I have a feeling it is going to be a hard fought contest in front of a bunch of crazy fans. This game is no gimmie.

The key is how well Jamel Maclean can defend Andrew Nicholson. He's their head. Cut it off, it rolls, and we ride. He's not a threat from deep- only 3 3's made out of 15 attempted. He's all about close in.

Their point guard Adegboye plays as many minutes as Tu, so those guys will see each other all night, unless Cheeks switches off on him.

They have nobody to match up with the KING.

The only thing I fear, is what I fear every game. That the other team will come out and stand on their collective heads as to shooting like Miami did. The dump did, and we beat 'em anyway.

While I can't say tfor sure that Olean Welding has had their "game where everything goes right", there are two candidates- The St. Johns game where they made 82% of their free throws and the Charlotte game where they hit almost 50% of their shots from the field.

I'm not worried about a Xavier letdown. This team is focused on the conference.

LET'S ROLL THIS F-ing LEAGUE!!

No apparent statute of limitations on welding jokes. I prefer the cookie incident with Temple myself.

Dayton was complicit in the SBU meltdown way back when. UD's AD pressed to move and take away senior night and the Bonaventure players walked. It made a bad situation worse and it brought shame on SBU and the conference. I don't think he was implicated in the scandal. Dayton needed to win that game because they were in the race with Xavier for the title. They used that moment to kick SBU when they were down and took away senior night. The Bona players called Bullsht and they walked.

What would have been a rare violation for a program became a national story and it was all because of Dayton's blood lust for a title by any means necessary.

But they already had the pre season title for that year, right?

I think this Xavier team will be up to it. This team knows that they go into every game with a numbers disadvantage and has to play to their maximum ability to win. They will lose a few games when they are shooting poorly or overmatched, but, not because they let up or think they can coast. I think the key to the Xavier men's success this year is for Jackson to get his shooting touch back and for the girls team it is to get Rutan untracked.

Not so much in this one. Olean plays their guys about as many minutes as XU does- like I said , point guard Adegboye is averaging 40.7 minutes a game this year.

Our guys have a bunker mentality - just like the Masterofreality who will be firmly enschonched in his seat near the XU bench Wednesday night.

What was virtually incomprehensible after the Bellarmine scrimmage, now is in clear view.

Back then, even if you had not put any weight on Jordon jumping to the NBA, the injuries and paperwork snafu were enough to put some doubt into the back of any avid Xavier fan's mind. A combination of sloppy play and the idea that, superstitiously or not, we may have been witnessing a string of bad luck, created a lot of angst around here, and justifiably so.

Not now.

We have a long way to go, including the Olean contest, but this is a team we can believe in. If they maintain their focus and intensity we're going to be all right; we're going to make it back to the Dance.

I can only hope Chris Mack wants for nothing more than a long career on Victory Parkway. He's certainly earning one this year.

This would be the definition of a trap if everybody this year did not know to not take a damned thing for granted. This game against a Nicholson-led resurgent SBU team is by far not a gimmie.

This is where Mack's coaching style pays off - focus on what is immediately in front of you. Our guys do not look ahead - only to the next 4 minutes of the game.

I can't rep, but this is superb analysis.

I agree 100%. Rather than taking the overwhelming long view of things, all this coaching staff does is break down things to the lowest denominator- the next 4 minutes. That way no body gets ahead of themselves, and nobody thinks of having to play 40 minutes, just the 4 minutes ahead.

Like my old High School Golf coach used to say- just concentrate on the next shot, then count 'em up at the end.

So, we win these 4 minutes, then the next 4 minutes, then the next 4....and count 'em up at the end.

I understand the next 4 minutes approach but I am still scared of this one. It is a classic trap game. An emotional, highly focused victory over an arch-rival and perhaps the biggest A-10 game of the year coming up. And in between you have to go to Olean, NY to play a weaker, yet improving opponent in their gym.

We need to stay focused!

For as well as Xavier has played over 3 games, this is still the team that lost to Bellarmine, went to the wire against Western Michigan, needed overtime against IPFW, needed triple overtime against Wofford, laid an egg at Miami, and got trounced by UC a mere 12 days ago. I do not think the coaching staff will allow anyone to overlook any opponent. Feel free to call it a trap, but we do not have the luxury for that element of overlooking to even exist.

Exactly. I'm pretty certain Mack has reminders of those games fresh in the players' minds this week as well. There is no room to let up.

And just because some of us think it's a down year doesn't mean the Bonnies will be anything but ramped up for this one. If anything, they see it as their last best chance for a while to knock us off. All the more reason not to look past it.

What no mention the Bonnies' coaching staff filled w/ XU blood and pile on top of that a key player in Davenport who was not good enough for his hometown team. Oh yea, SBU coming out of very tough loss to Rhode when they blew a sizable lead.

No need to focus on this game, a real gimme.

Not sure a gimmee, but Bonnie's not only blew a sizable lead, they sucked. had a 5 point lead at 55-50 with 2:30 to go. Not a single thing they did in that span worked, turnovers, bad clock management, bad shot selection, shit defense, just plain bad. final score Rhody 56-55.

Davenport had 28 of Bonnies 55.

Ok,

I've loaded the sleigh and am about to start the trek through freezing rain, sleet, snow and every other winter hazard to reach the Gawd forsaken wilderness that is Olean.

Damn that place is in the middle of nowhere.

They know how to make strong welds there, though. They have to with this weather.

I've arrived behind enemy lines.

Cold, Gray, Snow. The conditions that exist in Olean from September to June.

There are two seasons- Winter and Pre-Winter.

Been here before, but this campus is spread out and non-descript. Very 1950's. The Reilly Center is too, except that they put a small new facade on it.

They have to recruit either Canadian players or get someone to come on July 4th week. Any other time and it's hopeless.

Must sign off now before the local Gestapo discovers my pirate internet signal.

This is the first win by the Bonnies over Dayton since that fateful day. My blood still boils that Bonnie STUDENTS (who had nothing to do with the scandal) were booed during the A-10 Tournament up in Dayton that year. The following year, Xavier fans give Marques Green a standing ovation after the Muskie's warmup game against the Bonnies in the 2004 A-10 Tournament.

No. The fact that St. Bonaventure chose to forfeit a game- especially to the dump, will never go away.
