "journalists." Snow definitely has good information and clearly has great sources, but he is way too shamelessly awful at writing. It's embarrassing. His job involves writing, and not in a small way. It's one thing for me to finish this post without proofreading, which I will, but it's a completely different thing to submit an article without doing so. If he is actually reading what he writes before submitting it, then he's just not very educated. If expecting a little more professionalism out of someone who many of us pay is wrong, then so be it.

Xavier PG Semaj Christon
Particulars: 6-3/170, Fr.; 4-star prospect from Wolfeboro (N.H.) Brewster Academy
Buzz: Christon is a Cincinnati native who will be returning to his hometown to play college ball. Xavier needs a new point guard, and Christon should be that guy. He is a good ballhandler with excellent quickness and has the potential to be a top-flight defender. His height is a positive, and once he adds a few pounds and some strength, he'll be even more of a handful for opposing point men. Xavier lost its top three scorers, and Christon needs to provide a steady hand immediately if Xavier is to make it back to the NCAAs for the eighth season in a row and the 12th time in 13 seasons.
