I had been kind of curious about the overall records of all the teams in the A10 since Xavier joined. Maybe some of you know a single source for that info, but I couldn't find it. However it was easy enough to look up in a few places and compile it. I had to dig around in some old media guides to fill in some of the old records, but here is what I found.

X joined the A10 for the '95-'96 season and has completed 12 full seasons thru last season. I wanted to compare X to all the other teams to see how the numbers shook out. In Xavier's first 5 years in the A10, Virginia Tech was also in the league. VTech's record during those 5 years was 40-40. Xavier's record during that span was 53-27.

Charlotte and St. Louis have completed two full seasons in the A10. In those two years, Xavier has a record of 21-11. This surpasses the records of SLU and Charlotte, which were both 18-14 over the past two years.

Richmond has completed six seasons in the league. Their record in that span has been 48-48, while X was 70-26 during that same span.

The other teams in the league have all been in it for the duration of Xavier's presence in the league. I didn't bother including the records from this year, but with X at the top again it is pretty obvious that the lead has grown. Here is how the records break down over that period of time.

Team W-L %
Xavier 135-57 .703
Temple 130-62 .677
St. Joe's 123-69 .641
GW 120-72 .625
UMass 112-79 .586
Dayton 107-84 .560
Rhode I. 89-103 .464
St. Bona 68-122 .358
LaSalle 64-128 .333
Fordham 56-136 .292
Duquesne 46-146 .240

I kind of figured X would be first on this list, but I had never seen the numbers before. I dind't bother to include conference tournament records, but I'm guessing X is pretty near that top of that list too. Maybe Temple has an edge in conference tourney wins to offset the 5 more wins that X has since X has been in the league. I didn't really feel like digging that deep. Anyway, I thought I'd post the numbers in case anyone else in curious to see the breakdown.

I can't imagine anybody having more conference tourney wins, since X has won the tourney 4 times in 12 years (two of those times winning 4 games).

Since XU has joined the A10 the Tourney winners are these teams:

XU- 4
Temple- 2
GW- 2
Dayton- 1
St. Joes- 1
UMASS- 1
URI- 1

XU won two of those by winning 4 games, so I am also betting that XU has the most tourney wins since joining the league, but I couldnt find anything that broke down the tournament anymore than the winners, so I cant be sure.

I figured X had the lead in that too, but I didn't have the numbers in front of me. The numbers show what we pretty much already knew, which is that since X joined the A10 Xavier has been the best team.

We passed Temple last year. I was sure to remind it to Temple fans.

I got a bad reception. Screw them.

We are the Flagship of this conference. The class of the league. Over time it can not be disputed.

I don't think we were in the leage with VaTech for five years. I think it was two or three years at most.

VTech was in the A10 with X for 5 years (1995-1996 thru 1999-2000) which were also Xavier's first 5 years in the A10.

Great stuff XU Fan.

It always make me think I'd rather be the top dog in the A-10 then the middle dog of the Big East. I like being a leader rather then a follower.

I think, over time, we would also dominate the Big East, so I say join the Big East and see what happens. Maybe we could swap places with Seton Hall. Didn't Fogelson want a bus league?

Being the leader in the A10 seems to be working well in terms of getting into the NCAA tournament. How many NCAAs have the bottom feeders of the BCS conferences been to in the last 10-15 years? Not many. I'd rather see X in a better conference, but I don't see it happening any time soon. Of course the league could improve, but I'll have to see it for a stretch of years before I am convinced. At least this season Duquesne is finally making up for an eternity of suckage. Someone needs to get that memo to LaSalle and Bonaventure.

I think the A-10 is a good league. We need a better television deal, sure, but overall I think we are past the huge coaching carousel we experienced a few years ago. Heck some of the league has decided it needed Xavier blood in their veins. So Xavier is doing all the work itself by giving of it's resources to make the league better.

That's what you expect of your flagship.
