Gotta love Calhoun.

I want to feel bad for Miles, but for some reason I stop just short.

How he isn't mentioned in the same breath as Calipari amazes me

Wasn't Miles at least briefly a Xavier verbal?

The bit about the whole "forced intercourse" and retraining order seemed a bit glossed over to me.

Yes, he had a verbal commitment to Xavier his sophomore year.

Calhoun is as dirty as they come and it still amazes me that he not only gets off scott free, but with his rep untarnished as well.

It's a good article, but like DC said, I find it hard to feel sorry for Miles. The kid was set up by Uconn- given money from an outside "booster" that they could easily sever ties with, but he knew what he was a part of was wrong. He is just as greedy and guilty as the rest of them.

Yea, for as big of a piece of shit Calhoun and some of these other UConn guys around him are, the article fails to mention that Miles was routinely getting in trouble at school, suspended, flunking everything, and all around just a clown off the court. He was a kid and may have been able to turn it around in a better situation, but the article only mentions in one sentence something along the lines of, "He's no angel." Miles' stupidity played a large role in his downfall too.

I also agree that Calhoun should be right there at the top with people who are slime in college hoops. The guy won two national titles being a slimeball and yet flies under the radar in the world of slimeballs. Call me a conspirator, but coaching the university of the state that ESPN is based out of in the conference that ESPN is in bed with may have something to do with that. The guy is a disrtbag.

I fully agree with this. It's amazing that this guy was actually caught cheating, and we barely hear about it.

And what school does he coach for? Right near Bristol Connecticut who has a 4 letter network with a vested interest in having the league that the school that this guy coaches for be percieved as the best and clean.

Amazing how some things are swept under the rug when it has to do with the Big Least and B-Espn.

ESPN investigates a lot of things, but when it comes to the B-E and the SEC, there is an awful lot of turning of heads. Just leave it to Fox Sports, Yahoo Sports (Dan Wetzel) or Sports Illustrated/SI.com.

PMI,

Amen, bro!

HC Calhoun is sleazy as hell!!!

Gotta believe that we'll see his ugly mug on the "Mothership" once he retires.

Per Katz/ESPN....

Who should succeed Jim Calhoun?

I agree, and honestly I am sick of ESPN. They push their agenda in everything they do. All of their shows, first take, sportscenter, PTI, they all push for the ESPN agenda. I suppose I can understand it, but it gets real old, real quick. In fact, I actually prefer to watch Foxsports' version of sportscenter. Just a bunch of highlights, rather than a few highlights and over analyzing.

If Nate Miles was tossed aside so was Dedrick Finn.

How so? Finn was kicked off the team for breaking team rules in his senior season with only about 5 games to go. He still graduated with a degree. It's not like he was left out on a street corner

Especially since Miller was talking about all the time they tried to work with Finn. Sounds like they had a lot of patience with him.

This can't be good for UCONN. How does Jim Calcheat keep his job and keep working under the NCAA watch?

Cash payments and help cheating on the SAT. Nice. I'm sure they will just lose another scholarship and a $10,000 fine and Morehead will be banned from next years tourney. Pathetic.

I completely agree. I wish they would give The Final Score an entire hour. So sick and tired of breaking something down for 20 minutes. Write an article. If I respect your opinion I will read it.

Let's see what happens after this.

After reading all of this background, I sort of feel sorry for Miles because he had no guidance in any form from any parental authority figure. He, however, had obviously little moral compass either.

But the statement "UCon(n) was the only school to take the extra step to get me cleared" (academically) is damning. Of course, they were the only school to do that- because it was patently illegal. Nobody else was going to send people down to take the tests or help on the SAT's because it was patently illegal. Maybe no one at UCon(n) knew about the money, but someone had to know about the test taking- just like Calamari had to know about Derrick Rose.

Nate Miles Statement

I'm not sure who else received this, but it was sent to me a couple hours before tonight's national title game from Nate Miles:

``This is Nate Miles. I want to wish Kemba and UConn the best of luck this evening. I wish I was there. Recently, several articles have come out about my time in college. Though there are some inaccuracies in the articles written, I am not backing off what I said. Talking about it publicly for the first time has made me realize some important things. These articles do not accurately portray my true feelings. I am frustrated by my current situation. What I didn’t do is explain how I have to take charge of my life. It is up to me. Mistakes were made by many. I made the most. It is time for me to step up and take charge of my own life and stop talking about history and the various mistakes that I made and that others made.''

Meaning someone said here is a little cash no go away and get on with your life. Maybe you can go play in Europe or something.

Per Andy K/ESPN.......

Former UConn player Nate Miles, who told The New York Times that he was willing to talk to the NCAA while telling the Times and Slam Magazine that coach Jim Calhoun knew more than was said during the NCAA investigation about improper benefits, has blown off the NCAA and other forms of electronic communication. An NCAA official told ESPN.com that an investigator went to Toledo, Ohio, Miles' hometown, to meet with him just prior to The New York Times story coming out two weeks ago. But Miles never showed up. The investigator then talked to Miles on the phone when a friend of Miles' picked up the call. Miles didn't want to speak with the investigator then, either. So any attempt to get further information from Miles, open a new investigation or even deem whether he's credible, is indefinitely on hold.
