Today I found something I have been looking for since I attended X 16 years ago.

http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/218191_1983408430444_1400240978_32300916_240203_n. jpg

I had an X bike jersey when I raced for X back when I was in school, but had to turn it back in. That's when I tried to find a jersey. No one made one. Year after year after year, month after month, I tried to find someone who made it, with no luck. No store, no internet site, no manufacturer. I looked into getting one made myself, but between trademarks and cost, it couldn't get done. It drove me crazy to walk into a store, see a UC, OSU, even a Louisville jersey, but not X. Then I walked into Montgomery Cyclery today, and there it was. Xmas day for me. Sorry, I'm totally geeked about this jersey.

Yet it's not my most cherished Xavier item. That goes to my signed basketball from Skip Prosser to my firehouse and my company.

I HATE dayton.

I'm a cyclist too, and now I want that. Montgomery Cyclery, you say? Sounds like I need to make a trip to Cincinnati.

Quite a few things to choose from. However, I think my most prized piece of Xavier clothing is my 2008 Pig Roast t-shirt. My roommates and I brought back this tradition from its 2 year hiatus and the t-shirt brings back fond memories. I know it's not X basketball or sports related but it is hands down my favorite X related shirt. Good times and good memories. Picture to follow later.

I own that shirt as well. Great times.

Can't beat that but I do have a prized Xavier possession. It is the backboard of a Xavier Basketball mini-hoop signed by #32 Jim Renforth and manager extraordinaire Pat Harvey.

Of course, it's also signed by the rest of the 89-90 team. Tyrone Hill, Derek Strong, Aaron Williams, Jamal Walker, Michael Davenport, Jamie Gladden, Bob Koester, Dwayne Wilson, Dave Minor, Colin Parker, Maurice Brantley (Moe #34), Pete Gillen, Dino Gaudio, Mike Moses, and 3 other names I can't make out.

It was hanging in Zip's for several years and got extremely greasy. I tested whether or not cleaning it would ruin the signatures of everyone by doing a test on Harvey's name. It didn't fade or wipe away so I sprayed the whole board. Everyone else's name was affected, so I stopped cleaning it. It is now blue and yellowish tan.

For several years I had a pair of Michael Davenport-(or maybe Colin Parker)-worn practice shorts that somehow fit me even though I am only 5'6". They eventually fell apart, but I was living the Drudy-dream for a while.

That would be the Lionel Chalmers/Sato happy birthday autograph to my son named after them. (Lionel Romain).

Second would be the chunk of Brick I hammered off the corner of the Gardens after X waxed St. Joes in our last game there.

3rd would be pieces of my hotel room door from Xavier's 1st Elite 8 in Atlanta. You can ask Brew about that.

It's my picture of stophorseabuse in Atlanta, not long after he had created pieces of a previously one piece door. In the picture, he is clearly declaring me #1.

The first thing that comes to mind would be the 4 tickets I have from the four wins in four days from a few years ago. Brings back great memories. Each night my group of 4 went out to eat at a different place, then went down to the game, sat in the same seats each night and watch X win. Greatest four days of my life.

I have a plastic Coke cup that says "Coach Prosser" on it that Snipe and I were able to get from the bench when Xavier still played at the Gardens.

I think the A-Train helped us out with that.

My Dad's tiny gold-plated football with a blue Xavier X on it circa 1924. It goes to my son when I die.
I had a sideline 3/4 length Xavier football jacket worn by the teams before 1973. Ray Baldwin, God rest, gave it to me when he was throwing out a bunch of stuff, shortly before he left the university. I wore it for years in the worst of winters and never was cold. When my wife was working at Our Daily Bread soup kitchen on Logan street near Findlay Market, she mentioned one of her people (the homeless and desperately poor) needed a warm coat. Since I had a bunch of newer coats accumulated over the years, I gave her the sideline coat. Two weeks later the cops found the homeless guy in a doorway frozen to death. The X coat, pajamas, his underwear and socks were all he had on. I like to think it kept him warm for a while.

I have an old school Xavier lacrosse jersey as well.

It's up there with my signed, framed poster for Sean Miller's last team. Everyone signed it except for Kenny and CJ. One day I'll get Kenny to autograph it, but it's sweet to have Brown's signature on the thing. (Crawford isn't featured on the poster, as he was sitting out and his picture is not shown.)

Signed Skip Prosser ball and the "David West Player of the Year" mini poster that they handed out during his Sr. season. He signed if for me "To Smails, GO XAVIER!! David West #30"

Seriously,

One of two things. 1) My commerative T-Shirt and Ticket stubs from the Opening Game at Cintas Center. Or 2) The cardboard "X" that we held up in the Xavier section in Atlanta at the Elite 8 in 2004 that was has an autographed message from the one and only Byron Larkin. Muskieman and I sat with him and Joe watching the Duke game after Xavier had beaten Texas and Byron was gracious enough to give me a cherished momento.

This deserves huge reps. Giving the homeless man a truly priceless and irreplaceable item like that coat is just awesome.

Heh. I have that somewhere as well. Didn't someone get yelled at for handing us those?

I have two full team autographed balls that were gifts from a relative that lived next to Tom Compton. I have a Romain Sato autographed T-Shirt that I wore in Atlanta. I have two autographed Skip Prosser crosstown shootout balls.

One of the weirder things that I kept is a Kahns inflatable #1 finger that was a giveaway back at the Gardens.

Both football related:

Plastic football I caught at Nippert stadium in 1966 with Xavier v. Cincinnati on it.

Piece of paper with Dan Abramowicz and Carroll Williams' autographs that they signed at Schmidt Fieldhouse during a basketball game.

I'd have to say it's my "letterman's blanket", not sure what else to call it. Don't know if they still do it, but when I was at X, if you lettered all four years in a sport, your fourth year you got a dark blue wool blanket with a white X on it. The other years you got the traditional white X to go on the traditional letterman's jacket, even though they didn't have the jackets.

Outside of a couple of nice pictures of campus my parents gave me it would have to be my Burrell's Brew Crew shirt. Or the Blue Blob shirt that they gave out for a random game.

Haha, so true. Though, mine was truly classic. We're talking old school, #99 (I was supposed to have a new uniform at the time, #24...but some douchebag upperclassman who was also new to the team took it and wouldn't give it back). It's all gray with blue letters and the MESH body.

I take it back. My most prized possession is your sister's friendship. BOOM ROASTED!

Exactly.

I still have my dark navy blue "letterman's blanket" as well. I lent it to Musketette Daughter when she was at X as a dorm room decoration. I don't know if she ever put it up. I thought it might be "old school cool". She never told me whether or not those at XU 35 years later thought the same as me.

I also still have my dark navy blue "letterman's sweater". I'm not sure what year they stopped giving those out, but have two other "X" letters that remain loose and homeless.
