I am going to take my three girls (8,8 and 6) to Mammoth Caves next week for spring break and would like to know if anyone has any recommendations for cave tours.
I thought about the Grand avenue tour but it's over four miles long. Can a six year old do this?
Any tips would be appreciated.

We used to go there a lot when I was a kid. I had younger brothers and sisters and I don't remember any tour every being too long or strenuous for kids. 4 miles sounds pretty long, but they go at a very slow pace if I recall correctly. Still might be best to start with a shorter tour, particularly if they have never been in a cave before.

It's been years, but from what I remember of the Grand Avenue tour, it was a pretty straight-forward/easy path through the cave. I suggest running your daughter through a rigorous gauntlet to test her stamina and appraise her ability to walk the tour.

Why renew the discussion of Lh's old girlfriends?

Buy your tickets early. Tours WILL sell out. One tour in the morning and one in the afternoon works out preety good.
A long sleeve shirt usually does the trick. Doesn't hurt to have a sweat shirt tied around your waste if you need more clothing.
You should probably be more worried about yourself than the kids. haha

History tour is nice and easy and fairly short.
Frozen Niagara tour has short, but LOTS of steps on a stairwell.
BOTH of these will work for a energetic kid.
Someone said it, BUY YOUR TICKETS EARLY. Tours sell out or you may end up waiting for one that's hours into the future.
Here's their website.
